  1. Do you mean just like, home runs divided by total runs? That wouldn't be too hard to figure out. Cubs are 4th in HRs and 5th in total runs, so assume their ratio would be about league average, if that's what you're looking for.
  2. Remember all those stories from April and May about how every Cub starters' velocity was down from last year? This one in particular: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/whats-going-on-with-the-cubs/ Relevant paragraph below: The potential explanation I find the most interesting: This could be something the Cubs are doing on purpose. Two years ago, the Cubs advanced to the NLCS. Last year, the Cubs won the World Series. This year, the Cubs are expected to make another deep run, and they ought to take the NL Central without too much of a fight. Not that a team should ever take anything for granted, but just based on the rosters and the math, these Cubs ought to play more than 162 games. We’re looking at longer seasons, and shorter offseasons. More time spent pitching, and less time spent recovering. Wouldn’t it make sense to open the season by having your starting pitchers try to back a little off? Given the recent performance from Jake, Lackey, even Hendricks, you guys think there's anything to this?
  3. Banned Haha wasn't expecting you. Fluke groundball plus bad throw, then another ground ball. More bad luck.
  4. I love dongs as much as the next guy, but I do enjoy some versatility, where we don't need to flash dongs to still have a healthy day on offense. That's...not the right way to use 'versatility'. A home run is the best possible result of every offensive at bat. It's like playing blackjack and hoping to occasionally get 16s and 17s rather than 21.
  5. He's never going to have the pin point control he had in 2015, and when he tries to hit corners he's going to put a lot of guys on base and rack up his pitch count. If he can just trust that his stuff is still good enough to generate weak contact in the zone, even if he's not racking up Ks, he can still be a very good pitcher. Not close to 2015, but still very valuable.
  6. Maybe he should actually hurt, but if not, sure would have been nice to have Lester tough it out a couple more innings with a thin pen
  7. Stop horsefeathering sliding into first
  8. Cant wait to hear the meatballs go after him for taking himself out of a game just because he was having a rough inning. if he did that, that's not meatbally at all. Yeah taking yourself out in the second inning raises definite concerns. Everyone could tell it was a string of bad luck, hence the no mound visits and no one warming up. For him to say 'horsefeathers this game, horsefeathers the bullpen, I'm going home' isn't really that good of a look for a dude who has repeatedly been pissed about getting taken out in the past.
  9. Sort of did look like he tapped out. Which would be much better than an arm injury. Yeah, seemed pissed off at bosio for something. Not coming out I guess? Overall season performance aside, I don't have much problem with the way he pitched today. Just incredibly bad luck.
  10. Yeah, kinda seems like he just took himself out of the game. If so, happy he's healthy, but obviously not ideal. Side note: World Series heroics obviously, but I'll always love Monty for his apparent willingness to pitch in any situation, and pitch well.
  11. Like 5 players in the lineup tonight had a key hit in horsefeathering game 7 of the World Series less than a year ago, but yeah, screw these chokers.
  12. First class analysis right here. Explain how you practice this skill? And clearly it ages as Allen craig was a master one year and terrible at baseball the next, lending to the theory that maybe it's luck driven, but maybe you have it figured out? This is the same handwringing that went on last year with the "Cubs can't beat good pitchers crowd" and it's horsefeathering mind numbing Dude, just get your hits in a different order.
  13. What if every time we try to praise players (Sofa today with Willson, Duke with pretty much everyone else) they immediately turn to ass and it turns out Rondon Fan and all the other negative dorks last year were the key to our success and now this year We Got the Whole 9 is the key contributor?
  14. Well now that Willson can't walk it off there's no way we're winning this game.
  15. Why didn't Bryant hit the ball as well as zobrist did
  16. Lol at Javy not really sure what to do on a non-intentional walk.
  17. Not ideal. Whatever, will make it that much sweeter.
  18. This game is in a firm third place in my Cubs-Casino-Breaking Bad rotation.
  19. Let him get through this inning, and then add a couple more on before we get to a Davis-less and probably CJ-less bullpen
  20. I was going to be all like "they didn't; they traded Frazier" then I realized how bad their roster really is They have some OK bats in Abreu, Garcia, and Cabrera, but that pitching makes the 2012-2014 Cubs look like the Braves of the 90's. I was at the Sox game last night with a few Sox fan friends, and we came to the conclusion that there isn't a single player on their roster we'd trade straight up for Javy Baez, who is like our 9th most valuable player. Edit: This was before the Moncada call up.
