  1. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1002282434564624392[/tweet] Indeed. Pitching prospects will break your heart. I'm still not over Mark Prior breaking down. He should've won multiple Cy Youngs...
  2. [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1002145864989757442[/tweet] This mock just came out and I'm really happy with the selection for the Cubs in this one: I really like Groshans and I've mentioned him a few times. If we're taking a prep hitter this is one of the better ones IMO. Some prominent names are missing from this mock draft because it only goes to 30. Law claims some teams with multiple picks (Rays and Royals) after the first will be paying overslot for those guys.
  3. If you guys aren't keeping up with this story right now twitter is going wild over #BryanColangelo #BurnerAccount. So many great tweets lol. Too many... [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  4. I heard Lange is working on his changeup. I figure his strikeout rate would be higher if he was throwing his CB more often. Does anyone know what range his fastball is at these days? Fastball command and improving his changeup are the goals this season for Lange.
  5. Yeah, I know it's been super long since Javy walked. I almost feel like he has a bet going on in the clubhouse with teammates...
  6. Yeah, a lot of good content in there. I didn't want to post everything draft related in the chat, but I'll post a few here:
  7. Deleted. What did it say? I can see the tweet. It's in Banedon's post above. Both KB and Harper appear to be big Golden Knights fans.
  8. Damn, that story is pretty embarrassing. Those Twitter accounts all have to belong to Colangelo right?
  9. I fixed your post. I’m guessing draft pick trades are going to be on the table for the next CBA negotiation unless it’s a nasty fight and they don’t have time for that type of stuff. It felt like introducing trading competitive balance picks was the first step. Yeah, I hope it's on the table for the next CBA negotiation, but I feel like the next one is going to be really contentious with a possible lockout/strike situation happening. The Player's Union is really upset over what happened this past offseason. I can see other issues (like trading draft picks) getting pushed back or placed on the back burner. MLB moves at such a glacial pace when it comes to changing important parts of the game like the amateur draft. Teams being allowed to trade competitive balance picks was an important first step, but we might be stuck at this step for a long time...
  10. He moved back in the box again. Keep him there and we’re looking at a .780 OPS. Somehow. We're getting excited about a .780 OPS level of performance now?
  11. umm..May Oh dang... His numbers in May have been pretty good. Didn't realize he was so bad in April lol. Well, I think he'll be even better in June!
  12. Good job Rizzo! I think Rizzo is about to break out offensively.
  13. I like how you started off somewhat serious and then went full meatball/hater on Heyward. Your suggestion is a bit much... I just want him to change professions and become the world's greatest motivational speaker.
  14. [tweet] [/tweet] Good listen for people who are unfamiliar with this draft class and really like Jim Callis. He starts by saying how this draft class was really talented going into the year and had a chance to match the 2011 draft class, but now says it's not quite that talented. Callis says this draft has great depth, but very little consensus and separation among prospects after Casey Mize.
  15. Not happy when draft prospects do this, but whatever. If he really wants to go to college and be overworked his junior year and throw 120+ pitches on short rest then I wish him all the best...
  16. The slide is several things, unnecessary, probably against the rules, and should be against the rules, but the contact itself wasn’t dangerous or malicious. The view from the 3rd base dugout can be misleading because Rizzo actually pulls his left leg back to avoid hitting Diaz high. Worst case scenario the collision of Rizzo’s legs to ground forced that motion which wasn’t hitting DIaz high and wasn’t dangerous. I concur with this take. I definitely think the slide was unnecessary, but he accomplished what he was trying to do -- break up the double-play -- without hurting the catcher. The slide was in no way dirty, and Rizzo is NOT a dirty player. I think Rizzo is well-regarded among his peers. I wish Rizzo just avoided him, but there is no reason to be upset with what he did. It wasn't a dirty play and I hope he doesn't get hit in retaliation. Another pic of the slide: This kind of slide should be against the rules though because a player with bad intentions could inflict real damage on the catcher.
  17. https://mobile.twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1000404850755153920 Typing on my cellphone so the post isn't working quite right... Anyway, the Tigers really seem like they want to take a hitter with the #1 pick, but Casey Mize is the best prospect in this draft class. It would totally make sense for them to trade down and acquire additional assets if MLB allowed full trading of draft picks like in other professional sports. It's so frustrating that the Cubs can't move or down to get the guy they really want in the draft. Hopefully, they change this soon or in the next CBA.
  18. Yeah, same here. Of those 5 players you listed I'm highest on Groshans and Larnach. I really like Groshans and think he might not even be there at 24. I'm pretty sure Larnach will be available, but I don't know how much of a discount we can get for him. Maybe 200K if he signs for around a ~$2 mil signing bonus?
  19. Good tweets by Keith Law: [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1000040754973216768[/tweet] [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1000041059341230080[/tweet] [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1000041394319306752[/tweet]
  20. http://www.espn.com/nba/insider/story/_/id/23581610/is-luka-doncic-top-three-2018-nba-draft-pick This is a good article on ESPN about why Doncic might be falling in the draft. It's pretty speculative, but they mention how bad he's looked at times in recent games. Their lead draft analyst (Jonathan Givony) is still really high on him and thinks he should go #1. I have my doubts and would take Ayton and Bagley over him right now. His contract status could play a factor in where he gets drafted. He could potentially delay his NBA arrival by honoring his current contract with Real Madrid and come over in 3 years, similar to Mirotic. This could be a ploy by Doncic and his agent to get him to fall to an ideal team/market in the draft.
  21. Oh for sure. His stats are very impressive and I like his swing actually. It's just you're not getting any value on defense from him so the bat has to be pretty special. It might be too soon but I brought up if there were any bat only college guys this year for a future Rizzo replacement (maybe that’s too soon) earlier in the thread and Beer was brought up and I like what I saw when I did a little digging. I know bro -- I was the one that mentioned Seth Beer to you lol. Yeah, he's definitely intriguing but we don't need to worry about a Rizzo replacement already. Rizzo will bounce back and I think he'll be good for many years to come.
  22. He is indeed considered a 1B/DH only type player. He played RF his freshman year and seemed okay to me on video, but reports say he was pretty bad out there. Some scouting reports don't like his swing and worry about how he'll perform with a wooden bat. I don't have a strong opinion on him, but his performance and production are undeniable. He might go at the end of the 1st round or right after the 1st round. Thanks for the responses. I won't pretend to scout the stat line, but the stat line is something. Oh for sure. His stats are very impressive and I like his swing actually. It's just you're not getting any value on defense from him so the bat has to be pretty special.
  23. Surprised no one has used this gif yet. It's horsefeathering perfect:
