  1. If we're supposed to be building asset value, then we need to be taking guys like them and getting them established in the major leagues. If all they do is play in AAA, they build no trade value and don't improve as hitters.
  2. I think we need to find a taker for Byrd for whatever we can get. I know we want veterans to set good examples and all that, but I'd hate to see Jackson, Sappelt or Szczur not get a chance to establish themselves right away.
  3. Soriano better save some of these for the season.
  4. Jackson Byrd Stewart Soriano LaHair Soto Barney Clevenger DH Lake Maholm pitching about as interesting (fun) lineup we can get. Edit: just realized Castro isn't playing, thought we were only missing Rizzo.
  5. Is Kevin Berardini really playing?
  6. i don't think it is. never bunting is just as bad as bunting too much. the threat of the bunt can open up wholes in the infield and if they play too far back we need to take advantage. this isn't some meathead rant, it's game theory and it can be very advantageous. Yep, that's what he said. Never, ever bunt. and i wasn't exaggerating to make a point.

  9. I just wish someone at BP had recently done a study on catcher defense.
  10. maybe this should go in the hitters thread, but Matt Garza will hit a home run.
  11. the comments are full of dumb.
  12. This is as good as any place for this. Max Marchi has written a couple of articles over at BP about catcher defense. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=16096 According to them it looks like Yadier Molina's defensive abilities a probably overrated because of how great his arm is. His arm saves about 10 runs over a season, but everything else is average. IIRC, he actually rates lower than Soto.
  13. we have davearm to keep us grounded.
  14. why am I watching this?
  15. Like Sulley needed any more ammo. http://btn.com/2012/02/10/big-ten-geeks-the-charity-stripe/
  16. galaxy s ii? yeah, sorry. i try to remember to erase that. you can go into your settings on tapatalk and turn it off.
  17. so will the Cubs switch back to the gatorade fountain machine?
  18. what a crazy ending.
  19. But it's still valuable. That doesn't address the issue that power is still useful and you should probably have it. All it's saying is that a weak hitting team shouldn't emphasize acquiring power more desperately than an already powerful team. But that's kind of pointless. Weren't people saying in this thread that we should ignore fielder's other faults because he supplies power which this team so desperately needs? This says we need good hitters, it doesn't matter how a player gets a wOBA of .380 only that he has a wOBA of .380.
  20. This seems like the best place for this. http://www.athleticsnation.com/2011/12/20/2636406/acquiring-power-isnt-more-valuable-when-a-team-has-none As the headline says power isn't more valuable when team lacks it.
  21. DAKOTA!!!!!!
  22. I may have spoke too soon.
