  1. if he wants him to get rest, he just won't pitch him
  2. Optimism from a Brewers fan? Thanks! We just saw Cain, he won't fool us again. Cubs win 8-6. I hope you're right, but if Cain hits his spots like he did last time, he won't need to fool anybody.
  3. Gordon Wittenmeyer begs to differ. I beg to punch Gordon Wittenmeyer in the face
  4. I have very little doubt that pitch count was much lower back then, mainly due to the fact that people didn't K very much in those days. Ah, that works for me
  5. My original point was that pitchers are figuring out his technique. It used to be hed get 2 strikes, and then foul off a ton of them, and often draw a walk or a hit, or at least wear the pitcher down a bit. Now it seems in those same situations, once hes in foul off mode, they just throw something out of his reach and he'll chase. You're saying that before he would foul pitches off and than draw a walk, hit, etc. but now the pitchers are just throwing it out of his reach. Wouldn't that mean he would just take that pitch for a ball like you said he does before? I'm not sure why he is struggling of late. It's probably because it's something that major league players do every once and a while. I don't think the league has made an adjustment throwing the ball just a little further away from him because he has a really good eye and that wouldn't work. He would just take the pitch. No, he really does seem to bail pitchers out on 2-strike counts a lot lately. But it probably is just a prolonged slump. I'm not worried, yet.
  6. It's from an episode of Scrubs. Ah yes, thanks
  7. No, it's much, much different today. I didn't expect the GS to be at all different, but the difference in IP is HUGE. I'll bet if Zambrano was allowed to pitch 260-270 innings a season, his arm would fall off. The stats you posted totally fly in the face of your basic claim. Also, the argument you make about "expectations" and a lack of relievers is a tautology. The expectations were there because they had done it in the past and set a precedent, and the relievers weren't there because they didn't need to be. TT's thing makes sense. If it required considerably less effort to get guys out then guys' arms could weather a season of 60-70 more innings pitched. Still pretty remarkable, though.
  8. my fantasy team appreciates the hell out of him
  9. Or a hero who just came back to life only to have to face off against the villian responsible for his death
  10. I quit drinking pop once I got to college, and I haven't gone back since I graduated. Beer. P.S. Where's the Arnold Palmer quote from? I know I've heard it, I just can't remember what movie
  11. Can someone explain why pitchers in the 30s-60s could pitch on two days' rest and both ends of a doubleheader without breaking down? I'm looking at Cy Young's wins record on Unbreakable Records on ESPN and it seems like he and others back then were a different species or something
  12. Any of us who have to rely on EI to watch out of market games. What is that an abbreviation for? Extra Innings. At the risk of being really really [expletive], why wouldn't you just watch the game on Fox? Isn't there no other game up against it so won't it be televised nationally? Fox does multiple games and televises them regionally, based on previously determined markets. Even when I was in Milwaukee, I would get the Brewers game telecast over the Cubs game because of my market. Most people around the country only see about half of the Cubs games that we in Chicago see (those on WGN)
  13. Oy gevalt. Sound familiar, anyone? I just poked my eyes out
  14. PM a mod. Preferably Jon. sweet...i don't know who this jon is, but i will be on the lookout gracias He's the laziest mod around, no wonder you don't know him. So you're saying if we want something done, we should PM another mod? :D
  15. I didn't think anyone needed to be worried about Harang and Dusty's PAPs. I'll never underestimate him again.
  16. How about "GoAWay?"
  17. In fairness, the national media has talked just as much about how he hasn't been throwing his slider lately and has become a two-pitch pitcher. So you doubt that the national media is waiting for the chance to do the same?
  18. Knee-jerk much? The two moves won't do anything of the sort. It would be MUCH worse if Marshall were relegated to his previous LOOGY role as he wouldn't be stretched out once Marquis starts to royally suck again. Chillll ETA: There was really no doubt in my mind that Marquis would keep his job over Marshall. Obviously, Marshall as the #5 is a much better option, but given the choice between the two probable outcomes, I'll take this one 8 days a week
  19. Jim, I'm sorry I doubted your ability to work Billy Beane over in a trade. I can't believe I just said that
  20. Wait, what? You realize those numbers aren't even close to each other, right? Wow yeah Marshall's WHIP is Marquis/Zito-bad
