  1. I think we need at least three more invitations. chat/flashchat.php Join us in Flashchat.
  2. Flashchat, it's what all the cool kids are doing!!
  3. Not necessarily. If he's under contract you're going to have to give up a hell of a lot more to get him. It might cost you more money to sign him as a free agent but you aren't going to have to give up the prospects/players required to get that player. And for a team with a ton of money (Boston or both New York teams) I would think losing your prospects matters a lot more a couple million each year.
  4. He'll only be a sacrificial lamb if he sucks tomorrow. If he pitches well, he won't have to worry about being sacrificed.
  5. I'd like to hear any arguments in favor. At the moment, I can't think of any. I'd hate to see baseball end up in the same mess as the NBA, with a postseason lasting months on end, so that by the time the championship series has started, I have all but completely lost interest. Agreed. That's the one thing I hate about the NBA is how the postseason is essentially a second season. Soooooooo long.
  6. This is just stupid. Why would you want to sign a guy - a very good player, to boot - to a four year deal and then trade him in the first couple years of his deal? I could understand not wanting to give it to him for the last couple of years (if that was possible but in this case it obviously isn't) but not for the first year or two. If you plan on trading him, either trade him now or just let him walk at the end of the year.
  7. It's adding salary in the sense that they'd be paying both him and his roster replacement. They'd be paying two players for one roster position. And the replacement would be leage minimum which is what the Marlins were picking up. Not necessarily. It could be - and considering he's the 24th or 25th man right now, it's probably likely - but it might not be. But I agree with you. Considering that's likely to be the case, this was stupid not to deal him.
  8. Can Bud Selig just retire already? I can't believe he's really considering this. I take that back. I do see why he's considering this. He's an idiot.
  9. You might be looking a bit too far ahead. I never said for the Cubs. If I do remember correctly, the best records get to start the playoff threads. I'm pretty sure that's only for the Cubs. The other games go to whoever starts them first. I went 0-2 starting Cubs game threads last year and I started some playoff game threads.
  10. Probably because that's the only Cubs off day between July 13 to August 12.
  11. Marquis absolutely has to go 7 innings today. Nothing less will do.
  12. Watch. When Marquis gets the first out, it will be a such a relief. Rich Hill got the first guy out yesterday.
  13. I would definitely be more ticked if the Cubs just choked a way a lead to end the losing streak.
  14. I'm guessing you're looking at ESPN.com and they've gone crazy. It's going to be a four game series with one makeup game - the missed Sunday game because of Hancock's death. I'm not quite sure on which day the makeup game will take place. Cubs.com has it taking place on Saturday while yahoo.com has it taking place on Friday. Looking at it closer, it looks like ESPN combined those two schedules. They took the double header on Friday, kept what I assume to be the regularly scheduled game on Saturday (4 PM ET) and added Saturday's double header on cubs.com (1 PM ET and 8 PM ET). Regardless, it's only going to be a 4 game set.
  15. Well good thing I have to go to work. Here's hoping for a great Marquis start tomorrow. Lord knows the pen is going to need it.
  16. he's not a big league pitcher. once mlb teams get a book on him they can hit him. rich hill is learning that lesson He started 24 games last year and has started 7 this year. It's not like this is his fifth career start. I would think teams have seen him enough already to have a book on him.
  17. Looks like the Cubs won't be able to win the series until tomorrow.
