  1. Beltran’s hiring made me look at the 2006 playoffs and holy hell was the NL bad that year. The Mets had the best record at 97-65. Second best record in the league was the Padres at 88-74. Only two teams in the NL won fewer than 71 games that year - the Pirates at 67 and Cubs at 66. Only 6 teams out of 16 were over .500 that year and two of those won 83 and 82 games. In interleague that year, the AL went 154-98 for a .611 winning percentage, easily the best of any year (2nd was .591 in 2008 and 3rd was .563 in 2012). Only two NL teams had winning records in interleague and one of those went 8-7. Only 4 of the 14 AL teams had losing records and the worst of those (7-11) would have been middle of the pack in the NL.
  2. [tweet] [/tweet] The man has good taste.
  3. Not only do the Warriors suck but Curry broke his hand. Might as well put them in the lottery now. Also, the Warriors were pretty smart to protect that pick their sending to Brooklyn from 1-20. Would have gone to Brooklyn if it was 21-30 but there's no way that conveys now which means it turns into a 2025 2nd rounder.
  4. The guy who gave up 4 runs in 6 innings in Game 4 isn't getting any MVP votes, nor should he. Strasburg was better. I realize that - hence the first 8 words of the post - also thought it was pretty obvious that I was focusing on this particular outing. You said you know he’s not going to win it which means you were referring to the series MVP award. So why would I think you were talking about just the game? He was great in the game though.
  5. The guy who gave up 4 runs in 6 innings in Game 4 isn't getting any MVP votes, nor should he. Strasburg was better.
  6. why not? Yeah. Corbin looked good the first two innings and it was 7-8-9. He gets into any trouble and you yank him.
  7. Martinez pretty much got what he wanted out of the pitching so far. 7 innings from Scherzer and Corbin and only 2 runs and now he's got Hudson and Doolittle for the last two.
  8. It’s pretty nuts that the Nats have won 3 games started by Verlander and Cole and haven’t won the series yet. I mean, I know its just baseball being baseball, but if you told me before the series that the Nats won 3 games started by those two guys, I would have bet a bunch of money on the Nats winning in 5 and 6 games.
  9. I hate the inside the baseline rule. Just make the line between the grass and the dirt line up with the base and the runner has to be on the dirt. But the base being inside the line but the runner having to stay outside is dumb.
  10. So LSU has the ball with 2:31 left and Auburn has no timeouts. LSU runs the ball and gets a first down but holding is called on the offensive line so it gets pulled back to 1st and 20. This was at the line of scrimmage and not way downfield. However, the clock starts after the play which allows LSU to kill off the clock even though they didn’t get a first down. Why does the clock run there? Is it because they got a first down on the play even though it got called back? Even that doesn’t make sense.
  11. Luhnow is just like Taubman except he’s just smart enough to not say the really bad things out loud. But you can tell he just doesn’t give a horsefeathers at all.
  12. Nevermind. I was wrong. They get no credit. horsefeathers the Astros.
  13. "Our initial investigation led us to believe that Brandon Taubman's inappropriate comments were not directed toward any reporter," the Astros said in Thursday's statement. I’m going to assume their initial investigation involved talking only to Taubman and not any of the reporters who were there. I’ll still give them a very small bit of credit even though you know they wish they didn’t have to do this. It doesn’t outweigh their [expletive] statement, defending Taubman, calling the reporter a liar and allowing Taubman to issue an apology that wasn’t anything close to an apology. But this dude deserved to be fired so I’m glad that happened.
  14. All the Cubs have to do is show the 573 other times over the past few years our medical staff has been unable to diagnose an injury in a normal time frame. If anything, they diagnosed Olt's injury surprisingly quick based on what we know now about them.
  15. Pulisic comes on as a sub and gets the assist on the winning goal today. Good to see, even if I wanted Chelsea to lose.
  16. Was Son hurt? It's crazy how much more dangerous he is than Kane (at least to the eye). I’m guessing he didn’t play because of travel for the international break. I agree with you though. They were much better immediately after he came on.
  17. That’s good to see that he’s producing, even if it’s in limited time. I mainly want to see him play more. Last six matches in the EPL and UCL he’s played a total of 36 minutes. As for Spurs, they’ve been garbage in the league since mid-Feb last year. I don’t know exactly why and I’m not sure a turnaround is coming. So many issues with the team right now.
  18. Nope you’re both wrong. You don’t necessarily have to list the person’s name in the headline but you can’t just say “Astros staffer”. That means nothing. It’s a guy who is one promotion from running his own front office and it should be called out as such. Say assistant GM. Say executive. But “Astros staffer” is [expletive]. It's the freaking headline and was spelled out completely in the story. My lord. And? A lot of people will probably see the headline and think it was some random dude and won’t bother to read the story. It’s not. Call it what it is. This isn’t very hard. Headlines matter. Not as much as the content of the actual story. But they matter.
  19. Shame on Sports Illustrated? Really? 99% of people have never heard of this person, why would they put it in the headline? Yeah, you are correct. Headline was absolutely fine.
  20. So this happened on Saturday. [tweet] [/tweet] Now I know you're probably thinking that of course the Astros denounced the comments and/or said that he was out of line. NOPE. [tweet] [/tweet] Also, shame on Sports Illustrated for their headline. Saying it's an "Astros staffer" is really downplaying who exactly made the comments. It was the horsefeathering assistant GM who said it. But saying "Astros staffer" makes it sound like it was some random person in the front office.
  21. HAHA. Suck it Chapman.
  22. LeMahieu with a ninth inning two run shot off the Astros domestic abuser to tie the game. I’m torn right now. I kind of want a Game 7 but I also think it would be funny to see the Yankees’s domestic abuser give it up here.
