    Theory: most starters like to start a game with a strike. There is a high likely hood the first pitch of the game will be a FB Now heres the kicker: Almora happens yo be offensively good at one thing: hitting fastballs Proposition: tell Almora to swing at the first pitch he sees while leading off I don’t think you have to tell Almora to swing at the first pitch. He does that plenty well enough on his own.

    I was shocked when you said it was over yesterday and didn't believe it. You just doubled down, so now I do. Welcome. I don’t plan on staying this way long, I’ll be back to believing in them come the WC game and next year. Just this team has a funk on them right now and I don’t think we can shake it in time. Plus we’re fully following the Theo era Sox (if you start our run at 2015) Year 4 was a disappointing season. For the Sox that was missing the playoffs and for us it will be losing in the WC game. The good news is Year 5 is another World Series!

    Only team that’s been held to 0 or 1 run more than the Cubs this year is the Orioles.

    Cubs are 10-11 since this thread was started. Cubs were 5 games up when this thread was started, now they're 0.5 up. Cubs were 93.2% to win the division when this thread was started per Fangraphs, now they're 65.2%. Cubs were 10.2% to win the World Series when this thread was started, now they're 7.7%. Cubs have scored 0 or 1 runs 7 times in 21 games since this thread was started. Clearly we know what the problem was. Only solution is for IMB to start a panic thread where he declares that he was right, Duke was wrong, the Cubs are trash and they will lose every game the rest of the way.

    At this point we probably want the Dodgers to win. Don’t want them in a wild card game. Dodgers lose on a walkoff so they're a 1/2 game up. Rockies have the game in hand.

    If/when the Cubs clinch a playoff spot they should all get drunk that night. Maybe being hungover will help them play better. Certainly can’t make it any worse.

    Yeah but nothing surprising about that. We have a below average offense led by a hitting coach actively trying to destroy it. Anyone can shut us down and many will Nope. We get to face Mikolas and Flaherty. The Brewers have been very fortunate on pitching matchups. That’s probably good for us. We tend to win games started by good pitchers.

    Oh, man, that just means we are going to be playing a desperate team that needs to pull out all the stops against us. The way our season is going, if you told me we could end St Louis’s season for the third time in four years, but wouldn’t win the division and would either lose the WC game to the Rockies or to the Brewers in the LDS, I’d probably take it.

    On the plus side, the Rockies are up 8-1 so if the results hold, the Cards will be half a game out.

    Probably the medical staff. PTR had to cut back So some people had to double up jobs.

    So we’re definitely falling to a WC spot and then we’re going to lose to the Cards, right? That seems like the fitting way for this horsefeathering season to end.

    If it’s 0.5 after tonight I lean towards no just because of the schedules. If it’s 1.5 I think we at least tie. If it’s 2.5 then yes we win the division. If it's 2.5 after tonight I will run down the block naked. There will be no proof. You will just have to take my word for it. Oh that’s definitely not happening. Just figured I’d include it in case the Pirates just let us take our last 15 outs all in one inning.

    Sorry Len, the only crooked number the Cubs are putting up tonight is if the scoreboard guy was hanging out with Joe before the game and hangs the 1 at an angle.
