    Matt Chapman will be a free agent. Chapman's obviously a better glove, but Jeimer is a year younger and actually stacks up against him better than I thought with the stick throughout his career, and is having a significantly better year with the bat this season.

    Those first five years with the Cubs Hack hit .331/.419/.612, with 177 home runs (led the League 4 times), 708 RBI and 30.6 bWAR. Offensive numbers were crazy at that time, but Hack was still a cut above everyone else in the NL. While Hack and the Cubs didn’t make the Series in 30, they did in 29, where they lost to an absolutely stacked A’s team with Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, Left Grove and Mickey Cochrane. Tom Hanks’ character Jimmy Dugan in A League of Their Own was a composite of Hack and Jimmie Foxx.

    Really? Notre Dame taking their non-football sports to the ACC was the integral event in the disintegration of the original Big East. Notre Dame could put a stop to the eventual disintegration of the ACC and slow down the conference shuffle to a standstill tomorrow. All they’d have to do is announce they’re joining the ACC for football.

    They did change that bad throw by Madrigal from a hit to an error. So take away an ER for Steele.

    With Assad and Wes making multi-inning relief appearances on consecutive nights, it would make sense to send Kay down and bring up a fresh arm. Cuas?

    I don’t know how others feel about the position player pitching, but my feeling is that with your opponent trying to save their bullpen for the next 2 games in the series, you should keep taking good at bats and tee off on him.

    I wouldn't mind seeing what Bummer could do with an actual infield defense behind him. Assuming the Sox would give him away for practically free.

    Smyly is already at 103 innings. He hasn’t thrown more than 126 since 2016. So just giving him some rest might not be the worst idea.

    I don’t envy Hoyer. I know I’m nowhere near dispassionate enough to be making the decision. I want good baseball NOW! Damn the torpedoes. Sell all the prospects. when that doesn’t work, sign all the free agents in the off-season.

    I think Hoyer’s job security is less an issue than the fact that the Cubs roster seems to be set up to compete through 2026 based on the contracts they’ve given out. I think Hoyer will be trying to get assets that will contribute in that time frame, and I’m not sure Stroman or Bellinger will give you that.
