  1. aikman complained about that too, but was it really that bad of a play? There was 40 seconds left and they had 2 timeouts
  2. stan has no plan
  3. a cub has the longest postseason hr since 2015, but i bet almost nobody here would guess who it was https://www.mlb.com/news/longest-playoff-home-runs-c297296892
  4. I mean that's the new deadspin in a nutshell. They are trying to create controversy instead of reporting on it. A coach in the cubs system did a murder suicide. In any other year this would have been a HUGE story. I'm not going to bother reading zombie deadspin's take on it, but I'm not going to pretend writing about it is "creating controversy". of course it should be written about, i don't think anyone is questioning that. the cubs angle is just sloppily shoehorned in.
  5. vegas was able to extend lehner for just 5/25. hawks really bungled this, he would have been a much better use of resources than all the nonsense they've spent money on the last couple years bowman has to go. they got some luck and had a chance to reboot things, but he failed miserably. last offseason was the nail in his coffin.
  6. every once in a while i go there out of habit
  7. look at jimmy go
  8. I'm all for the cubs getting called out over the russell stuff and their evil ownership, but what is this? https://deadspin.com/minor-league-coach-s-murder-suicide-is-only-the-latest-1845268981 did this guy have a history before the Cubs employed him? If not, what is going on in this piece? and if they wanted to do this, why didnt they reference chapman?
  9. Why do people keep pretending spending money equals wins? They just lost to the team with the lowest payroll in baseball. The resources have been put into this team, the players just aren't good enough. do you think mookie betts would have helped this team this year? dj lemahieu? any of the million bats that signed the last 2 offseasons? obviously the core was a huge problem year, but to say that spending more doesnt help you win is pure idiocy. pointing out exceptions doesnt make it less true.
  10. didnt you say you wanted a full rebuild? I see a lot of cubs fans talking about a full teardown and rebuild while also saying they want to keep hendricks and darvish. if you're doing a full rebuild, those are like the first 2 guys to go. I think the only way you keep darvish is if you plan on competing no later than 2022 (while trying a yankee style reboot). and even then you should probably still trade him now, considering his age and health history. basically the only way it makes sense to keep yu is if we're trying to win next year, which I think we should be doing. just with a completely different offense.
  11. keep: rizzo, baez, bryant trade: happ, schwarber, willson i simply don't give a shitt: every other position player i say keep baez/bryant because i don't think they have great value and i'd rather hope for a rebound and maybe for a team friendly extension (i still think this happens with javy)
  12. i don't want to do it, but yu and hendricks would get some pretty awesome packages in return, yea?
  13. i loved how they spent an entire half inning sucking off yadi, and then went completely silent went pham stole the base
  14. they're fine with the cubs. anything that makes the fans more amenable to a firesale and rebuild is probably good for them.
  15. the frustrating thing is that they could still easily contend if they'd spend just a little bit and if theo could just find a way to make the offense decent. we already have two controlled TOR pitchers on the roster and that's like the hardest part.
  16. theo is so busted he cant even build a team with real patience anymore. just brute forcing walks by making a bunch of dumb hitters take a million pitches
  17. baez/bryant/rizzo are 19/140 with 51 k and 6 walks in the postseason since the ws
  18. watching Schwarber ABs is just brutal
  19. you know we have greater context for this than the last 2 games, right?
  20. mediocre fastballs up in the zone just baffle the cubs
