  1. Hopefully he'll recover fully and be up with the big league club soon.
  2. Time to post the games for Tuesday June 20. We will have the final group stage games for both Groups A and B. Here are the current standings: Group A Team W D L P GS GA GD Ecuador 2 0 0 6 5 0 5 Germany 2 0 0 6 5 2 3 Poland 0 0 2 0 0 3 -3 Costa Rica 0 0 2 0 2 7 -5 Ecuador v Germany 7 AM PT on ESPN Costa Rica v Poland 7 AM PT on ESPN 2 Both Ecuador and Germany have advanced. Winner takes the group but if they tie, Ecuador wins the Group. Poland and Costa Rica have been eliminated. Group B Team W D L P GS GA GD England 2 0 0 6 3 0 3 Sweden 1 1 0 4 1 0 1 Trinidad & Tobago 0 1 1 1 0 2 -2 Paraguay 0 0 2 0 0 2 -2 England v Sweden 12 PM PT on ESPN Paraguay v Trinidad & Tobago 12 PM PT on ESPN 2 England have advanced and Paraguay has been eliminated. England wins the group with a win or a tie. Sweden wins the group with a win but will advance with a tie or a loss and a Paraguay victory over Trinidad & Tobago. Trinidad and Tobago must win and have Sweden lose to England (not sure on the specifics with the tiebreakers) to have a chance to advance.
  3. Lou Piniella is not the answer and this isn't a team that can just be turned around with one move. We aren't the Marlins in 2003 or the Astros in 2005. The Cubs aren't going to contend this year no matter what moves they make.
  4. Any word as to how long the delay is expected to last?
  5. Hold your applause please.
  6. Too bad the Pirates keep sabotaging this BandWGN from going anywhere.
  7. I think it was all a matter of time. Based on their philosophy of letting some of their better players go via free agency that eventually they were going to fail to win the division. I don't think that the Atlanta Braves will finish in last place this year, but I don't think they'll win the division anymore. Who knows, I might be wrong though.
  8. only if they are filled with pointy hard objects And anthrax.
  9. I picked the Braves to win their division solely because it was the Braves. My thought's coming into the season were: Braves Cardinals Padres Red Sox White Sox A's My only clunker of a pick was the Braves. Although you could have picked a team out of a hat and not made a bad pick for the NL West so far this year. Coming into today the last place teams (Colorado and SF) were 2 games out of first.
  10. Teams that have advanced thus far: Group A: Ecuador, Germany Group B: England Group C: Argentina, Netherlands Group D: Portugal Group E: (none) Group F: Brazil Group G: (none) Group H: Spain
  11. You could ask questions about the goalkeeping. What else did you want the keeper to do on the second goal? Also, I fixed Fernando Torres' name. EDIT: Just saw a replay and I'm not quite sure what the keeper was thinking. Nevermind.
  12. Iffy penalty kick call that could have gone either way. Spain now leads 3-1.
  13. the Atlanta Braves are in last place in the NL East. I think it's safe to say that this is likely the year that the streak of consecutive division titles ends.
  14. And yet we still aren't on pace to have the worst record in the NL. Thanks a lot Pittsburgh.
  15. Didn't Curt Schilling post there when he was traded to the Red Sox before the 2004 season?
  16. Nice goal by Frernando Torres and an awesome pass to get him the ball.
  17. And Spain with the equilizer as Raul "puts a bulge in the old onion bag."
  18. I would just like to apologize for this game thread. The baseball gods obviously were ticked off for something I posted and punished me and the Cubs accordingly.
  19. The Pirates lost again. They must really want to hang on to last place. Any Pirates fans here that can confirm this for us (the wanting to hang on to last place part not the losing part)?
  20. Spain is dominating the possession 65-35. I doubt this game will end 1-0, whether that means Spain breaks through or whether Tunisia gets another one, I'm not sure. But I doubt we've seen the last of the scoring for the day.
  21. I don't think it becomes relative for a while. There are 11 other team that have longer World Series droughts than the Cards including 6 teams that have never won a World Series. Link via Wikipedia One drought that not many people know about is the Giants who haven't won a World Series since 1954 and have never won a World Series in San Francisco. I was talking to one of my friends that is a Giants fan a couple years ago and he brought out the 1908 card but 50 years is a long time. Like somebody else said, with 30 teams in MLB now it does become harder to win. There are currently 15 teams with droughts of 20 years or more and that will become 16 unless the Mets win the World Series this year.
  22. At least the Braves won a World Series though. I understand that it is only one and they should have won more, but they did win one.
  23. And Tunisia strike in the eighth minute and go up 1-0 on Spain. On a side note, Tommy Smyth in announcing this match.
  24. Ukraine goes up 4-0. I have to say, it's not very often that you see a team lose their first game in the World Cup 4-0 and then come out and win the next one 4-0. For that matter a three goal differential comeback is probably rare as well.
