  1. The writer argues that the Cubs should eat salary if necessary to move Soriano because "he is a symbol of what Cubs fans don't like about this club", only to then continue that Hendry should take "a page out of Kenny William's book" and pursue players like Peavy and Rios--not because those deals worked out, but because they demonstrated "outside the box thinking". Weird.
  2. Quade has already demonstrated a willingness to play just about anyone at 1B, irrespective of experience. Baker (30.1 inning ML, 3 G MiL experience prior to 2011), Colvin (no prior experience) and LeMahieu (no prior experience) have already combined to field 92.0 innings at 1B. I don't think the prospect of lacking a legitimate option at the position will dissuade them from dealing Pena. Long term, I agree that they need to address 1B. Short term, it appears Quade will plug in anyone with a glove.

  4. Ditto for the second biggest moment of the game. Versus a LHP, no less. Soto career vs. lefties: .313/.412/.522 Koyie career vs. lefties: .238/.287/.318 Just unbelievable.
  5. Congrats Quade, you've been outmaneuvered by Ozzie [expletive] Guillen.
  6. I would rather have Moreland hitting in that situation than Hill.
  7. Couldn't PH for Hill there? Christ.
  8. Carlos Pena's trade value rises further...
  9. I'm comfortable with Castro staying at short.
  10. He may only hit when clad in red fabrics.
  11. Lovely barehanded play by Castro to get Vizquel.
  12. Lee suffered non-displaced fractures of both his right ulna and radius. Pujols fractured only his left radius. The expected recovery time is similar in both cases.
  13. The Starlin Casto Show, with your host Starlin Castro!
  14. I'm not a physician either, but a distal radius fracture (which is, if I'm not mistaken what Pujols has) is a fracture of the radius near the wrist. Derrek had non-displaced fractures in both his distal radius and distal ulna. Edit: Re: Pujols staying in STL, my point is that if everyone is similarly risk averse, he may be inclined to stay put in an environment he reportedly enjoys living and working in.
  15. I think this slants the odds heavily toward Pujols' returning to the Cards. If competing franchises cannot be certain of his health/ability going forward, they are not going to tender an offer generous enough to lure him away from St. Louis. Meanwhile, those teams that may have emptied the bank for Pujols will likely turn their attention to Prince. I this may be great news for Fielder and Boras.
  16. That places Pujols' return date at the end of July/beginning of August, providing him with about two months to demonstrate that his bottom hand can operate like it has in the past.
  17. Betemit:Pujols::Furcal:Lee? MRI and X-ray examinations to be performed on his left wrist tomorrow.
  18. That didn't seem so much like a bad hop as it did DeWitt losing the ball in his glove. Castro fed him on the bag with plenty of time.
  19. 1 run each on an error, passed ball and wild pitch.
  20. The Brewers pitch around Castro to get to our 3-hitter...
  21. He hasn't had a hit since April 28 (15 games, 34 PA ago). Since then, he's had 2 walks, 9 K and 1 RBI (sac fly).
