  1. Worth pointing out (without doing the specific pythag there) that that the Cubs have an overall record of 15-8 in games started by those particular guys, because obviously it's leaving out Hendricks (et al). We can afford a lot more regression from a pitching staff that has given us a 106 win pace in their starts.
  2. Now that's the baseline expectation? We won 74 games in 2022, 83 games in 2023, and are on pace to win 94 this year, which you're either implying is lucky ('minor miracle') or you think they're even better than that (given all the injuries they've had to play through). Like, if this is just one of those 'Wrigley is a goldmine, Chicago is a major market, Tom is rich, we should be winning 100 games every year' complaint....sure, have at it. But (still) complaining about Soto or Ohtani in the middle of May with a first place team seems exhausting.
  3. You were bitching about how many games we scored less than 3 runs or whatever (assuming I'm not confusing you with someone else, apologies if so), which is a stat with little predictive value but one that I guess you thought fit your narrative, and then it was pointed out that outside of Atlanta last year, pretty much all the elite teams fell into similar ranges. Beyond that, I'm sure there was a ton of complaining because that's basically what the whole offseason conversation was, which is weird because I see us having picked up the best pitcher available for essentially pocket change, Bellinger for about $100m less than everyone else thought, and a starting first baseman with a 124 wRC with 5 years of control for two guys in the lower minors. But I guess it's all justified because Swanson and Happ have had a rough couple weeks, which has obviously tanked the team down to being tied for first place in the division.
  4. But that has nothing to do with your snarky 'but I was told' they were good in 2023. They were good. Sorry they scored less than 3 runs a few times and you don't like the fact that that's just a thing that happens to everyone in baseball now.
  5. Notice the goalposts moving on what we're going to complain about. The Cubs have gotten 9 innings out of their opening day starter, 15 games out of their best hitter, and their top offensive FA signing has also missed 14 games. Taillon (hey, maybe another good signing) has also missed significant time. We're on pace for 94 wins and now the complaint is 'well, yeah, we'll make the playoffs but probably only win one round'. Meanwhile everyone offseason was taking the 83 wins and subtracting like 12 or whatever as a starting point.
  6. lol ok. We were all obviously just making this up with no statistical support.
  7. Day offs are good and we're going to need all the rested arms we can get going into Jones/Skenes and then Atlanta. Days off are being 1 hit in a day game to lose a home series are very annoying.
  8. Not ideal for Cubs, but pretty cool in terms of being a baseball fan
  9. Just noticed 4 clean outs from Adbert. Would like to see some Ks but good to see him still attacking the zone and hopefully getting some confidence that not every time a pitch touches a bat it ends up over the fence.
  10. I thnk if Nico or Dansby ever had to miss more than a few games in a row, you'd probably see Vazquez up and starting the majority of the time. But I think otherwise they are currently prioritizing getting Vazquez every day ABs over whatever he might incrementally add as a (round numbers here) .300 wRC guy vs Madrigal as a .270 wRC guy.
  11. The guy with the lowest ERA in baseball was again dominant last night and kept the other team in check until our first baseman hit a walk off home run. Do they not count
  12. Stealing this from twitter but the three runs scored last night forced them to turn to Suarez for five outs and kept him out of the 9th inning tonight. Which is the kind of moral victory that I love in baseball.
  13. I was workshopping a Hot Take along these lines just in the sense of letting Bellinger get back to full strength at first base, keep PCA in the deep end (and contributing defensively), Busch being kinda useless if he’s not giving you an 800+ OPS. But it was probably too reactionary (was right after the botched pop up) and based a little too much on me desperately wanting PCA to figure it out.
  14. That’s who I was referring to, yeah
  15. 96 win pace for the first place Chicago cubs who have gotten like 9 innings out of their opening day starter and 15 games out of their (probable) best hitter.
  16. Does seem like every team has some dude in the lineup that's just completely, unreasonably on fire (Contreras for Milwaukee, Profar and his 950 OPS this year) and we have to settle for Mike Tauchman working 11 pitch walks to get excited about.
  17. Hahaha I mean, I was mostly kidding. One of us has been very on brand this thread, and it hasn't been me. We won the series against our main rival 48 hours ago.
  18. I mean, yes in the respect that both teams started May 3-3 and likely 3-4. Which isn't terrible, obviously. If they go 5-13 from here, I will have no other choice but to believe and expect all of your doom bonering going forward.
  19. Is there any benefit to doing it earlier?
  20. Because he fractured his left arm in a pretty nasty catchers interference.
