  1. Hearing about this trade made me think of this post: This guy is presently: a) hyperventilating b) opening a Jake Fox-themed joke account at an A's site c) a and b I'm guessing "c". With respect to the matter at hand, I haven't been this pleased with a low-profile trade since Hendry flipped Neifi for Chris Robinson. That may be the only positive memory I have of the '06 season.
  2. Average April temperature in Minneapolis is 57, and in October it's 58. It won't be that chilly If your data is the same as mine (http://climate.umn.edu/doc/twin_cities/twin_cities.htm), those are average high temperatures you're quoting. Unless they plan to schedule all their April/October home games for 1 pm, it's going to be pretty brisk. Probably more like mid-to-low 40's by 7 pm central.
  3. What monkey wrote this sentence? I think its pretty obvious that this part-time Naples resident and cofounder of Esmark, Inc., a Chicago based company, simply has the first name "Neither". Well, then its strange that Neither Bouchard was immediately available for comment but the article didn't include it. Because no one cares what some guy named Neither said? Ok, I'll leave now. Carry on, serious perusers of this thread.

  5. Walleye on a stick. I love the upper-midwest.
  6. That's a pet peeve of mine too (although not enough to make an issue of). Resign is what people do to avoid being fired. Yeah, I'm (mostly) just kidding.
  7. Every time jerry hairston steps to the plate, I expect to see him savagely tackled and escorted off by Yankee security... or perhaps have the bat torn from his hands and delivered to safety by Rick Monday.
  8. Although I'm not sure how Freddy feels about the situation, I do know he re-signed with the Giants. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/resign I'll quit being a jerk now.
  9. So, who called "Jerry Hairston, Jr. will be the Yankees' starting RF in game 2 of the World Series" back in July? August?
  10. I'm not watching this one (keeping up with the game at work). Is there any indication as to what Manuel intends to do in the 9th? At 106 pitches, I would imagine he lets Lee finish it.
  11. "Then, in 1990, out of nowhere, Fielder suddenly appears out of nowhere and starts doing things that no mere mortal can do, seemingly out of nowhere." I'm convinced of one thing: No one truly knows the nebulous origins Cecil Feilder. Show us your birth certificate, Cecil!
  12. The answers to this thread's titular questions: No and (no), apparently. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/20/AR2009102003446.html?hpid=moreheadlines
  13. A friend sent me these links: http://www.halosheaven.com/2009/10/19/1092390/mariano-rivera-caught-doctoring http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KihPKUZni8Y The video footage seems a little more ambiguous than the Angels blog claims, although it does look as though he may have spit directly on the ball. Part of me finds it difficult to believe Mariano would be so brazen/stupid, but stranger things have happened... Anyway, is this a big deal? I'm inclined to say "not really".
  14. Couple the fact that Kosuke put up the 3rd best OPS of NL CFers in 2009 with our dire OF situation and I'm kind of hoping Fukudome stays the course...
  15. http://www.tnr.com/article/against-moneyball Buzz takes his shots at Lewis and Beane.
  16. I'm pulling for the Dodgers in this game. More accurately, I'm pulling for Kershaw.
  17. Pettitte perfect through 4, 5 K. Meanwhile, through 4+, Pavano has surrendered 2 hits, 0 BB and 0 R while recording 6 K. Unexpected pitchers' duel.
  18. Ankiel's (likely) final AB as a Cardinal is a 3-pitch, season-ending K. Fitting end to that fairytale...
  19. I was really hoping Molina would try to take 3rd again.
  20. The Times weighs in on Chip: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/09/sports/baseball/09sandomir.html?_r=2&ref=sports
  21. Bah. Just noticed this was already posted in the "Baseball History" thread. Apologies. Feel free to lock this one up.
  22. Interesting multimedia piece from the NYT: http://video.nytimes.com/video/2009/10/08/sports/baseball/1247465064285/the-great-bambino-resurfaces.html?ref=sports Interesting to hear from the archivists themselves. Turk Wendell being Turk Wendell brings back some memories.
