  1. Yes, this. I don't understand everyone saying "thankfully - finally he can go to AAA and get ABs." What? The guy earned the right to start over hacks like Floyd and Jones last year. He's 25 and just hitting his peak. He shouldn't have to go to AAA to get ABs. He should have been in LF from day 1, put him in the 2-hole, and go to work. right but the cubs have proven that they won't do that, so the next best thing is for him to go down to iowa and actually play. In a perfect world, the Cubs would have competent management and this wouldn't be an issue, but given that Hendry/Piniella are morons, Murton to Iowa is the best-case scenario. I completely agree. The options here don't (realistically) include Murton playing everyday at the ML level. Unfortunately, that just isn't happening. So it's better for Murton to play every day at the AAA level then it is for him to sit on the bench and occasionally play and occasionally pinch hit at the ML level.
  2. Option 1 - Shop them like a madman, hope we get midlevel prospects in return. No team in baseball is desperate enough or pessimistic enough to take on the trade until the deadline though, so we have to put up with them for another 6 weeks in the hopes that the prospect we get in return pans out. There is also the risk that there are no takers, making the wait completely worthless instead of only mostly worthless. Option 2 - DFA them both now. Six less weeks of putting up with them, and prospects that already have proven they at least deserve a shot get said shot. I think you're onto something there. I don't know about you but I don't really care if the prospect pans out. As long as it means either of the two is gone, that's enough for me. I will say that I'm much more eager to get rid of Jones solely because his contract includes the 2008 season. While it's possible that Hendry will, for some unknown and likely stupid reason, pick up Izturis' option for 2008, it isn't a lock. We KNOW Jones has a contract for 2008. If given a choice I would get rid of Jones over Izturis immediately. That and the fact that we have a more talented clone of Jones in Cliff Floyd.
  3. Only if it gets called after the first inning.
  4. Well.... it's better to be pissed off than pissed on, no? An excellent point, Fred.
  5. Ha! When your two players get into it in the locker room as well and one of the players has to go to the hospital afterwards, then you come talk to me. Until then, keep your minor tifs to yourself. Note: Directed at the Astros, not you, sunnydoo.
  6. Well, nobody said the Phillies are smart.
  7. The same reason teams still pitched to Bonds a couple years ago: stupidity.
  8. Well, Dusty can rot in hell.
  9. Maybe the Cubs just aren't good in general.
  10. http://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=6337 This would be all kinds of bad.
  11. Biggio should get in. If he gets 3000 hits, he'll be a first balloter, if he doesn't , he might not be a first balloter but he'll get in.
  12. No Soriano and no Ramirez would be ugly.
  13. I think run expectancy charts are from the situation forward. So whatever happens prior to loading the bases doesn't really matter. I could be wrong though. It is from that point forward.
  14. Sulley just turned me on to him. I don't think I've ever been this in love in my life. I've downloaded everybit of El-P, Company Flo, Aesop Rock, etc etc I can find. The Overly Dramatic Truth might be the best song ever. I've always meant to download some of El-P's stuff. I just never remember when I actually am at home and can.
  15. I DRIVE A DODGE STRATUS! LOUD NOISES!!!
  16. I have to admit that I was a bit (well maybe more than a bit) ignorant when I first joined the board. I remember having an discussion with a couple people about Kerry Wood where I argued that Wood wasn't that great because he never got 15 wins a season. I was like a child that wandered into the middle of a movie. But I have seen the error in my ways and now I would never dare make that argument. I actually went back and read some of my early posts. Boy were some of them stupid. I almost slapped myself for some of them. Was that a Big Lebowski reference I just caught? Nice. That it was.
  17. I'm going to be all kinds of pissed off if the Cubs don't win this game.
  18. Stupid Brewers, had to go and win.
  19. Just wanted to say that this line, by itself, taken in complete isolation, made me laugh until my face hurt. Seriously, can't stop laughing. That is a pretty hilarious line.
  20. I'd like to see what Heath pearce can do. Doesn't Bob Bradley have some sort of irrational hatred for Pearce? Hopefully he'll play in Copa America and impress, because a good team would absolutely abuse Bornstein. yep. Pearce said he's "the best left back the US has," which is kinda big-headed, but Bradley apparently really didn't like it, because he thought it was a direct slight at Bornstein. When/where did he say that? Just out of curiosity.
  21. I'd probably go with B with the exception of the hate part. I'll freely admit that I don't like the condescending tone but I enjoy reading what you have to say because you have intelligent things to say. If you were an idiot and condescending that would be completely different. The content of your posts more than makes up for the tone.
  22. It's not over yet. I need 5 more to tie you. If I jinxed myself into losing I'm going to inject heroin into my forehead Will you do it on Jim Hendry's doorstep?

  24. CUBS WIN!!! CUBS WIN!!! Another great start from Sean Marshall.
