  1. Blind player time! Player A: .255/.350/.450 .349 wOBA, .336 xwOBA, 128 wRC, -1.1 defense, 1.5 fWAR Player B: .239/.317/.464, .338 wOBA, .337 xwOBA, -7.7 defense, 1.0 fWAR Alonso makes $20.5m this year and is a free agent. Busch makes $741k and has 5 more seasons of control.
  2. Small dollar amounts here, but Shota gets a $4m raise (plus maybe a little more depending on CY votes), Dansby gets a $2m raise (I know what part of this post will get clipped), though that is offset by Seiya going down $2m.
  3. Very much agreed that if he continues to give up HRs on 23.1% of his fly balls, something no qualified pitcher has come close to doing going back to 2000, we should stop relying on him for anything.
  4. He traded for a top 100 prospect who is leading our team in offensive fWAR and is fourth at his position literally this past offseason.
  5. yeah we should definitely trade the starting pitcher with a 1.89 ERA who we have under contract for 4 more years after this in the name of getting a 'nice haul'. Then if we get really lucky and somehow someone from that turns into a legit ace pitcher but the team plays crappy baseball for 7 weeks, we can trade that guy away for another 'nice haul'. would be a fun cycle!
  6. Well one half of the fairy dust is in San Diego getting paid $90m, and the other half has been hurt all year but I’m sure will be back to shut us down at some point in the second half.
  7. I mean, Kyle Hendricks is your 5th starter right now. Do you want him to become your 4th? I had kinda hoped that, beyond normal leveling out of variance, the real pen upgrade would be a healthy/fully stretched out rotation. We saw the difference between April (terrible pen) to May (8th in fWAR) that just pitching a normal amount of innings makes a huge difference. And then I figured that Steele/Shota/Jameson/Wicks/Assad would let you push Brown to the pen, you'd have Horton not that far away, Almonte/Merryweather/Adbert have to come back at some point. But clearly just not going to happen for us.
  8. It’s that old Darren rovell tweet. ‘I feel bad for our country (cubs fans). But this is tremendous content’
  9. So we’re collectively absolving David Ross for everything last year right? anyways excited to see David bote instead of morel
  10. lol did marquee take the strike zone box off the screen
  11. Knowing how utterly preventable it all is makes this by far the most frustrating part of watching cubs games, which is saying something this year.
  12. Hm, how did he even do that with that scowl on his face
  13. Cubs relievers have the 6th best K rate, 7th worst walk rate.
  14. Thanks, I was being lazy and kept waiting for FG to update their numbers, which explains my weird mishmash of stats. Still though, I distinctly remember saying things like ‘how hard can it possibly be to find an 820 guy and teach him first base’ and it turns out…pretty hard! Also nice (in a bad way) that we’ll be paying him roughly $47 a year for a while.
  15. Was a nice recovery from morel there but it’s a pretty fitting time to mention that Matt Chapman would be leading the cubs in offensive fWAR
  16. Busch is a good example of how broken baseball in general is in that he’ll end tonight with an OPS probably just under .800, which my dumb baseball head thinks is like, the bare minimum of acceptability for a first baseman, but he’ll also end up essentially tied for 4th among all qualified first basemen for wRC.
  17. Heliot Ramos is doing something ridiculous like leading all NL outfielders in WAR even though he’s only played like 40 games.
  18. Bellinger with a garbage swing on 1-0 and then hitting the ball 215 feet didn’t help anything.
  19. The bonus outside corner that hicks got all last inning has seemingly disappeared
  20. Wait, you absolutely send him there right? If the fly out was the first out, sure. But he definitely had a better than…35% chance of being safe there.
  21. There’s some real tedious argument on if the ball is in the mitt or not
