  1. Taking a quick look I'm surpised at Ching over Twellman.... Thats who I was missing. I was trying to figure out how the hell Ching made the team. I think the success of this team comes down to Onyewu, Dempsey, and Johnson. We have to finish first in our group. If we don't we're looking at a second round elimination at best because we'll surely have to play Brazil in the second round. The other key is not having a letdown against Ghana like we did against Poland in 2002. I'm not worried about us playing Italy and Czech Republic.
  2. If you auction the UNOPENED boxes you should do far better. People will spend far more for unopened boxes that may have the card. Go to a llocal card show and see what you can get. I wouldn't open them, let someone else pay you to take the chance for the card. You'll make far more than 80-100 bucks. But do it soon, while the publicity on the card is hot. Yeah, whatever you decide to do I would do it quick because like oldcubsfan said, do it while there is a lot of publicity. I would use oldcubsfan's strategy for one box. If you can make a lot of money selling the packs then do that, but if there isn't much demand then just open them yourself.
  3. Who "looks as though they aren't trying?" And don't mix up being a bad hitter for not trying.
  4. Just for an update, Hill is officially starting on Thursday.
  5. Don't watch -- you'll be better off in the end. What he said. I stopped watching at the all star break last season. My last game to watch this season? Well I'll watch Maddux pitch one more time, and then....we'll see. Look at it this way Is_pedro, if you watch Cubs games earlier in the day you would still lose sleep and probably have nightmares anyway, wouldn't you? Find something else to do. Take up knitting for example. Then at least you would have a scarf for next winter. I could try to say that I'm not going to watch them, but the truth is that I'm going to continue to watch them no matter what I say.
  6. Yeah, we sucked today. And for the past week.
  7. So do you want to call him "Tall Smooth" then? Yes. Fair enough. I just wanted to clairfy.
  8. I would open them up.
  9. As UMFan said, this does seem like more of an organizational problem than a problem with the philosophy of the hitting coach.
  10. I can't argue with those awards. No surprises there.
  11. I can't stand the Jimmy Fallon Pepsi commercial. I might be a bit biased because I don't think I've seen Jimmy Fallon do anything remotely funny ever.
  12. Maybe they are being truthfull and will actually tell their producers that Cubs fans are getting fed up with their crap, but I doubt it. They didn't even address your concerns/questions. They saw "Joe Morgan sucks" and feebly attempted to ease your pain. Weasels. If you wouldn't have put "Joe Morgan sucks" at the end of the email you probably wouldn't have even got any response at all.
  13. I highly doubt they will stop showing it. I understand why they would show it when we play the Marlins. But there is no reason to show it or talk about when we play any other team. Morgan and Miller spent five minutes talking about it during the Cubs-Cardinals game on ESPN on the first sunday of the year.
  14. Does anyone else think that if a pitcher makes an error that allows a runner on that he should be charged an earned run for that? I understand what an unearned run is, but if a pitcher makes an error it's his fault and you're letting him of the hook. For example, in today's Cubs-Pirates game, Novoa could have got out of the inning but couldn't pick up the ball and four runs ended up scoring that inning. All four were unearned and two were charged to Guzman and two to Novoa. All he had to do was pick up the ball and throw it to first base but he screwed it up. I think his ERA should show that because it was on him to make the play and he didn't have to rely on anybody else to make the play. Thoughts?
  15. Can somebody tell Jacque that he isn't a pitcher and he should throw the ball further than 60 feet in the air before it hits the ground?
  16. Damn, I didn't even realize he was still out there. This is a horrible, horrible decision. The guy is coming off arm problems, and you are gonna throw him out there for a 6th inning when he's already above 90 pitches!?! It's not like he's even pitching that great. yeah, but don't expect dusty to think about that. Which is why he has no buisness being the manager of my team if I were Jim Hendry. Well what choice do he have? The bullpen is spend as it is and our next day off is in two weeks. Glendon Rusch? Roberto Novoa? Anyone other than leaving in ANGEL GUZMAN. A guy who has had a bad history of injuries in the past and who I would prefer to be a large part of our future. You would really have Glendon Rusch come in to the game in that situation? Are you kidding me?
  17. So Z can get angry, break another bat over his leg, and injure himself? Let's just leave Z on the bench until he has to pitch.
  18. It's the bottom of the lineup. He was also over 90 pitches and hasn't been brilliant with those. He's also Angel Guzman, who's main concern has been not getting hurt. Pitchers spot is coming up first next inning which as I'm typing this leads to... the infamous Dusty Baker double switch. Should have seen that one coming.
  19. Our offense is REALLY hurting without Lee.
  20. Good job Jacque. Now that you've mastered the DP ball, why don't you try getting a hit or two.
  21. Right now Guzman's line looks very similar to Marshall's line from his second start: Guzman: 5IP, 4H, 4ER, 3BB, 7SO, 1HR Marshall: 5IP, 5H, 4ER, 1BB, 2SO, 1HR The only difference is more walks and strikeouts by Guzman. But the overall production is the same.
  22. I agree that the better talent is in Europe, but I would like to see our players give the MLS more respect. Is the MLS ever going to be as highly regarded as the top European divisions? Not in the short term. But we need to have a solid American league to develop players and hopefully in the long run we can build the MLS up to be competative.
