  1. Fun with how credit/blame gets assigned: cubs bullpen this series: 8.2 innings, 3 ERs
  2. Watching that second out and weirdly realizing I’ll forever be haunted by that ultimately harmless foul ball hit by Jason Kipnis in the ninth inning
  3. I’ve never been as sure of anything as I am that tomorrows game will be a complete blow out one way or another. said another way: please can I just go to sleep
  4. Seriously his numbers are going to look so good tomorrow. OBP over .400, more walks than Ks, his xwOBA was .371 before tonight.
  5. Turns out exhausted bullpens are bad at pitching regardless of who is in charge of the dugout.
  6. Cubs are committed to making sure there are no more high leverage situations, one way or another
  7. Decent start. Would make one tweak. Your calc is the base metric, but the index gets a 2 point bump if you can answer ‘Yes’ to the question ‘do you have Devin Williams as a relief option’
  8. To be clear, you are trying to compare two managers and as part of your argument you are just making up theoretical suboptimal decisions for the guy you are arguing against.
  9. Are we just making up hypotheticals now to defend counsell
  10. Christopher morel has been worth -0.1 fWAR this year
  11. Yeah thank god CC is here to play the terrible defensive third baseman with a 691 OPS going into this game. Can you imagine where we would be without his leadership in this hypothetical comparison
  12. Not trying to be overly snarky, but what promises/who made them
  13. Just checked the PBP data of the three game series they just had. Possible I missed something.
  14. What are we trying to prove here, if the offense slumps come playoff time and only scores 4 runs a game and only goes 4-3 while somehow only playing road games, then we'd....potentially be in trouble? Alright, yeah, maybe!
  15. Right, which is another way of describing guys like Dylan Cease, Bobby Miller, and Merrill Kelly.
  16. I mean, you had first base open with two outs in a tie game in the bottom of the 8th. The only thing you should be worried about is getting the third out before the guy on second scores. Marte is a better hitter against LHP than Carroll, significantly (.724 OPS v .873 OPS, and a higher average (.303 v .272) since all you need is a base hit) based on the full body of information, not 31 PAs in 2024, and putting a runner on first base and giving yourself a force at any base makes it easier to record an out. Relatedly I will happily take any opportunity to point out the Cardinals being dumb, but unfortunately I don't think that's actually a true story. The only time I saw them change pitchers before a Carroll AB in the three game set they just had was when they pulled Mikolas (a righty) for Andre Vallente (another righty).
