  1. ... with 15 walks. So he's been on base 21 out of his last 48 plate appearances. Sure does look a lot nicer when you include that, doesn't it? I should have clarified a bit more to what I was talking about. I was referring more to how he was swinging the bat. I know he's still got the walks and wasn't dismissing it. But his actual swings didn't look very good in that stretch and he wasn't making good contact.
  2. Will Ohman splits: vs righties: .304/.355/.464/.819 vs lefties: .224/.308/.379/.687 I'm assuming you still have Ohman's wonderful outing against the Phillies on Thursday fresh in your mind and that is why you want him gone. Here is who Ohman faced on Thursday: C. Roberson - switch A. Nunez - switch C. Coste - righty C. Ruiz - righty J. Werth - righty T. Iguchi - righty J. Rollins - lefty Now, if you bring in a lefty, you know that Roberson and Nunez are going to hit right handed, i.e. the type of hitters that Ohman struggles against. Now, I'm not taking all the blame off Ohman in that situation because he still allowed the hits but there is no reason that he should have been brought into the game in that situation. And that one is on Lou. That being said, I don't like the idea of having a pitcher on the roster who specializes in getting guys out who bat from one side of the plate but struggles against guys who bat from the other side. It's just not worth it, IMO.
  3. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/images/fan_forum/y2007/ads/800x600_cws_contreras.jpg Funny that the guy in that poster has an excellent chance of losing 20 games this season. Really, how many guys have lost 14 games in JUST FOUR MONTHS? Is Kip Wells even that bad? Nope. Kip Wells only has 13 losses.
  4. Please. Give them respect where it's due. It was four weeks.
  5. anybody who plays catcher for the cubs Jose Macias?
  6. Its only the 2nd inning, very possible he breaks it tonight. True. If he doesn't tonight, he'll sit out tomorrow though he usually sits out Sunday games anyway.
  7. Tickets for Monday's game are going to sell like crazy. My editor and a few of his friends have season tickets for the Giants. For the Saturday game of the Marlins-Giants series last weekend when Bonds was stuck on 754, the guy in the group sold his pair of $37 tickets for $125 each.
  8. I don't know if anybody saw this but Cesar Izturis is batting leadoff for the Pirates tonight. Yes, that's right, leadoff.
  9. Well, he couldn't be much worse than Kip Wells or Anthony Reyes have been this year. Mike Maroth says hi. 5-6 6.67 ERA 45 k 46 bb 1.79 Whip, and that was before tonights .2 innings 5 hits 5 runs 2 ER and 1 HR. Good one. I forgot about him.
  10. Well, he couldn't be much worse than Kip Wells or Anthony Reyes have been this year.
  11. Fortunately, the opposite is true for the Brewers on the road. Any Brewer lead under 6 isn't safe.
  12. Game over, Brewers win. Oh well.
  13. I hate you Prince Fielder.
  14. He didn't look very good this past weekend against the Marlins in AT&T park. EDIT: He really hasn't looked too good since the 2 HR game against the Cubs a couple weeks ago. He's 6-33 with 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI since then.
  15. You've got my vote as well. You're a lock for the top 10.
  16. Thoughts? http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070802&content_id=2125494&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc I wouldn't say that I'm confident in him every time he goes to the mound, but he's definitely improved significantly. I knew the whole "never" thing was an overreaction. I don't know about you but I still have no desire to see Eyre in the game. I have no faith in a guy who's WHIP is 2.02. I know he's pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings in 8 appearances but he's walked a batter in 7 of those. He's still the last guy I want to see come into a close game.
  17. The game where the Cubs allowed 5 runs in the bottom of the ninth to the Mets.
  18. This game pisses me off even more than yesterday's.
  19. Cubs are destined to lose two of three now.
  20. Well, the Cubs have to win the next two games. No excuse for a playoff team going 3-4 on a homestand.
  21. This is just comical at this point.
  22. Good freaking lord what is wrong with our pitchers in the ninth inning. Ohman blew any chance we had yesterday - and I blame Lou for that one because there's no reason Ohman should have been brought in to face a bunch of righties - and now Dempster kills us today.
  23. BS You can't walk 11 guys and expect to win any game at any level. The Cubs pitchers didn't give up that many legitimate walks...that's the point. Maybe a couple are on the ump. That still leaves 8 or 9 that are on Cubs pitching which is horrendous.
