I think he's good enough to give us 5 innings and keep us in a game in October. (And I think he can get better, since he's been better his whole career.) Mainly, he hasn't been hit as hard since around mid-May and the results (ERA) have been better. His exit velocity numbers and batted ball data looked really bad at the start of the year. Since then, it's mostly been the walks, which have stayed around all year. Not forgiving the walks, because they are bad, but he can survive with our defense if he isn't getting hit hard. It’s just crazy that what you described above is the starter we feel best about right now on a team with the best record in the NL We feel the best about Quintana right now? Seriously? I still trust Hendricks more in a big playoff game and if Hamels shows the same stuff he did in the first game I'd prefer him over Quintana as well. Still too early to say Hamels over Quintana definitively.
