  2. Holliday error. 2 unearned runs. Cards lose. Beautiful. Bring out the brooms, Dodgers!! SWEEP!!
  3. How great is it that Jeff Weaver got the improbable, playoff win tonight. The Cards created that monster....
  4. With the tying run at the plate, Mike Shannon sounds like he's reading the phone book. Strike 3. Go Dodgers!
  5. Nice postseason debut for Mitch Boggs.
  6. John Rooney (Cards' radio braodcaster, calling 2-out Pujols AB): "2-1 pitch... outside! and Holliday will have a chance to tie it with one swing!" Apparently, John thought we were playing slow-pitch softball tonight.
  7. Carpenter's at 102 pitches (facing Kemp). I'll take the LA bullpen over STL.
  8. Carp with a 3.25 whip through 4+, 3 ER. Feel free to blow up whenever you like, Chris.
  9. I just happen to be a pristine bowl of (sentient) cheerios; so there.
  10. Wow. Didn't see that (Weaver) coming.
  11. I am, but I live in LA and their fans are douches. Ok, free pass. I live in STL. I want this done in three.
  12. I love Mark DeRosa more and more.
  13. Ok. I realize the Dodgers swept the Cubs last year. Fine. Am I the only one who really isn't angry with the Dodgers? The Cubs (not named Derrek Lee) sucked in that series. We LOST that series. It wasn't stolen from us. It was disappointing, but I don't hate them for it.
  14. I'm with you on that. I sometimes wonder if A-Rod is like the "guy who is a total jerk because he needs to get laid", to make a crude analogy. Maybe if he performs well and wins a series, he'll loosen up a little bit... And yeah, I realize I'm performing the same kind of armchair psychoanalysis I so detest in sports journalism.
  15. I don't care if who the Dodgers have on their team; how the hell can you root for the Cardinals?!? um...they are NOT playing the cubs they are a quality team being my dad's favorite team probably helps as well Well, the Cubs are my dad's favorite team; that doesn't keep me from hating them at times...
  16. The prospect of a Carpenter meltdown is making me giddy. So much schadenfreude...
  17. There is a little part of me that doesn't care about the inscrupulous manner in which the Yankees were constructed, a part of me that just enjoys watching this baseball colossus crush a team like the Twins. I think this desire arises from the same reptilian component of the brain that drives pre-adolescent boys to shoot cats with pellet guns.
  18. Moderately on topic: Curtis Granderson is the only player in baseball (2009) to reach the 30 HR plateau with an OPS of less than .800 (.779). Tejada was the only other one to come close (29 HRs, .797 OPS, so HR 30 may have disqualified him!). This seems like a rather rare combo. Is this as weird as it seems to me?
  19. When Smoltz was getting outperformed by Arroyo, I assumed the excuse would be that he was "tipping his pitches". Duncan/LaRussa opted for the "after the fact accusation of cheating" instead, though. It was a 50/50 shot. Oh well.
  20. Congrats to Morton on his first complete game. Hopefully, in the closing days of a lost '09 season, these Cubs can continue to spread goodwill throughout the league, helping young starters achieve "career firsts", aiding aging vets toward long-sought professional plateaus, and teaching the whole world that winning isn't as important as being a good friend. Yeah.
  21. So... Charlie Morton is gonna throw a 4-hit shutout against us, huh?
  22. Ladies and gentlemen: The Cubs are on the cusp of winning a game that Randy Johnson pitched in.
