    I think it’s a case of both . I think this weekend not been on marquee is about the Japan trip . However , they didn’t do any road broadcast this year . I remember in previous years , pretty much every game was on Marquee during ST .

    Didn’t understand why Tucker swung at a 3-0 pitch with no outs , nobody on and down by multiple runs in the 7th inning I think it was . PCA did the same thing on a 2-0 count in the 8th . Both were really bad pitches out of the strike zone , but whatever . 0-2 and now they have to get on a plane 13 hours , back to Arizona and play fake baseball for 5 days . The schedule in April is brutal as it has been pointed out already

    And people get upset when some suggest the Cubs make offers only to make fans think they are trying . Any winning bid for Bregman was going to include and opt out after the 1st and most likely needed a 30.0 AAV . Cubs just made sure to come just low enough on AAV with no opt out 🤣. As Jeff Passan said yesterday , they didn’t offer the most dollars , they didn’t offer most years , they didnt offer highest AAV . I would add to that , they offered the least flexibility , so how were they expecting to win the bid ? Answer is simple . They weren’t expecting to win and they didn’t want to win . Same thing with Scott . Didn’t come up to 4 years until the last moment when there was talk the Cubs were his 1st choice and he waited for them 2 weeks to match the offer . They came in lower than the Dodgers on AAV🤣.

    Canario could get some work at 1B this spring . If they somehow keep him , might as well give it a try .

    I don’t care if it is short term , that’s awful . If he has a down year they are stuck with him at 40.0 on AAV . Yikes

    FWIW , in a follow up tweet , Ofman said he still be shocked if the Cubs get Bregman .

    If he is signing with the cubs I think it happens in the next 48 hours at latest . Boras has been in this situation before with Hoyer , and he probably knows the Cubs aren’t going up in years at this point . The 1st full squad workout is Friday and if Bregman wants to opt out after 2025 , I think he wants things as normal as possible with his spring training . He is in Arizona already as he lives there , so if this is going to happen , I would expect it really soon , so he can take his physical on Friday at the latest . Cubs play a regular season game really early this year . Position players have to be ready to play a full 9 innings basically in mid march . Him holding out a couple of more weeks wouldn’t be great .

    Considering the team backup at 1B as of now is Jon Berti , give me Turner . With that said , I don’t think Tuner will sign with the Cubs . There isn’t much playing time available . They will have trouble finding someone due to this .

    A couple of Bregman related notes : Buster Olney says Bregman will sign soon and likely to be with Tigers / Red Sox / Cubs Robert Murray is skeptical that Bregman will get a long term deal . Thinks final decision will be between Red Sox / Cubs / Tigers .

    This is from Levine’s latest article : Bregman has been seeking a six-year or seven-year deal, but the average annual value of the deal is just as important to him as the total value and length of it, sources said, I think it’s going to be very interesting to see what is more important to him, if no one gives him what he wants . Is it AAV or years ? With that said if the Cubs aren’t willing to do 4 years , I don’t think they will get him . We have conflicting reports on that front . Some are saying the Cubs offered 4 and Nightendale is saying they would do 3 max .

    This is from a couple of days ago , but Feisand doesn’t mention the Cubs as a team in on Bregman : The Blue Jays, Tigers and Red Sox still seem to be in play to varying degrees, but unlike some of Scott Boras’ other clients, Bregman appears to have no desire to sign a short-term deal with opt outs. Maybe they decided it wasn’t worth it and stop pursuing him ?

    Blue Jays GM said any add they do from this point on will likely be via trade ( FWIW . As long as the Cubs offer is the highest on AAV , they have a chance here . It could take about one more week of waiting , but I think they have a chance . All this I want 6 years talk , could be Boras trying to get the Cubs to meet in between ( 5 years ) I don’t think the Cubs will go 5 , but even at 4 / 120 it could get done .
