  1. That was the cheapest homer I've seen in some time. And that [expletive] only picked a ball up off the floor and gets his own [expletive] sideline special. Meanwhile, I have no video evidence of my barehanded grab in the upper deck. I do have a foul ball, though, so I still win.
  2. Those who don't want to sign Pujols long-term - realistically, how many 1B are going to be better and cheaper in 6 years? There's too good a chance that he's still a top-5 1B at that time, locked up by a team with some freakin balls, and finally playing DOWN to the value of his contract (I believe it was Fangraphs that had his actual production during his 7/100 contract with Cards to be worth like $280M total.) Yeah, he won't be worth $30M at ages 41 and 42. But all signs point to him being a STEAL for $30M/year in the front half of that contract. Sack up, Cubs, and make this happen. And fans, stop [expletive] on the chance to land a once-in-a-generation superstar because you have to pay him a little too much for a little too long.
  3. hell yes, chuck. What a great response. Classy guy.
  4. Well, I jinxed the [expletive] out of that one, didn't I?
  5. While the rest of us groan, a hundred bucks says NCCub just spit coffee all over his keyboard.
  6. Hey, maybe McNutt can complete a start today
  7. expletiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive.
  8. He does have the outside shot that most 'tweener 3-4s lack but the rest of his offensive game doesn't translate well to the NBA and he's screwed on defense. He wouldn't be a top 3 pick any other year. I do think Kyrie Irving is a top 3 guy in most drafts. Is he a consensus #1 this year? And where might Jimmer go?
  9. Looking at rings as an individual achievement in a team sport is pointless and short-sighted, no matter what the team sport is (even baseball, which is as individual as a team sport can be). You meant to say especially here, right? (Sorry for the minor gripe.)
  10. I'm curious how/when he gave you reason to believe that.
  11. Who needs to go more - Zook or Weber?
  12. Can you imagine the pressure of being drafted, showing up for minor league camp and trying to perform? The whole process of going through HS, college & the minors will weed out the guys who are "unclutch". That's a good point. Never really thought of that because I've never spent a ton of effort trying to debunk theories formed as a result of tiny sample sizes. Also, I disagree that being "unclutch" is any more likely/feasible than being clutch. They're both bogus analyst talking points used to fill space on a broadcast.
  13. Jonah Keri wrote a good piece on the new mold of LF like Fuld, Brantley, Gardner we're seeing a lot more of lately, echoing the same benefits you mentioned that said, we still have a glaring need for a power bat or two, which hopefully gets resolved in a big way this offseason via a FA 1B Hmm, sounds like you may have someone particular in mind
  14. If you're directing this at Mojo, I think you only have to go back like a page and a half for his answer to this question.
  15. Good God, those are 2002 Bonds numbers
  16. That was just as good as Derrick Williams', which was the best putback I've ever seen
