  1. [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/999630321955098624[/tweet] Casey Mize is #1, my boy (Carter Stewart) is #2 on his big board, Bohm is ranked #5, India is ranked #9, Bart is ranked #10, and Rocker is all the way down at #29. The big board goes to 100 so if you guys want to know where Law has someone ranked let me know. It's very different from other lists I've seen, but it's a solid ranking of the draft prospects.
  2. So let's say Baltimore were to take most/all of Heyward's contract (and his weak pop outs to the SS behind 3B)....how much more in layer compensation would the Cubs need to come up with? For instance, if Addy, Monty and Alzolay is a huge overpay straight up...is it a huge overpay if they took all/most of Heyward's contract with those three? And would that make Machado as a rental much more appealing knowing it frees up tons of years/cash, most likely for Harper? I'm not relly good with the contract/$$$ stuff. Thoughts? Guys, I want Heyward gone just as much as everyone else (if not more), but he has a no-trade clause in his contract. I believe after this season it becomes a limited NTC so the window to trade him opens up this offseason. I don't think there is any possible way to get Heyward to waive his NTC to go to horsefeathering Baltimore of all places... Sorry about killing the dream.
  3. [tweet] [/tweet] Great throw by Schwarbs. Amazing tag by Baez. Great exchange in comments lol: [tweet]https://twitter.com/LuvTheCubs44/status/999444558701150209[/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  4. [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/999055172117647360[/tweet] I'm reading a bunch of tweets about college pitchers throwing a ton of pitches on short rest. Not cool...
  5. Huh, former Cubs player and PED user Marlon Byrd claims he used PEDs once on purpose and once by accident. Interesting... [tweet] [/tweet]
  6. Man, I have to take comfort in reading the minor league recaps cause right now the big league team sucks. Oh hey, Bote hit another HR today. Amaya too. Nice...
  7. I’d venture to guess the guy running all this is plenty confident. I can’t imagine he’s all that happy about the execution and Javy’s bunt tonight though. Confident, but not calm. No way stuff hasn't been broken. Theo is older and wiser so no horsefeathers is broken. This is how he probably feels though:
  8. I just saw this on the @BestFansStLouis twitter account: [tweet]https://twitter.com/TedJohnson18/status/999070809149919233[/tweet] Where to begin...
  9. We better enjoy this gift while we still can. So at this rate he probably gets DFA sometime in June. Enjoy this fellow Cubs fans. PS -- Also, the Cards lost a draft pick for signing him lol.
  10. Yeah Machado at SS scares me, defensively. He’s been awful there. It’s also more likely Russell does something on defense in the playoffs that Machado just can’t do that helps us win than it is Machado is “that” much better of a hitter vs Russell in the playoffs. To be fair, it is possible that Machado is indeed that much better of a hitter over Russell to swing a short series (which could mean the difference between moving on or going home in the playoffs).
  11. So Justin Wilson has no value to Baltimore -- I know that. It would have to be some three-team trade where Justin Wilson goes to Team C and they send a couple prospects to Baltimore. You're not getting a whole lot for Wilson right now. I think we have the pitching prospects to get a deal done. Most of them have been disappointing, but that doesn't mean they don't have value. I go back and forth on my willingness to trade Addison right now. He's very valuable and has a high upside. Do I think he'll reach his ceiling with the bat? No, but I never thought he'd be this valuable on defense when he was in the minors either. Machado is better at 3B long-term so I'm not sure about his fit on this team. Right now, the defensive metrics say Machado is pretty bad at SS. Do you want to trade defense for offense? Maybe, but I'm also not sure if Machado can keep up this level of offense going forward. This might be his career best season.
  12. You're all wrong... There is nothing worse than being someone's (John) Lackey.
  13. Theo is very smart, but he's also a risk-taker. I'm sure he's thinking about some way to fleece Baltimore again lol. Oh for sure. He's going to be in on Machado, as he should be. But I know he won't do anything as stupid as Baez or Russell + Monty for a rental. Yeah, I'm okay with giving up Monty + Justin Wilson + Bote + pitching prospects or some combination of that right now, but definitely not Baez + Monty or Russell + Monty. I'd also definitely want Britton or Givens coming back. I really like Mychal Givens and I'm surprised more people don't mention him here. He produced 2.3 bWAR last year and I think he's capable of being a high-leverage reliever/Closer.
  14. Theo is very smart, but he's also a risk-taker. I'm sure he's thinking about some way to fleece Baltimore again lol.
  15. They aren't trading us Machado (and Britton and IFA money) for Caratini, Bote, minor league pitching fodder, and some other minor prospects. Sorry, but he's going to get a better return than JD Martinez got last year. Baltimore does seem like a pretty dumb organization so they might prioritize big-league ready prospects like Bote over better prospects that are further away.
  16. I know I shouldn't want this, but I really want a ball to be hit right back up the middle and hit him square in the face. The Cubs better tee off tonight against Curt Schilling 2.0... I know other MLB pitchers also support Trump, but he's the only one brazen enough to flaunt his politics and worldview and wonder why people dislike him.
  17. It's not a terrible mock draft (it's good), but I'd rather take every prospect selected after the Cubs pick in this mock over Greyson Jenista. That list includes: Steele Walker, Brice Turang, Mason Denaburg, Cole Winn, Xavier Edwards, and Connor Scott. He's a good athlete, but there are questions about his bat. Most scouting reports say he'll have to move to a COF spot, but has a chance to stick in CF. He's already really big at 6'4" and 240 lbs. so my gut is telling me he moves over to a corner outfield spot. I like Greyson Jenista, but there will be other players available I like more. He did hit really well in the Cape Cod League last year albeit with no power. I feel like he'll go somewhere in the second round. https://theathletic.com/363388/2018/05/22/2018-mlb-mock-draft-casey-mize-goes-no-1-but-who-will-follow/
  18. During the Ohtani stuff, in which they were the one team who didn't do a bid/pitch, didn't they have some ridiculous comments come out about how they avoid international FA because reasons that were really stupid? Maybe they won't value that money at all. Also, could you just "buy" the money? Like could we just cut them a check for a few million for their IFA money? They seem like a team who might value real cash over prospects. I'm almost positive I read somewhere in the CBA that you can not trade IFA money straight up for cash. Everytime it's been traded it's for a prospect or part of a larger trade. I don't think we have to give up a top-10 prospect, but a decent one(s) will have to be sacrificed to obtain additional funds. I bet Baltimore will include that money to get better returns in trades for Machado, Britton, Brach, et al.
  19. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] Check out that clip above. I'm very intrigued by what I've read and I hope the Cubs haven't promised away all their cap space for international FAs. I'm sure they could trade for some more from some crappy team like Baltimore or Miami that doesn't use it.
  20. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] Can we put an end to this 'Pee on your hands to toughen them up' non-sense? Moises Alou, what hath you wrought upon the baseball world...
  21. They’re a ~.500 team getting their hot streak out of the way early. They’re due for regression like the D’backs are on right now. Now maybe they’ve banked enough wins to get lucky and finish around 90 or more wins but I’d still bet on that water finding it’s level and them finishing low-mid 80s wins. Depends on if they make a big trade at the trade deadline. I think they'll finish low-mid 80s in terms of wins, but a trade for a good starter could lead to a few more wins.
  22. [tweet]https://twitter.com/laurencomitor/status/998668328288903169[/tweet] I don't like the bad haircut. I'm kinda digging the tiger cardigan he's wearing -- should be wearing a cubs and/or bears cardigan if he really wants to send a signal about coming here. I'm even more perplexed about making a trade for him now.
  23. Damn, I was just about to make this joke (new market inefficiency and all). Well done. I'll be going now...
  24. Good book on the subject. Yeah, I've heard of the book. I'll try checking it out and I bet one of my friends already has it. Sounds interesting for sure. Thanks
