  1. [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/986967350128848896[/tweet] https://www.minorleagueball.com/2018/4/17/17203832/2018-mlb-draft-sean-hjelle-rhp-university-of-kentucky John Sickels wrote that about RHP Sean Hjelle and he seems like the high guy on him among prospect analysts. Keith Law mentions how he's a strike thrower with good command who could still add more velocity down the road. It seems like Kiley McDaniel and Eric Longenhagen of Fangraphs are really down on Sean Hjelle, and didn't even have him listed on their Top 50 draft prospects list. I like him personally and think he might add a little more velocity as he gets older. He's so damn skinny right now. I think he has room to get stronger. I think his curveball is a plus pitch right now, and I think the changeup is solid-average and could turn into another plus pitch in time. I'll be curious to see where baseballamerica has him. I don't know if I want the Cubs to take him at #24 since there might be better prospects available, but I doubt he'll fall all the way to their next pick at the end of the 2nd round.
  2. I think Barry Larkin could be a very good hitting coach, but I haven't been impressed by his work on MLB network. In all honesty, it doesn't matter who they hire -- the Reds aren't winning this division anytime soon. #FreeVotto
  3. I don’t see them ever putting a team in Latin America anywhere. Just series here and here. I could see Vegas as a favorite. Also a group in Portland just bought two pieces of land that could be used for a future MLB stadium I completely agree. I don't ever see an MLB expansion team playing somewhere in Latin America. I could see Portland and San Antonio/Austin as expansion cities. Maybe Charlotte. I think with expansion will come re-alignment and 4 divisions in each league and 6 playoff teams (4 divisions winners and 2 WCs). I'm assuming the division winners with the 2 best records get byes in the first round in this scenario.
  4. I like Kumar Rocker a lot, but if he's asking for $5 mil then the Cubs will have to pass. I mean he's NOT that good. That's top-5 range in the draft. I guess could see him going to school and developing into a top of the draft/1-1 candidate in a few years.
  5. My reaction looking at those numbers on my phone:
  6. My favorite HS arm is Carter Stewart because of that sick curveball and now his fastball has improved. Kinda sucks we have no shot at him. I am pretty excited about the Cubs possibly having a shot at Ethan Hankins now. I'm still a big fan and think in other draft years he'd still be at the top of the draft board. This draft class is just so stacked in talented healthy arms that he's falling, which is ideal for us. Right now, I'd be pretty happy if Cole Winn or Ethan Hankins were still available at #24. I also like Mason Denaburg.
  7. [tweet] [/tweet] I've already seen this epic HR like twenty times.
  8. this has helped me realize how to make these games watchable... Or this... http://i1.wp.com/www.sopitas.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/walterwhite.gif?resize=500%2C282
  9. Damn it. I guess we're just setting up for another amazing Cubs comeback...
  10. Man does it hurt seeing Dexter in a Cardinals uniform. I hope he gets traded this offseason (I don't care where) and I never have to see him being unhappy in baseball hell.
  11. Come on Heyward...I believe in you (no I don't).
  12. https://www.thecubreporter.com/04162018/cubs-top-giant-black-riverview 1. Brailyn Marquez: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 0/3 GO/AO, 33 pitches (19 strikes) 2. Jeremiah Estrada: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 0/1 GO/AO, 39 pitches (16 strikes) That's awesome to read about. I really liked Estrada in last year's draft and I'm glad he fell to the Cubs. If that plus changeup is back and he can command it I'm not too worried about the curveball. I remember even reading some scouting reports that mentioned how it might develop into a plus-plus changeup in time.
  13. [tweet]https://twitter.com/statcast/status/986023963158630401[/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] https://deadspin.com/bryce-harper-delivers-sweet-sweet-broken-bat-home-run-1825308377 Wow, that was impressive. I can't wait till Harper is doing this for the Cubs.
  14. I'm very impressed with his bat, but how good is he defensively? I've read mixed things. If he can be solid-average at a bunch of positions he'll be a nice utility option/bench bat for us later this year and going forward. He could potentially replace Zobrist.
  15. I've told my close friends that I feel like Paxson and the Bulls franchise gets a hard-on for Duke players. Look up the history of this franchise and our obsession with drafting/signing players from that school. We signed Carlos Boozer. We wanted to sign JJ Redick back in the day... the Bulls drafted Chris Duhon and Elton Brand and Luol Deng and Jay Williams. The Bulls have been rumored to have interest in other Duke players in previous drafts too. Personally, I feel like many Duke players are overrated and overhyped. I also hate Duke and most players that choose to go there. That said, I do love Marvin Bagley and think he's a special player who will improve a lot once he joins the league. He's my favorite prospect in this draft class. I think Doncic is overrated. His production in Europe is pretty special for how young he is, but he's going to have difficulty playing defense in the NBA. I think he's the third or fourth best prospect in this draft. Ayton is a special talent and probably the best two-way player in the draft. I like Bagley more, but Ayton is very good and much better defensively. I've heard Patrick Ewing as a comp for Ayton. He should go #1.
  16. I don't have high hopes for Bryan Hudson, but let us know if his curveball/breaking ball looks good. That was his best pitch in HS and it's really regressed since he signed. Obviously, the big name at MB is Aramis Ademan. Hopefully he looks good and has a great game.
  17. https://nbadraft.theringer.com/?_ga=2.225715994.1421288706.1523440641-172385535.1504777008 They have Mikal Bridges ranked all the way up to 4 behind Doncic, Ayton and Jackson Jr. On ESPN's Top 100 Ranking they have Michael Porter at 7 and Mikal Bridges at 10, so not a big gap there. I like Porter, but I don't know where he is in his recovery and/or what might show up on his physical. He also barely played this year. I'm sure he will take part in pre-draft workouts so we'll know a lot more closer to the draft.
  18. [tweet] [/tweet] He has 8 HRs so far this year. His stats are very impressive. I think he's still in that late first round range.
  19. He will always be a large man lol. It took way too long for that to happen. Mike Montgomery hit one for us last year.
  20. http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/2012/09/Billy-D_Approves.gif Well played, Maddon.
  21. I still believe Bagley is the best player in this draft class. I think most execs and scouts would categorize it as Doncic and Ayton as Tier 1. Then Bagley, Jackson Jr., Bamba, and Mikal Bridges as Tier 2. Bridges has improved his stock a lot and is rising. Trae Young is falling and Porter is an unknown at this point. I want the Bulls to trade up for Bagley if they don't get lucky and move up in the lottery. I'd also be fine with taking Mikal Bridges at #6.
  22. I'm glad Baez responded. I can't wait for the day when Clint Hurdle gets fired.
  23. A manager that presumably ordered, or at least had no problem with, his own pitcher intentionally hitting Jake Arrieta in a horsefeathering playoff game as 'revenge' for a couple of accidental plunks - IN A horsefeathering PLAYOFF GAME - can never say anything about 'respecting the game' ever again. I'm fairly certain the motive wasn't even revenge but rather 'Arrieta is carving us up and our season has like 9 outs left, maybe if we put one in his ribs it'll throw him off and we'll have a chance. Yeah, that's the exact same thing I thought when it happened. They did it just to try to throw Jake off and it failed spectacularly.
