  1. 11th in bullpen innings going into today. A bit of a concern, but we seem to lean on different guys for stretches and are pretty deep overall, so hopefully no one hits a wall. Flip side of that is Washington, who has 12 less bullpen innings than any other team. Dusty gonna Dusty.
  2. A league minimum Adam Dunn playing average defense up the middle? Sure, seems useful to me.
  3. Per the couple tweets I saw, they said Rizzo was guilty of violating a rule, but no one has ever been suspended or disciplined because of it. Basically he would have been out based on the violation even if he was ruled safe at the plate (which he obviously wasn't). Let's hope San Diego doesn't do anything dumb. Even though he gets hit a ton and has never really had any ill effects, his low hands/wrists are always going to worry me in a situation like that, especially given that he's been carrying the offense for the last week or so.
  4. I don't even know/care if he is starting, I'm guaranteeing a Schwarber bomb on his holy day.
  5. Wait did you mean in the division besides us, which is possibly right, or in the division including us, which is [expletive] insane
  6. Is it totally meatball-y to say that in general baseball players coast along at like 70-80% effort in the regular season, and the Cubs, as world champs, are seeing everyone at 100%? As you can clearly tell, I'm getting to the desperate rationalization point.
  7. There's a good chance someone like Willson is so cocky he doesn't even think about stuff like this, but I feel like this game was huge for his confidence as a catcher going forward. Taking over for someone who had been a personal catcher for the last 2-3 years and having Lester pitch well, but not up to the standards of the last couple years, might have been weighing on Contreras a little bit. Good to see those two go the distance.
  8. Definitely missed any sort of discussion about this, but how long have game threads be members only? Was that a playoff thing?
  9. This has given the Cardinals a 2 1/2-game lead on the Cubs heading into Busch, and on Friday, they face a Triple-A pitcher in Eddie Butler, with Leake, their current ace. This is the first time in the new era of the Cubs-Cardinals rivalry, the world in which Chicago has a World Series championship (it still seems amazing to say that!) and St. Louis is trying to catch up, that the Cardinals have the upper hand. Good reasoning. To be fair, Leake inexplicably is pitching like an ace all of a sudden, or at least has an ERA like one Some team is going to even out that HR/FB rate. Let's have it be us.

  11. Found a live stream without any of the negativity:
  12. Ooooh, look, it's our resident bastion of positivity! Eh, I think he gets a pass today, given that 80% of the posts in here sound pretty similar to that one. This is not at all fun to watch, but I just can't bring myself to care too much. The offense is too good, the division is too bad, and we've got more than enough in reserve to trade for whatever holes we have. Plus, the whole World Series Champions thing.
  13. For no reason whatsoever, Justin Hancock sounds like someone who is better at baseball than what we got...26 year old double-A reliever with average at best peripherals. Guess we didn't have much leverage.
  14. Love the hustle from Willson, but after seeing the Eaton injury I'd be fine with him taking it a little bit easier.
  15. Speaking of velocity, Gameday has Chapman at 96-97. So either everyone is low, or someone is about to go Rajai Davis for us.
  16. Chapman cost Torres. Even if teams were blowing up pen value, I'd be shocked if Darvish doesn't net a top 10ish type prospect, plus more. We just won it all, let some other team get desperate for rentals. Fangraphs article today about the Cubs and Yankees could get into a bidding war for his services. Cameron said as long as we include Happ, he can't see another team beating our offer (if we were interested). I can see it both ways. No matter how you want to dissect the numbers, Darvish has been really good his entire MLB career (though susceptible to injuries). But, we won a World Series with 4 starters, all of which are still here, and Cleveland came within a game with 3 starters (2 of which were terrible). Assuming Lester, Jake, and Kyle are still pitching within expectations, even if Lackey takes a step back, I don't think it's worth the upgrade.
  17. We're on an 88 win pace with multiple hitters unsustainably underperforming. We might not have the dominant pitching we had all of last year, but 2017 is the year of the dong. We're going to be just fine.
  18. I think I'm good without his 5.20 ERA, and this is his good half too.
