    Conforto’s turnaround after those few at bats he took early has been unreal . . He is crushing the ball . Too bad there aren’t at bats available for him . With that said having him swinging like this of the bench is pretty big as well .

    If he is healthy , I think he will be fine . He is a slow starter offensively . From June on , he turns it around

    Does anybody else think that we could see a lot of 1 year deals next offseason with the rushed FA after the lockout ?

    I know he got it right , but they really need to be careful with these early challenges .They got burned badly the other day in SD

    IDK , but they will need to extend one of Happ / Seiya . I am not ready to give Shaw an everyday OF spot .

    No , Ballesteros should have not hit in that situation , considering Counsell hasn’t showed any faith in him so far againts them . He got a walk , but that doesn’t mean it was the right call or the move that gave his team the best chance . I think using Kelly and Shaw for Moises and PCA in those situations was the higher percentage move , especially with Pete when the tying run was at the plate . Shaw is running like a 186 wrc againts lefties . PCA has been better this season so far , but pretty meh overall at 86. . Even if they bring a righty for Shaw I like the matchup better than Pete againts a lefty . I edited my original post to talk about how good of a job Counsell has done so far this year overall . With that said it’s fair to question that decision last night IMO . Pete should not take important at bats late in games againts lefties at this point , simple as that . it really doesn’t matter if the game is in April or September . They all count the same .

    I really don’t care if he started a rally last night . We have a larger sample than one AB, that’s says he absolutely sucks againts lefties . it’s ok to criticize when they made dumb decisions .

    Absolutely , Shaw should have pinch hit there . PCA has absolutely no business hitting against a lefty in a game defining AB . That’s absolutely on Craig . I think he has done an outstanding job so far considering everything . That wasn’t a good decision , unless Shaw is hurt or not available

    PCA now has 307 career pa againts lefties with a 56 wrc . I know he plays defense , but if this continues how soon are we going to see him start to get time off againts them ? With that said you need a strong option and I don’t know the Cubs have that . maybe Shaw can develop into a CF ?

    This just keeps getting better and better . Charlie Barnes ? Really ? Taillon pitching with the wind blowing straight out at 20 miles . What could go wrong ? Regardless of how things are going so far , I have to say long term concerns are on my mind right now about the Cubs in this division . Some pretty strong minor league systems in it , while the Cubs seem to be going in the wrong direction with theirs . Let’s hope they decide to throw big money at FA every offseason , because that’s the only advantage they have .

    Because if Shaw is DH and he has to move into a position during a game , Cubs would lose the DH . DH a guy that you expect to be your main backup at several positions , doesn’t make sense

    According to Levine , Cubs are planning to play Shaw a lot in RF againts lefties

    To be fair , they don’t totally rule it out , but they don’t seem too optimistic . The interesting thing is they said it feels like they have 1 more move . If it isn’t Gallen , then who ?

    If we are going to go by what Sharma and Mooney are saying , Zac Gallen is not happening for the Cubs .

    Seems like the Red Sox are talking Duran with the Astros for Paredes but , the Astros don’t want to take any salary back in a Paredes trade . Interesting , they are also talking with the Pirates with Joey Bart involved . A 3 team trade is also a possibility , seems like . With that in mind I wonder if there is a way for the Cubs to get involved there ? Cubs get Duran , Red Sox get Paredes and the Astros get a pair of Cubs players .? I wonder if the Astros would be willing to give Alcantara a chance in LF ? If they are looking for a catcher , Amaya involved maybe ? Duran’s salary is 7.7 for this season , so if the Cubs were to get him they would still be way under the 2nd tier of the LT.

    Yeah , that maybe the case . At this point I don’t see him getting anything other than a short term with an opt out ot two . Really I don’t think waiting for Valdez will make him get a different type of deal . Seems like he is giving the Dbacks all the time possible to come up with the money . Money is a real issue for them however . They just got Arenado and Santana for like 7 mil combined I believe .

    A little update on Gallen , out of Arizona : If he truly wants to have a new team before ST , obviously running out of time

    A lot of chatter about Cijntje and Peete going to St Louis . Nothing confirmed by any of the national reporters yet .

    Suárez to Reds 1/15 with mutual option at 16 . Not thrilled to have him in the division with the amount of damage he does againts the Cubs . Boston has to get Paredes now , I would think

    Hays was never all that likely to sign with the Cubs . Cubs simply don’t have the AB available . For that same reason Andujar will most likely go elsewhere as well . I suspect they are basically done with the roster , unless a creative deal with Gallen becomes realistic
