  1. lol get the horsefeathers out of here you weird Terrance gore wannabe loser
  2. -The cubs message board favorite player has a brutal error that leads to an early deficit that the team makes up through fun hitting and good bullpen work -well this one doesn’t count
  3. What part of his numbers are unacceptable to you
  4. Cubs are +500ish. Sox have lost every game for a while. It’s always kinda worse somewhere else.
  5. Define 'legit closer' though, right? With the caveat that they need to be on like, one of the 8 teams that is out of it and would be willing to trade away their guy. Reliever fWAR since the beginning of last year: Clase - Not going anywhere Tanner Scott - Rubber armed stud last year, 18 walks in 23 innings this year Hoffman - Not going anywhere Fernando Cruz - 34 year old who didn't debut until 2022 and has zero career saves Bednar - Been discussed a bunch, 6.17 ERA this year, which is mostly luck driven but still a definitive step back Hader - Just don't think there's an appetite for the remaining $85m or so on the contract Clay Holmes - not going anywhere Hunter Harvey - seems like a stud, team is going nowhere, not closing for them this year Strahm/Brash/Jax/Munoz - all good teams, not going anywhere Alexis Diaz - has been bad this year Robertson - not going anywhere Floro - good I guess? Doesn't scream 'legit closer', not closing for them, but all that just means cheaper tldr: It's not like there's a ton of these guys out there
  6. Yeah we aren't making up 12 games to the Phillies or 8.5 to the Dodgers, so we aren't getting a bye. There were probably some (wrong) Diamondbacks fans saying the same thing last year. Give yourself a chance.
  7. Agree conceptually that the Cubs have a lot of good hitters and probably no elite hitters, I honestly have no idea if that's a 'conceptual' problem (6-8 105-115 OPS+ dudes vs a couple 140-150 and then some scrubs). Having said that, both Bellinger (.909) and Suzuki (.938) were over .900 in the second half last year. It's there, we just haven't seen it.
  8. To the extent you think the Cubs are in 'Win Now' mode, Morel's defensive shortcomings are a serious issue that may eventually go away over time (and consistent, every day reps), which is something a non-Win Now team can afford to give him a lot easier, especially given the tons of team control he still has. The bat is legit and he's made serious improvements there, but if he's DH only at this point in his career he's a lot less valuable even when the actual offensive output starts matching the metrics.
  9. Since May 1 the cubs have had the 6th best bullpen in baseball by fWAR, first in K rate, 15th in walk rate, very bad BABIP and underperforming their FIP by about a run. Agree on needing to limit brown’s innings if we get back in contention and want him around in September/october, but think you can delay that decision another month and keep all the starters well rested (and willing to get an extra inning from them) without being terrified of a brown-less bullpen
  10. Just go 6 man for a while. Hendricks is basically a wasted roster spot, and nobody beyond shota, who prefers more rest anyways, has stood out enough demand starts over another. Keep them all stretched and wait for the inevitable injury.
  11. It sounds like there’s a pretty high likelihood that one of the rehabbing pitchers is hurt enough to push to the 60 man. But also madrigal, fine, whatever. More interested in what they want bote doing. The first base/outfield/DH platoon is pretty crowded with PCA and Happ seemingly locked in and seiya looking real shaky, so not sure it’s the best time to give up on morel at third. Can’t imagine a lot of situations where you’d rather have bote hitting over wisdom. Also could be an injury, who knows.
  12. Oh man I want PCA here one way or another. If the point is to be entertained just give me him in center forever.
  13. Sending Greene back out here seems pretty malpractice-y
  14. This is low key the best game to be at at wrigley
  15. Cool, fun, happy he’s been designated as our most important offensive dude
  16. Would love to hear why tauchman should be getting more PAs than Happ
  17. One of those start times where I’m going to be pissed all day it wasn’t a 1:20 start and then very happy, four beers deep, when it starts tonight. That’s assuming it happens at all, weather in the western suburbs looks like rain all day
  18. Man this one is going to hurt. lollll madrigal just for the story line
  19. Gomes would have definitely knocked him in with two outs, for sure
  20. If we're lucky, we can reuse this post in a couple weeks with a different name in there.
