  1. I think they should shift Lacy to the bullpen. I've been watching him pitch and he's not overpowering, but he gets a lot of groundballs with his delivery and movement. I think he'll eventually settle there anyway, but might as well make the move now. I want to keep Rucker in the starting rotation for now.
  2. This seems like good logic, but pending Roederer's deal, it's fallacious. *DAvis basically signed for slot. They didn't need Richan to underslot to help there. *Unless Roederer gets significantly more than Davis did, he could have been covered by the the 5% overage. *And if they did want to pay Roederer significantly more than Davis, they still have freed up several hundred K more with 8-10 senior signs. Conclusion: Richan pick did NOT need to be sub-slotted in order to sign Davis and Roederer. Well, we won't really know until Roederer signs. I mean I don't understand why the Cubs would take Richan there and get him to sign an underslot deal if they never planned to use those savings or if they had enough to sign the Davis/Roederer duo. Maybe they intended to draft another prep player in a later round and use those savings on him? I don't really understand their strategy... I thought Davis was getting an overslot deal, but it looks like he's only signing slightly above slot value. Still hate the pick, but whatever.
  3. Just cause he agreed to an underslot bonus doesn't make it "okay". The Cubs liked Davis and Roederer and knew they needed some savings from an underslot signing to be able to afford those two players. Richan was listed very low on national rankings lists and I bet the Cubs didn't have him that highly ranked either -- they just needed someone they liked to agree to an underslot bonus. I hate the pick and think he'll barely register on our Top 30 prospect rankings, if he ever makes it on there. I hated the Zastryzny pick also. I didn't like the Stinnett selection at the time. I liked the Pierce Johnson selection, but he didn't amount to much... Cubs need to do better and they've admitted as much.
  4. Welcome to the Board! Big fan of your twitter account! Thanks for making a post and I agree that there is nothing wrong with liking a prospect and being wrong about it. I was just talking about accountability and being self-aware lol. We've all liked some prospect at some point that ended up being a huge disappointment.
  5. You know we don't make enough posts about how awesome Rizzo is. Great play tonight: [tweet] [/tweet]
  6. [tweet]https://twitter.com/kellyawallace/status/1009266423896657920[/tweet] It sure is lol.
  7. [tweet] [/tweet] =D> :D =D> Wow, I didn't realize he's pitched this well...
  8. That is bloody excellent lol. Well done!
  9. :flythew: Cubs Win!!! I can live with a split I guess.
  10. Man, I was hoping Hill would develop some blister problem again knocking him out of the game thus forcing him to piss on his hands. Oh well...
  11. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bulls/history-teams-moving-top-5-nba-draft-and-what-it-might-cost-bulls Good article. I agree with the logic in the article and I'm an advocate of the "moving up" strategy in this draft. I already mentioned doing that a few months ago and I'm totally okay with giving up next year's draft pick (while putting Top-3 protection on it) because I think next year's draft class is terrible in terms of talent and upside. My favorite prospect is still Bagley, but I also like MPJ and I go back-and-forth on Bamba. So Ayton is going #1, but after that I have no clue what will happen. If the Bulls have the opportunity to move up I think they should do it.
  12. Well no, Kellogg and Twomey were really well known HS recruits that never got better but I thought they would in the pros. That's different. This is more the Cubs have drafted seemingly random college arms before with big holes in their profile somewhere or another and were given the benefit of the doubt on upside potential development ceiling. I don't see why Richan doesn't get the same when his flaws mostly seem aesthetic. Listen, we all appreciate your enthusiasm for all things Cubs related, but you do tend to weigh in on a favorite player or draft prospect or recent IFA signing and talk about why they are your current favorite... Then you change your mind or in many instances you're just wrong and you just move on. I've only been on this forum for like 2 years now and I've seen you make many weird predictions and proclamations. I mean you were all in on Kumar Rocker, and every team passed on him and he's going to college. He might develop into a top prospect in a few years, but he might also regress or get hurt. I doubt you'll mention your love and conviction on Rocker if he ends up not living up to the hype. I'm OWNING what I said whether I'm wrong or right... I said drafting Brennen Davis was a mistake and that I really dislike this draft class (outside of Nico) overall. I will either be right or wrong in a few years, and I'll fully admit if I'm wrong on Davis or Roederer or if some later selections end up being successful draft picks. You don't build credibility and trust when you just make a bunch of claims and quickly move on or never mention them again when you're wrong. If you really like Richan... well, that's fine but when/if he ends up not amounting to much I hope you admit you were wrong and that the Cubs made a mistake in drafting him.
  13. [tweet] [/tweet] Schwarber now has seven outfield assists. Seven! He doesn't have a cannon for an arm, but he's accurate and faster to the ball this year. I wonder when dumb teams will stop running on him... I really miss Baez because the tag from Zobrist was not great. Anyway, keep up the good work Schwarbs! http://www.bleachernation.com/2018/06/18/keep-running-fools-kyle-schwarber-throws-out-another-one-video/
  14. Yeah, I don't believe this is a great haul so it's strange that they decided to do this deal now. I mean maybe one of these prospects turns into something... Kelvin Gutierrez is ranked #10, Blake Perkins is ranked #11, and Yohanse Morel is unranked on MLB's prospect rankings. Why didn't KC wait till closer to the trade deadline?
  15. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/06/nationals-reportedly-nearing-acquisition-of-kelvin-herrera.html This deal does not include Carter Kieboom and I'm not familiar with these prospects.
  16. I wonder if this deal includes Carter Kieboom. Their farm system isn't that loaded once you get past Soto/Robles...
  17. I wonder if it's one of those extreme situations where a guy like Hoerner gets a 4-5 game stint in the AZL and then goes directly to South Bend. For a point of comparison: Bryant: 2 AZL games, 18 at Boise, then jumped to Daytona for 16 games Schwarber: 5 at Boise, 23 at Kane County, 44 at Daytona Happ: 29 at Eugene, 38 at South Bend Given Hoerner's profile(advanced bat but lesser ceiling) I wouldn't be surprised to see him spend 10-15 games in Eugene, and if he's hitting .350 like we might expect then get bumped to South Bend for the rest of the year. Yeah, I don't think Hoerner will spend much time in Eugene. It'll just be a warm-up for him. He should spend most of the year at Low-A. I'm surprised Happ spent so much time at Eugene. I think Hoerner will start next season at High-A, get a promotion to AA sometime in June/July, and start 2020 at AAA Iowa. Also, he might play in the Arizona Fall League after the 2019 season since the Cubs like to do that with their top prospects.
  18. That's a relief. I was wondering why no one else was commenting on this story (well, non-story now).
  19. This is not good news on multiple fronts. I think teams will take advantage of this situation and use this as an excuse to get out of deals they don't like anymore (teams agreed to these deals when the kids were 13 or 14 most likely) or will try to re-negotiate these deals for a smaller signing bonus. I definitely have sympathy for these kids and this raises a lot of questions... If they already had contracts in place (verbal agreements) going back a couple years why did they feel the need to take banned substances? When did they get tested for these banned substances and what did they find exactly? I doubt we'll get answers to these questions, but this whole situation sucks.
  20. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2780839-national-league-exec-nationals-bryce-harper-overrated-and-a-losing-player I'm dying to know who that executive is. One that clearly has no shot at signing him, so is taking this stance to save himself the embarrassment of a failed pursuit. Not just someone who has no shot at signing him, but also sounds pretty old-school to me. No one who is analytically inclined would say that about Harper. Almost sounds like Tony La Russa except he isn't employed by any team right now. It could one of the old-school execs in the Marlins organization. You know what lol? I wouldn't be surprised if it came from this guy:
  21. I wouldn't compare Freddy Freeman to Joey Votto just yet. Remember when posters here started calling KB "The RHH Joey Votto" lol. Hyperbolic much...
  22. Cory Abbott with an okay game today? It's probably a bad game. 4 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, and only 5 K's. I mean 5 K's in only 4 innings isn't bad.

  24. [tweet] [/tweet] So I thought I noticed this, but wasn't sure... are Russell and Zobrist incorporating a "Hadouken!" into their handshake at the 0:02 mark in the gif? Sure looks like it to me lol. That's pretty awesome if true. For people who don't know what the hell a Hadouken is: http://assets1.ignimgs.com/2017/02/14/untitled-3-1487084226815_400w.jpg
