  1. Except 75% of the nation wouldn't be able to watch
  2. Maybe our Pythagorean W-L will be back to our actual record after today.
  3. He didn't say he loved playing the outfield. He said that he didn't mind it but highly prefers 2nd base. He said that the outfield at Wrigley is tough because so much is going on behind you that it's hard to focus sometimes.
  4. It really did look like they were about 1/2 the players England was. England had such pretty passing and the U.S. could barely control a ball in the air.
  5. That 1st Half was utter domination.
  6. The U.S. players all look like slobs with their shirts untucked. On a side note: Soccer players are total whiners.
  7. Should be a good lineup for Sean to face then, if his breaking ball is on. Gallagher should be able to keep the Dodgers in check if he can keep Pierre off the bases. Loney and Ethier may also provide a challenge, but if he can stay in on Loney and up and away from Ethier he should do well. I think this is a big key to tonight's game, especially if the wind is blowing in hard. Sean looked like he really got rattled when Michael Bourn kept getting on base, which I guess is to be expected during your first career road start. But if he can keep Pierre off the bases tonight, it should really limit the damage the Dodgers are able to do.
  8. I gave my tickets to my parents, I will feel bad if they drive here for nothing.
  9. Amazing out. On a side note, I just read a lot of the board from the past couple of days. Can we please get a win so people can stop being such bastards to each other? http://www.accuweather.com/forecast-hourly.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=1&zipcode=60290&metric=0 Could rain starting at 2. Accuweather is inaccurate usually, so hopefully they get it in It's better than weather.com in my experience. Try using intellicast.com It's what we used in South Bend for minor league game weather updates, typically was pretty good.

  11. So if you think catching routine fly balls and hitting HRs are even in terms of expectations, one play that results in 2 runs should be more valuable than another play that results in 1 run. They aren't even in expectations. One should be completed 99.8% of the time, the other 6% or so (estimating). EDIT: Whoops, hits...so 28% of the time.
  12. All he needs to do... ALL he needs to do, is catch a routine fly ball that he's caught 1,000 times before, and we're all celebrating. Yes, he hit the 2-run homer, but he also cost us the game, so that cancels out, don't you think? 2 runs > 1 run The difference is that he's expected to hit home runs. He shouldn't be congratulated for successfully doing the ONE thing he does well. He gets paid 18 mil a year, so he better hit home runs. Stop acting like it evens out, because it doesn't. So if Hoffpauir, making major league minimum, and hit a 2-run HR but dropped the same fly ball, he would have come out ahead? And I never said it evened out. I said he came out ahead. A player is expected to get hits sometimes. That's what they get paid to do. They're also paid to catch routine fly balls. Saying it's play to screw up a routine play because you did something else you're expected to do is silly. Actually, I believe all Jon is saying is the loss doesn't solely or even primarily fall on Soriano's shoulders. I'd say that any time a player drops a pop up hit directly to them to cause extra innings is the "primary" reason for the loss. Obviously not solely, but definitely primary.
  13. All he needs to do... ALL he needs to do, is catch a routine fly ball that he's caught 1,000 times before, and we're all celebrating. Yes, he hit the 2-run homer, but he also cost us the game, so that cancels out, don't you think? 2 runs > 1 run Not buying this argument in the least. 1 run > 2 runs? I'm confused. Not buying the argument that it somehow makes up for the fact he dropped a pop up to end the game, because it doesn't.
  15. This hitting the leadoff hitter crap is getting really old.
  16. Those Sori and Theriot AB's were as heinous as their lineup.
  17. The way the Chicago media has been talking the last couple of days, it's sounding like it would be a major, major surprise if the Bulls don't take Rose.
  18. That would be a ridiculous deal for the Bulls. That's about what Hinrich is worth, but getting him outta him would be much more valuable.
  19. These are some fairly ridiculous statements... 1) A sure 20-10 guy? Not so sure about that 2) Rose wasn't considered a top 2 pick? Rose was always considered a top pick, Beasley was not. If those two could have went straight to the NBA from HS, there is no doubt that Rose would have been picked higher (probably 3rd overall behind Oden and Durant) 3) Beasley was not the best college player over the last 10 years. Stats wise, close...but he played for Kansas freaking State. Kevin Durant laughs at your thought on that.
  20. Refreshing from the horrible days of Freddie Byumn, Neifi Perez, Jose Macias batting 6th, 7th, and 8th. Fixed. Or 2nd
  21. Ha! When Lou just got back in the dugout after visiting Dempster he said to Rothschild, "They're gonna boo me off the bleeping field"
  22. Estes got a W today so its only fair Peavy doesn't. Got to even out ...right???? Marquis beat Oswalt, I think last night was the evening out game. Crap. In 2005, the Blue Jays took the first 2 games of a series against the Cubs, and the Cubs had Sergio Mitre on the mound to avoid a sweep vs. Roy Halladay. Sweep right? No, the Cubs won. In 2007, the Cubs played the Diamondbacks, and the first game of the series, we had Brandon Webb going against Jason Marquis. We won. Potential sweep right? Nope, the Dbacks took the next 2 games. You end up staying for the whole game last night? I'm gonna give it one more go tonight, but 5 in a row is wearing on me this week especially with this crap weather. Hate to say it but I left after the bottom of the 7th. My roommates girlfriend was too cold and wet. Watched the end of the game at Goose Island while I dried off. Hopefully you have a better time tonight. At least it won't be wet tonight. Roommates gf was too cold and wet....yeah, you saw who I was with. She would have gamed it out, but actually we were all kinda cold and wet. Left with Laura after the 5th pretty much assuming they were going to tarp it. One perk of going to a lot of games, I don't feel bad leaving early if weather dictates.
