  1. Some lame tiebreaking rules in the Women's World Cup. Sweden and South Korea finished tied for second place in Group B with four points but South Korea advances in second place because of a better goal differential (+1 to -1) even though Sweden beat South Korea today 2-1. Lame.
  2. Both the Brewers and Cubs have 72 losses so one more loss from each team guarantees Andy wins the bet. Well, actually one team would have to lose two games if you count the one game playoff that would happen if both ended with 73 losses which would mean one team would end 90-73.
  3. I wouldn't count on that at all. Philly is making a run, and the WC is getting really tight. The Pads may have to fight for it. Plus they are only 1 game behind Arizona - and have the same number of losses - in the race for the NL West.
  4. Because doing that would just make way too much sense.
  5. I've found that one thing that helps pass the time on gamedays is sleeping until it's only four hours before the game. There's not as much time to wait after that.
  6. Brewers win eleventy billion to two.
  7. I'd definitely be in favor of bringing back margin of victory as long as it has a cap and the quality win bonus should absolutely be brought back. It was stupid that they got rid of the quality wins. It depends on what qualifies as a quality win. And for margin of victory if it's say 30 and you win a game 29-0 and don't score 30 because of a missed extra point, I don't see how that's any worse than a team that wins 34-3. I just don't see how you can look at a final score like those and judge them as one being better than the other. I still think you should break the whole game down mathematically and divide into a series of points and not just go by the final score. The quality win thing they used to have in the BCS was if you beat a team that was (I think) in the top 15 of the BCS standings you would have points taken off your total. You would have 0.1 taken off for beating the 15th ranked team, 0.2 taken off for the 14th, and so on until 1.5 for beating the top team. In addition to that, the points would change each week based the ranking of the team that you beat. Let's just say that Team A is ranked No. 1 and Team B is ranked No. 2. Team A beats Team B and Team B drops to No. 5 in the rankings. For that weeks BCS rankings Team A would have 1.1 taken off of its BCS ranking. But the next week, Team B loses again and drops to No. 12 in the BCS. That would mean Team A would only have 0.4 taken off that week. Conversely, if Team A beats Team B early in the season when Team B is unranked, they wouldn't get any points. But if Team B wins a bunch of games and rises into the BCS rankings then Team A would have points taken off according to Team B's ranking.
  8. I didn't wake up until after 1 today and missed almost all of the Liverpool-Porto game. I'll have to set my alarm for tomorrow's game.

  10. In the 6th inning of Monday's Giants-Diamondbacks game, Ray Durham drew four balls but nobody realized it and he flew out on the next pitch. It doesn't have it on the GameDay pitch-by-pitch but they just showed it on SportsCenter and I watched the replay on MLB.TV and he definitely draws four balls. Gameday lists the pitches as Strike, Ball, Ball, Strike, Ball, In play, out(s). But it actually went Strike, Ball, Ball, Strike, Ball, Ball, Fly out. Anybody else see this?
  11. I've been to one Z game and he gave up a 2-run HR to Matt Cain. I was this close to permanently blocking that game from memory. Stupid Z :x Just remember Tuesday and Wednesday's games (of that Giants series).
  12. wow. Did you get a chance to see him in the playoffs? I got to see him in Game 5 of the Sacramento-Salt Lake series. He struck out the side in both the seventh and eighth innings - allowed a single in the eighth - and then had a perfect ninth inning. His stuff was wicked.
  13. i'm as big a morelli basher as anyone, but he's been pretty good this year. 8 TD, 1 INT, 63% completion. he can go all grossman on you under pressure, but let's not paint him as some horribly incompetent QB He's had to face the defensive powers Florida International, Buffalo and Notre Dame so far this year. And he had a 54.5 comp% with a whopping 131 passing yards against ND. Last year he had a comp% of 53.9 for the year and had only 11 TD's in 13 games. He had 0 TD passes in 6 of their 13 games last year. Do you know how many TD passes he had against UM, UW, and OSU last year? 0. There were 88 other quarterbacks in Division I-A with a better QB rating last year than Morelli had and 71 QB's with more TD passes than he had. And I'm going to guess that Morelli is going to be under a hell of a lot more pressure from Michigan's defense than he was under in his first three games this year.
  14. I've been to one Z game and he gave up a 2-run HR to Matt Cain.
  15. Holy crap. I left to go to the store for some food when it was 4-4 and got back just after the game had ended. Also just watched the ninth inning on MLB.TV and listened to Pat and Ron's call of the ninth. Amazing.
  16. I just listened to that song 15 times in a row on my ipod...(followed by "when the Cubs go Marching in"...my wife thinks I need help... :D you do, that song sucks Oh...Zip it!! Buzz kill. Does anyone know where you can listen to that song online? I know I've done it before. http://www.uploadhut.com/id26525/Steve_Goodman-Go_Cubs_Go.mp3 You actually have to click on the link. Then about halfway down the page you'll enter a security code after a couple seconds. Then wait a couple more seconds and you'll click on the download button and can save it to your computer.
  17. Might as well have. Given how he's hitting lately, bunting might be the right move no matter the inning. I don't care how poorly somebody's hitting, unless you're a pitcher, there's no reason to sac bunt in the 1st inning. I could kind of understand if you're trying to avoid the double play, but Soriano was on second so that wasn't going to happen anyway.
  18. Nothing like stranding a leadoff double. New day, same Cubs.
  19. Talk about getting fooled.
  20. Michigan's defense held Notre Dame's offense to fewer total yards than Penn State did. Michigan's offense also looked better than Penn State's offense did against Michigan. And yes, I think Ryan Mallett is a better QB than Anthony Morelli. Just because he's a freshman and is only starting his second game doesn't mean he's a worse quarterback. It just means he hasn't started as many games in college. In addition to that, Mike Hart >>>>> Austin Scott and Mario Manningham is a better WR than anybody on Penn State. Michigan has a better offense and the defenses are probably comparable with Penn State's being a little better but not enough to make up for the gap in the two offenses. Like I said, Michigan will win this game.
