  1. Another positive, it’s one extra round of playoffs for the Dodgers to lose in this year.
  2. I had the same thought on PSG. Instinct is to pick them from that side but no games for 4 months will affect them somewhat.
  3. I can complain about how Kane was shoved over from behind and should have had a PK 5 minutes in but the main official and VAR ref didn’t give it. I’m more okay with that one being called since the ball went in directly off the arm. It certainly appeared to be on target before it hit the arm and no Spurs player would have kept it out had it not hit the arm so I think that should stand. If the ball wasn’t going in and took the same deflection and then went in, that shouldn’t count since it would have only gone in because of the hand ball. As for Jose, with how much money they’re paying him and how tight Levy is with money, he won’t be going anywhere soon unfortunately. Just one hell of a fall. To go from being a talented young team that finished 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and went R16 (16 points in a group with Real and Dortmund), finalist, R16 in the UCL to might not even finish in a Europa spot is amazing. All because horsefeathering Levy wouldn’t spend a bit on players to refresh the squad so he exiled the best coach they’ve had in 60 years.
  4. VAR is great. So glad we have it. Should have called the foul though. The handball rule is dumb. In any case, anything that makes Mourinho suffer is a plus. Got to catch the Werder relegation battle last night - they stayed up. Sargent started and looked like a boy against men in the first half. Came out much better in the second and should have scored after a great run. He could use to be on a better team - Werder is constantly playing long balls up and Sargent's strength does not seem to be in the air. Hopefully Werder reloads and fields a better team next season. Yeah, I probably should have just edited my entire post rather than just adding the note at the bottom. Just frustrated at the time. VAR as a whole is good. As with all replay, I think there should be a time limit on it, but it’s much better on the whole than baseball or basketball. I still don’t think somebody should be offsides for being 2 mm past the defender just because I’m not sold they can time everything up correctly. But that falls under the quicker review thing. If it takes that long to tell, just let it be. I hope they change the handball rule though. Also, totally defensible position on Mourinho. I’d love it as much as you if he was managing any other team.
  5. Holy horsefeathers Mahomes is signing a 10 year deal. I didn’t even know that was allowed in the NFL.
  6. Well I’m done with VAR. Spurs just had a goal disallowed because, as he was falling down, a defender kicked the ball off Lucas Moura’s upper arm and it went to Kane, who scored. Moura was pretty much on the ground. Oh, and the only reason Moura was on the ground was because he was fouled and the ref played advantage. Ticky tack horsefeathers like this is like the runners foot coming off the bad for 0.04 seconds or how, in basketball, if a guy gets hacked but the refs don’t call it and the ball goes off his hand, it’s the other team’s ball because it went off his hand. This horsefeathers shouldn’t be so hard to figure out. EDIT: I guess I shouldn’t say I’m done with VAR as much as I hate the way the handball rule causes horsefeathers like this to happen.
  7. having 762 total home runs while only hitting 50 once is unfathomable. maintaining just like 5 years of sustained excellence in this sport is extremely tough. to average 35 homers over a 22 year stretch doesn't seem possible. Which makes Hank Aaron even more impressive. He averaged 37 HR/year over 22 seasons* and only hit at least 40 in 8 seasons. And much of this during a dead ball era, let alone not the steroid era. Edit: *average based on 162 games, but still. And Aaron never hit 50 in a season either.
  8. I'll rephrase: what are the owners' STATED reasons? That they’ll lose too much money and it isn’t feasible to do 100% proration for 70+ games. Some, apparently, would lose less money by simply not playing then doing 70+ at 100% proration. They’re basically putting short term cash ahead of long term equity and thinking very shortsighted. I think they also know they have the ace in the hole that Manfred can mandate a 48 or 50 game played season at 100% proration and guys have to play/MLBPA has no input. So they’re trying to stick to that payout as the max payout for the 60-70+ game schedule since they know they can fall back on that. Which will be great for the MLB/MLBPA relationship with a CBA negotiation coming up. So what happens if they can’t come to an agreement, Manfred mandates the 50 game season and the players just say “eff off, we’re not playing”? Beyond just there not being a season, of course.
  9. Boogie has a terrible reputation, largely deserved, but he’s smarter than most of the people covering him and his interviews are great. Webber and Matt Barnes piled on after as well, I think before he was actually fired. I also red a story saying that when the Sterling stuff happened, Napear defended him on the radio. He also brought it up a couple years later and said Sterling couldn’t be racist because he hired Elgin Baylor and Doc Rivers. He also tried to defending himself with the good old “but I have black friends” line. [tweet] [/tweet]
  10. So Grant Napear is a racist apparently. He’s also been fired by the Kings.
  11. It really doesn’t seem like there’s going to be baseball this year.
  12. It would definitely be different but tons of people would still watch and get enjoyment out of it and a distraction from everything going on. Just seems like it’s impossible to do anything with fans and anything more than essential personnel in arenas/stadiums if we want sports back anytime soon. If they can do it safely I’m all for it, it being different and weird be damned. i never said i didn't want to it to happen. i'll take whatever half assed sports leagues i can get right now. i'm saying it from the perspective of the players and the people running the league. i'd rather cancel the season than award some watered down championship that is always remembered as the corona cup or whatever. I think the people running the league care most about making as much money as possible.
  13. Yeah, they’re definitely getting to 70 games. If they were at 55 games, they wouldn’t but being so close, they’ll make sure they do. I’m sure the players want a few games to get ready for the playoffs considering they’ll be going 3-4 months without games.
  14. Unless there’s someone sooner, Gallery.
  15. Of course the Raiders take the super fast wide receiver even though there are two better receivers on the board. Idiots.
  16. So I knew about Brenly leaving Randy Johnson in to throw 104 pitches in Game 6 of the 01 WS even though Arizona was up 12-0 after 3 and 15-0 after 4. But on today’s Effectively Wild, they mentioned that Byung-Hyun Kim threw 61 pitches in Game 4. This wasn’t crazy since he had thrown 50+ out of the pen 3 other times that year. After each of those other appearances, he got 3, 3 and 2 days off. However, in the WS, Brenly horsefeathering brought Kim back out for Game 5 the next day! As I’m sure everyone here remembers, it did not go well.
  17. Knicks fans have hope. Dolan has the coronavirus. Of course it’s the Knicks so no chance he dies.
  18. Since I just watched Game 7 again, friendly reminder that KB scored on a sac fly to short LF and scored from first on a single in that game.
  19. Yeah, the Phillies and Astros were weird also. Those three teams all have WS runs in their history (Arizona’s game is 2001 G7 so they could have picked an Angels game from 02) but they go with random regular season games. Best one though is the Reds. They picked opening day last year. Not a great hitting performance, not a great pitching performance, not a great walkoff/comeback. Just last years opening day.
  20. Anyone watching Game 7 right now? Contreras just doubled to make it 3-1.
  21. Mavs, Hawks and Cavs have all announced plans to compensate arena workers who aren’t able to work. Hopefully more teams follow suit. Kevin Love also pledged $100K for arena workers. Would be good to see stuff like this continue. Even if an athlete doesn’t give a horsefeathers about the workers, it seems like an easy PR win to donate some money.
  22. I’m assuming they just mean that’s the earliest they would hold games. In a month when this likely hasn’t gone away, I’m assuming they’ll postpone further.
  23. Arteta has the virus and Arsenal’s game this weekend has been postponed. Have to think the same will happen for the rest of the league tomorrow. Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive also.
  24. Just cancel the tournament. We’ll survive. that we will. selfishly this sucks because the tournament is easily my favorite sporting event each year and have been looking forward to this for awhile. Again, in the grand scheme of things that is so unimportant, and i understand and agree with the decision to cancel everything, assuming it is, but it suuuuucks on a smaller scale that this is happening. My thoughts are the same. It’s 100% the right thing to do but boy am I going to miss watching basketball next Thursday and Friday.
