  1. Apparently, he throws a lot of sinkers. Not sure what his GB% is, but he should have a high K/9 with how hard he throws. His breaking ball (I believe it's a slider) isn't that great and his command is probably a 40 or 45. They definitely rushed him up to the big leagues before he was ready.
  2. Why is the old guy wearing a MAGA hat to an NBA playoff game? This isn't an NFL game and you're definitely in enemy territory. horsefeathers that old guy. I would "accidentally" spill a drink on him if I were a fan nearby and if I was a Cavs player I would "accidentally" sling a no-look pass his direction that I hope hits him in the face. I probably have some anger issues I need to address also...
  3. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] So for the younger people here MLB used to conduct the draft in a really stupid way (way behind the other sports). They used to send a letter announcing you were selected in the MLB draft, but not tell you which round or the pick. It was really stupid and agents/journalists had to work really hard to figure out the order. I remember learning about this concept in an economics class a long time ago. It's called information asymmetry -- where one party in a transaction or system has access to more information than the other party leading to an advantage. I'm probably not explaining the concept that well, but I'm pretty sure that is what MLB was trying to do. Great way of marketing your draft MLB execs by keeping everyone in the dark including the fans and the players selected.
  4. So that Greg Holland late addition has been something else... His stat line: 12 1/3 innings, 14 H, 14 BB/9 K, 0 Saves/2 Blown Saves, 2.27 WHIP and a 7.31 ERA! Great signing so far.
  5. Good start for Q. He looked better today. Sucks we had a split today, but Game 2 was fun at least.
  6. [tweet] [/tweet] His curveball is pretty sick. It's one of the best ones in the draft IMO. Not sure if he can develop into a starter long-term and the injury concerns are a problem. I would take Cate if he were still available at 62.
  7. Idk what to make of this enigma Think how awesome he would be if he wasn't striking out all the time.
  8. Or if some of these rumors are true you could be trading up for Bagley, which would be cool too. I'm the high guy on Bagley here. I think he'll end up being the best player from this draft, but I'm not going to lie -- if he ends up going to Sacramento I doubt that happens. Young drafted players go to die there lol. Their system sucks and players rarely develop there for whatever reason. I pray Doncic doesn't end up going there. I'd be pretty content to trade up to 4 if Memphis wants to move down. I feel like Dallas will take either Bagley or Bamba at 5. Not sure what Memphis would demand for the Bulls to move up. Memphis does owe a future 1st round pick to Boston.
  9. [tweet] [/tweet] We've already mentioned this before, but it seems like Murray is not going to be drafted this year. More likely in 2019 when his situation is more clear. You don't want to be the scouting director that recommends drafting him with a high pick if he decides to stick to football and enter the NFL draft. I think he's better at baseball and the articles I've read mention how most scouts think he's better at baseball. I have no idea which sport he enjoys the most or prefers (assuming he's good at both of them). I haven't come across an article that states his preference or if someone has asked him.
  10. I know he hasn't pitched that much at AAA, but his ERA is 5.40 at that level lol. His ERA with the Royals is a ghastly 21.86!!! Have fun pitching in Korea next year.
  11. https://www.mlb.com/news/high-school-pitchers-rise-in-mlb-mock-draft/c-277173920 This mock has the Cubs taking LHP Ryan Rolison. Lots of prospect analysts are saying Casey Mize is not a slam-dunk to go #1 anymore which is surprising. I still think he goes #1. I think this mock draft is pretty good overall.
  12. There's no value in that 22nd pick, it might get them to 6 at best. They'd have to include an unconditional #1 next year to get into top 4 range. Yeah, the 22nd pick doesn't have that much value. I don't think the pick for next year's draft would have to be unconditional to move up. You could probably put some limited protection on it, but all teams know the Bulls will probably be better next year so that pick would most likely fall somewhere in the 10-15 range. The package would have to be this year's pick + next year's pick (limited protection) + probably B. Portis + maybe a 2nd round pick down the road. It would hurt to move up.
  13. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23533496/michael-porter-jr-says-best-player-nba-draft-injury-plagued-season-missouri-tigers Well, he certainly doesn't lack in confidence. I get why players say this and have this mentality, but it would be refreshing to hear a young player say he is among the best players in a draft without having to triumphantly say he is the best player. You look dumb when you can't or don't back up your words -- looking at you Lonzo Ball (and his dad).
  14. This is less directed at you individually since lots of people do this, but what's the basis for saying that Naylor is or isn't going to stick at catcher? A few sentences from other articles? A youtube clip or two? I don't want to be a gatekeeper but I also don't think there's much to any of our prognostications about the development of high school draftees other than pure guesswork. I have one former scout friend. I ask him questions and he talks to other scouts. Have not asked about Noah Naylor specifically. So for Noah Naylor it's both reading scouting reports and watching video on youtube. He isn't terrible as a C, but there was something I didn't like when I was watching him... Probably receiving or pitch framing (which you can improve at). His arm is very good and probably rates as above-average. I remember he made a good play in the 2017 Perfect Game Classic at Petco Park with J.T. Ginn (who I like) pitching. He nails the basestealer at 3B for the last out of the inning. J.T. Ginn didn't have great control or command that day so it probably was hard catching/receiving and making it look good. [bbvideo=853,480] [/bbvideo] I just don't like HS catchers unless they're really special and scouts say they can definitely stick at catcher. There have been so many disappointments among HS catching prospects that I have a bias against them. Watching video again and he actually looks pretty good defensively. I was wrong and should revise my statement. He probably has a good chance at sticking at C, but that doesn't guarantee he'll stay there. 15. In regards to Keith Law's mock draft 2.0 I don't like Noah Naylor. I don't think he sticks at C. I don't know where he plays honestly. Maybe at 3B? He's a very divisive player like Law said. I haven't heard anything bad makeup-wise and you shouldn't judge him based on the behavior of his brother. He's an okay hitter, but I'd rather target someone else at #24. I'm going back and looking at it, and Law doesn't have any team selecting Larnach in the 1st round. I'd rather select Larnach over Naylor.
  16. Duquette is an idiot. No one really cares about the old-school Triple Crown title anymore. RBIs don't matter and teams know it's a pretty useless stat. The Orioles will trade Machado -- I guarantee it. I just don't know when they'll pull the trigger. You think they'd get a larger return if they traded him earlier. I bet they trade him close to the trade deadline in July. I'm going to say he gets traded to Washington. I think Daniel Murphy moves over to 1B and Trea Turner slides over to 2B. I could see the Dodgers trading for him too if they don't completely fall apart.
  17. [tweet] [/tweet] This article is similar to the one posted in BaseballAmerica. I don't do Hot Takes, but here is one I guess: Why the Cubs are targeting Hitting Prospects in this year's draft? Well, it's because the Cubs organization sucks at drafting and developing pitchers right now. Their philosophy of acquiring arms through FA and in trades is working fine so far. We can argue about the results and needing more time to evaluate these drafts under McLeod, but I think frankly they've failed at drafting pitching prospects. Sure, some of them have reached the big leagues like Paul Blackburn and Pierce Johnson, but we haven't developed an impact pitcher from the draft. This is a failure on the part of the scouting department/player development side IMO.
  18. So at our pick (#24) I just don't think there will be a college bat that's better than the other prospects available at that point. India is too high now, and I don't like Eierman or Hoerner that much. Larnach will probably be selected before their pick too. I think the clear strength of this draft is pitching so you have to take advantage of that. I want them to target a good high school bat as well, but get away from taking the great athlete/raw baseball skills type player. Well yeah, I'm not taking a guy just to mark off my list. That IS my preference, no matter where we pick in ANY draft. In this one, I hate saying pitching looks to be where the strength is, where we're at, but it likely is..... But, if any of Scott, Turang, or Larnach are available at 24, I'm taking them. And I'm not opposed to taking Walker, Hannah, or Groshans either. Although I'd want a discount on Walker or Hanna, to throw at a pitcher next round. If we're going after a hitter I want Jordan Groshans. I really like him and I've watched a lot of video of him now. I've read some comps comparing him to Carter Kieboom. He's a prospect with no standout tool but no glaring weakness with the potential to get stronger and hit 20+ HRs down the road. That's who I want, but I know there are pitching prospects with higher ceilings who will probably be available. Larnach is my favorite college hitter that might be available when the Cubs pick in the 1st round.
  19. i wonder if corey patterson turns out any differently with 2018 cubs level minor league player development vs the disaster that the organization was 20 years ago, which was still a relative disaster compared to the rest of the league Definitely and to a lesser degree even Vitters (if the hand eye coordination stuff was true). I think Vitters busts no matter what. This Cubs FO had the chance to work with him and see if they could unlock some hidden potential. I mean Vitters is struggling in Independent League baseball so I think his skills eroded and that no one could fix him/properly develop him. I think if Theo and Jed were here for the 2007 MLB draft I have zero doubt in my mind we avoid Vitters and take Matt Wieters.
  20. I like Porter, but we need to be careful about drafting players with back issues. I'm sure the Bulls will do a full physical and MRI on him. I want to avoid drafting a player who is chronically injured. Porter has a high ceiling, but he also has a low floor (could bust). We all remember how much potential Jabari Parker had, and injuries have taken their toll on him. He's not the same player anymore and that's why Milwaukee will let him walk. I am worried about Porter's health and slightly above-average athleticism.
  22. I want either Michael Porter Jr. or Mikal Bridges. No thanks on taking Bamba or Trae Young. Please stay away from Wendell Carter and other crappy Duke players GarPax. There's only one good Duke player in this draft (Bagley) and we ain't getting him.
  23. I believe there are a limited # of free articles you can read each month because every time I click on the link it says I need to sign in. I was able to read it on my smartphone. So it seems like McLeod is admitting there was a mandate to target pitching in last year's draft (which we can all see). I don't like that approach and believe in a BPA (best player available) philosophy for most of the draft. I agree on taking advanced hitting prospects at the top of the draft. I don't know exactly what the Cubs will do in this upcoming draft, but I hope they target the right hitting prospects this time. Please no more Jacob Hannemanns and D.J. Wilsons...
  24. Can you sum up the article for ppl who don't have a subscription? They're targeting position players for the first four picks we have or balancing it between pitching and hitting? I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs decided to target young position players w/ high ceilings because right now we suck at finding/developing pitching prospects selected in the MLB draft.
