  1. He's certainly not. The majority of baseball fans may get off on being withholding, but there's a sizable minority who think the HOF should be a bit bigger. I don't necessarily think the HOF should be a bit bigger, but there are certainly a few guys who have no business at all being in there (Rabbit Maranville, I'm looking in your direction). If you swapped out a few of those guys with Raines, etc I think it would be ok. This sounds like a JoeChat response minus the parenthetical. Really have never heard arguments for the HOF to be more inclusive. Consider my eyes opened.
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKEw7JNVcnw THUMBS UP "How else are you gonna do it?"
  3. I keep seeing this guy referenced... what is PSD? ProSportsDaily Cubs forum a poster there named Marlin has called various Cubs moves in the past. He rarely shows up, but when he does whatever he posts seems to be legit info. ProSportsDaily! Thanks. That's been driving me nuts for weeks. How did you break your google?
  4. I wonder if teams might be wary of dealing with Theo for pitching for the same reason they might (rightfully) be wary of dealing with Beane. Theo has publicly stated, for what it's worth, that he feels maintaining pitcher health is the new market inefficiency. He supported this by going after Maddux, a guy who helped usher in a new training regimen for pitchers and personally converted a short reliever to an elite starter in two years. Yet, it is doubtful that Maddux has the SABR inclinations that we thought would be a prerequisite in Theo's search, again suggesting a re-focus on pitching above all. And I realize that Beane just got a king's ransom for Gio, but Gio doesn't have Garza's financial RoR. Anyone dealing for Garza would need to be prepared to extend him right away. He's got a couple more years on Gio, thus more mileage on his arm and will get expensive quite quickly. And by all accounts, Theo is asking for as much or more for him (and yet almost seems insistent on moving him). Maybe all those extra breaking balls have him/other teams worried.
  5. Hahah, you're a funny guy! Wait, there's nothing for Castro to prove. Oh, joke fail. Please tell me your post was a horrible attempt at sarcasm. Gold-digger? It was not sarcasm. But at 10:40pm last night, I'm glad I wasn't rolling into a checkpoint, if you know what I mean. Everything. You say. Is creepy.
  6. don't call the hall too inclusive and then set some horribly inclusive and arbitrary standard for entrance Sorry, too much NY's celebration. I meant to say that the HOF is too exclusive. I think you are quite possibly the only person in the entire world who believes that
  7. This is WSR's most embarrassing thread yet. Way to somehow stand out among all the misogyny going on here. Great start to the day.
  8. It's staggering how many worthless posts some little nothing trade like this garners. People posting links to the same thing 3 or 4 times, LLF talking about...anything, etc. I nothing this trade. I don't understand the polarity it's garnering at all. And I don't understand why certain posters are still around.
  9. Look up about five posts. he had a week off, cut him some slack  It was two, actually. Felt like a day
  10. Sneaky nailed it when he posted about failed former top prospects being the new market inefficiency. Theo done picked himself up two of em already (possibly three; not sure how well-regarded T Wood ever was).
  11. Breaking News - The Cubs will be signing Pudge any day now.   STOP. EXISTING. Dude...it's called HUMOR! Learn about it! Hahaha
  12. yeah i also thought drabek was a little overrated. frankly i think he ends up in the bullpen long term. Yeah I never got it either. I don't think he ever had a K/9 rate above 9. And his numbers in AAA were Jay Jackson-like. And now it appears his control is falling off a damn cliff. I like Travis Wood's chances going forward better than Drabek.
  13. Breaking News - The Cubs will be signing Pudge any day now.   STOP. EXISTING.
  14. My Sox fan buddy was talking about how they were shopping Quentin and thought this would bolster their farm system. I expressed doubt that he had much trade value. He disagreed. I was right.
  15. http://www.bleachernation.com/2011/12/29/lukewarm-stove-byrd-lidge-garza-jackson-wood-marmol-callaspo-marshall/ Given all the history, it makes sense that he'd happily sign with Hendry for well below market, but not be inclined to do so under Theo. It's possible that even the "gentleman's agreement" doesn't hold true anymore, which would be a shame. Oh well, it's just business.
  16. I feel like I'm at an Occupy rally. There are a dozen teams that had a higher profit than the Cubs, including the Dodgers, Pirates, and Padres. If you had 700 mil to invest where would you put it? They would have made more than 23 mil if they invested it in T-Bills. I didn't know the Cubs were a charity. Try as I might, I can't figure out just what the hell this means. Is that just another place where you'd feel out of touch and unpopular? I guess I can buy that.
  17. Just quoting that again in case someone missed it
  18. A Dempster salary dump would piss me off beyond all measure
  19. Nice, thanks for posting. I wonder if Al will ask about the new CBA and whether the front office saw something like this coming or if they were totally caught off guard. I'd also like to know how Tom plans on selling effing tickets next year, but I don't expect any hard-hitting questions.
  20. sorry Jake, but this statement really cracked me up The halcyon days of finishing 15 games out of first are OVER
  21. It wouldn't make much sense to commit 5 mil in payroll for next year just to get slightly better prospects in this deal. We could have spent that money in Latin America and come out ahead for it. Theo has said it before... it's just about trying to acquire assets. DeJesus is a good player who signed for cheap. Depending on what happens through the rest of this offseason and the next one, DeJesus may be able to contribute to a contending Cubs team in years 2 & 3 of his contract... failing that, he may very well be worth a small package of interesting prospects to a contending team. I suppose you're right, but I should have been more clear. Knowing that DeJesus was signed for 2 years, I was implying that it was a move looking to 2013 but on the surface, could be looked at as a cheap way to save face next year (aka, why would we trade Marshall/Garza/Soto for anything less than a good deal?). He most certainly is a cheap and useful asset, so I didn't want it as simplistic as "Cubs spent 4-5 mil extra to get a guy from the Reds' top 10 rather than top 25," but rather that Cubs signed a useful player in a dubious offseason to muddy the waters a bit and maximize trade value for guys who don't figure to be with us after 2012. I've now officially given this too much thought.
  22. Soto, too, but they'll never ever be on the same squad.
