  1. Just heard Ron talking with Piniella about the lineup. He mentioned Fukudome and Byrd getting days off, but made no comment regarding Soto/Hill. He did, however, mention something to the effect of "we're gonna play the guys who get results".
  2. If these first few games are any indication, the reds' bullpen is going to be an issue.
  3. Would've been nice to score more, but I loved the approach that inning. 94 pitches for Jurrjens.
  4. I didn't think this deserved it's own thread (maybe we should just create a "Cards Accusations of Cheating by Opponents" thread for the 2010 season?) : http://interact.stltoday.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=710428 The manner in which the Reds are rubbing their balls is still not to the Cardinals' liking. Has any other team complained about this?
  5. I'm not sure I buy it. I'm sure he's had a great spring but once the season starts and pitchers aren't working on perfecting their stuff and are more concerned with getting outs and winning games, if Colvin keeps up his insane BABIP, pitchers will stop pitching to him. And when they do that, will Colvin actually take a walk, something he hasn't done all spring? While I largely agree with you, I must add that in the games I have followed this spring, Colvin has done a good job of working counts. He hasn't drawn a single walk, but he does seem willing to take pitches in order to place himself in a favorable position to get a hittable pitch. I realize this is purely anecdotal evidence (to the extent that it is evidence at all), but I am reluctantly finding myself in the "Maybe Colvin is For Real" camp. That BABIP is tough to shrug off, though.
  6. Broken bat RBI double for Colvin. That boy is charmed.
  7. Is this shirt even intended for wear by cubs fans? The design and sentiment of the garment smacks of the "Cork" shirts I so often see witty cards fans sporting.
  8. I prefer a triple to a walk ever day of the week. He is absolutely on fire at the moment, and that ball was smoked over the CF's head. Yeah, I'm just kidding. He is playing out of his mind this spring. Still, I can't help getting a little excited every time he works a 3-0 or 3-1 count. It would be nice to see him add "base on balls' to his sparkling spring resume. Edit: FUKUBOMB!!
  9. Colvin works a count to 3-1, then drives a triple to center. Almost got that elusive first walk. Too bad.
  10. Did you read the thread? It is about 3 posts saying it isn't a rivalry anymore, 30 posts laughing at that notion and the rest being arguments about different rivalries. I think its pretty obvious that I didn't.
  11. I feel an interminably protracted playoff schedule would be an excellent way prepare NCAA players for the rigors of the NBA.
  12. I can't believe this debate is approaching three pages of posts.
  13. GO/AO of 3.00, coupled with a .600 babip, suggests to me that some grounders are finding holes.
  14. How does a guy manage an above .500 babip with a 3.2 GO/AO? Colvin doesn't need to go to Chicago, he needs to go to Vegas.
  15. As explained by Parisi himself. Everyone knows that curve balls just don't break at altitude like they do everywhere else. Arizona is notorious for making curve ball pitchers nuts! I say let him pitch in five games for Chicago. If he is not looking like he belongs, return him and call up whomever they would have called up instead (I assume it is James Russell). Russell would need to be added to the 40-man anyway and Parisi's spot would be his for the duration. Mike Parisi is this season's David Patton (read: ineffective pitcher we hide in our bullpen at the expense of a roster spot)?
  16. this question is straight out of the Fox News school of polling. you might as well have thrown in "Most people who support this bill have been shown to be child molesters. Do you support this bill?" The "length argument" is one that really irks me. The health care bill's much bemoaned length is consistent with most major spending bills, including Bush's 2007 budget (1482 pages), which republicans had no trouble plowing through. Unlike the aforementioned budget, however, it is projected to decrease the deficit.
  17. Has Grabow done anything but suck this spring?
  18. This would upset me if I felt Gorzelanny and/or Samardzija were better options. Luckily, Lilly seems to be progressing more quickly than anticipated in his rehab.
  19. Didn't feel this merited an entire game thread, but Silva left the game this afternoon with an injury of some kind. He pitched relatively well over the two innings prior to his departure: 1 H 1 R 1 BB 2 K 1 HR (2 GO, 2 FO). edit: Sore right quadriceps. Worked a little longer in the bullpen after leaving the game. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/03/carlos-silva-leaves-cub-start-with-sore-leg.html
  20. I read the first one he got called out on strikes and then laid the bat down and waited in the batter's box until he got tossed, which is hilarious. My understanding of this situation (according to statements made by Wakamatsu) is that Bradley wasn't trying to show up the ump, but rather that he thought the inning was over and was waiting for the bat boy to bring him his glove and cap. This--if true--is even more hilarious.
  21. 4-2 Dodgers. All the runs off Grabow, who posts a line of 1 IP 3 H 2 R (both earned) 1 BB 0 K. I know its ST, but his performance thus far is not making me feel any better about his contract or his "veteran presence". He is probably the 4th or 5th best lefty in camp (not counting Lilly).
