    The guy who blew the whistle on Illinois' slush fund in 1967 that resulted in penalties that tanked football and basketball for over a decade was a DIA official who was mad he was passed over for AD. Illinois wasn’t doing anything different than what a lot of other schools were doing, but they got caught by an insider who had access to the paper trail.

    Am I misunderstanding the Michigan sign stealing controversy? Are they in trouble for looking at things anyone with a ticket to a game and a cell phone could be seeing? I guess I was assuming there were already scouts at every game watching that stuff.

    I’m having a really hard time finding any examples of NFL HCs with a record like Eberflus’ coming back for a third season. if they rebound and are competitive the rest of the way, finishing 7-10 or maybe even 6-11, I could see an argument for bringing him back. Otherwise, no way.

    I think Philly will win, but Gallen and Kelly is a pretty damn good 1-2. If those two can start 4 of the 7 games, Arizona has a chance.

    He’s basically been the same pitcher he’s been for his entire career during the second half of the season. The first half was the outlier.

    Nico is 9th in Cubs’ season stolen bases during the Live Ball Era. Pierre (06) - 58 Sandberg (85), Young (00) - 54 Lopes (85) - 47 Dernier (84) - 45 DeJesus (80) - 44 Kuyler (29), Grantham (1923) - 43 Hoerner (2023) - 42. Probably won’t make the top 4, but could get to 5 or 6.

    Dave Wannstedt was generally successful at his post Bears stops. .575 winning percentage over 11 seasons at both the Dolphins and Pitt. I still think that he could have been successful in Chicago had they paired him with an actual general manager instead of whatever the bizarre three-headed personnel monster they went with.

    The cynic in me is wondering if Poles, Eberflus and Getsy have figured out that the only way they’re saving their jobs is if Bagent is the next Kurt Warner.

    Unfortunately that great defense has been coupled with a sub-.500 OPS over the last 3 weeks or so.

    Update: Toledo is not a better team than Kansas. Illinois did not play better than against Toledo. Could be a long season.

    Toledo is probably a better team than Kansas, but the Illini still need to play better than last week tonight to win.
