  1. Wait, we’re allowed to not give up runs in the first? Interesting.
  2. Sure, don’t wear sunglasses on a day game.
  3. Fun facts: Terrance Gore has never gotten a hit in the majors. He’s 0-11. He did walk once and got hit by 2 pitches so he’s got a .214 OBP. He has scored 14 runs in the majors. He has 21 career stolen bases. He has a career OPS+ of -34.
  4. Tommy might not be our best PH option even if he's the only position player left on the bench.
  5. The Astros are only 1.5 games up on the A's and that could drop to 1 game if the A's hold on tonight.
  6. Much like the Cubs, my game thread starting abilities peaked in 2016 so sorry in advance. I usually post Fred stats as my game thread starters but that hasn't worked out too well this year. Cubs don't need to win this one but it sure would be nice if they did. GO CUBS!
  7. Remember when we all gave up on the 2016 Cubs when they went 8-15 with a -26 RD from June 18 through July 10? That season sure amounted to nothing.
  8. Quintana was at 71 pitches, there was nobody on and one out. Just leave him in.
  9. Good thing we have the big hitting Seal Boy batting 5th.
  10. 90 wins would mean going 30-13, a 113 win pace 88 wins would mean going 28-15, a 106 win pace 86 wins would mean going 26-17, a 98 win pace While they do have 9 games against the Phillies left, they only have 3 against Atlanta. So unless they get really hot against everyone, they have to sweep Atlanta and go at least 6-3 against Philly and hope 86 wins takes the division. They needed 3 of 4 against Atlanta last week but could only get the split.
  11. I bet Dusty is a big fan of the Braves' broadcast: [tweet] [/tweet]
  12. How do you leave then? I would understand if they left after the single in the ninth made it 3-0. But if you're staying for the rest of the top half plus the start of the bottom half, how can you leave with the tying run at the plate?
  13. We care about the Cardinals? Well if we lost tonight they’d be 4.5 back and they are one of the hottest teams in baseball. Deserves to be in the back of our minds at least even if it’s unlikely they continue to play like this If they stay hot over the next two weeks (Nats and Brewers at home followed by Dodgers and Rockies on the road), I’ll get worried.
  14. So this was a decent throw. [tweet] [/tweet]
  15. Funny that you used 2006 Red Sox. On Aug 11 they were 66-48 and 0.5 out of a playoff spot. They finished 86-76 and way out of the playoffs. To be fair on that last point, there wasn’t a second wild card then and it might only take 88 wins for the second wild card. On pace, right now the second wild cards are Milwaukee (90.5 wins) and Atlanta (89.5 wins). Each division has 3 decent teams that all have a lot of H2H games left so that’s unlikely to change much.
  16. Have you been watching? He watches games solely to declare them over the first time something good happens for the team he wants to lose. Surprised he didn’t call “Ballgame” when the Brewers scored in the top of the first.
  17. I always love on those plays that they expect the batter to essentially run in foul territory yet the base is in fair territory. Like they won’t let you run right to the bag.
