  1. B1G, SEC, AAC, Big 12 have wiped out. MAC pushed back tip time of the first game today by an hour, and I'm guessing that ends in cancellation. ACC hasn't yet, but I'm guessing everybody will be called off by the end of the day. Just cancel the tournament. We’ll survive.
  2. So Gobert has the coronavirus and the season is suspended.
  3. I'm happy to see Lonzo doing what he's doing this year. He caught a ton of flack in large part because his dad's a horsefeathering lunatic. Was always a great passer and a solid defender, just his shot was abysmal. He's up to 38% from 3 for the year and while he's only at 58% from the line, that's still way up from the 44% he was at in his first two years.
  4. I didn’t think they’d actually do it but I was starting to entertain the idea that Liverpool could actually go undefeated this year. But I didn’t think the first loss would be to Watford by 3 goals.
  5. Looks like he should have stayed in the pen. Walk Single Wild pitch Single Strikeout Walk
  6. He had forearm tightness last week so this isn’t the least bit surprising. Yankees injury luck apparently carrying over from last year.
  7. hahaha - it happens so easily. I also enjoy laughable english headlines like "can leipzig upset Spurs?" or "Lampard: Chelsea is underdog against Bayern Munich." - you think? The English remain so arrogant. Champions league games conveniently start at noon here in California . . . I saw the Chelsea headline but hadn’t seen the Spurs one. That’s hilarious.
  8. So 1, 2 and 4 all lose today.
  9. If it’s ridiculous, that says more about the culture of baseball than anything. I’m giving Fiers credit for calling it out. He should have. As I said in my post, better late than never. But Fiers overlooked it when he was there, he overlooked it in 2018 and he overlooked it in 2019. He waited until after he got another $20M guaranteed after making only about $5M total through the 2017 season. He also waited until after he got a ring. I’m not saying it would be easy to stand up and call them out for it, but if all you’re risking is your baseball career, well, you’re not really risking that much. Sometimes doing the right thing requires some sacrifice. I understand your point, but I can't quite get behind it. If he had waited to report on some form of sexual/child abuse, etc., then I'd absolutely agree. But to risk his future in the game (and setting himself and his family up for life) over the cheating scandal...not sure I can feel any indignation about the timing here. I definitely agree that it was a tough decision for him. I probably would have stayed silent if I was in his position also. I didn’t mean to make him seem like the bad guy because he definitely isn’t. I also hadn’t seen the stuff about Fiers telling Lucroy in 2018 and them telling MLB about it and MLB doing nothing. Just makes Manfred look even worse.
  10. If all you're risking is the one thing you'll be able to make money doing in your life you're not really risking much? Ortiz is a known PED user and all around terrible person affiliated with an organization that also got caught up in the cheating. Screw him for whining about snitches. I wasn’t aware that Fiers is completely incapable of doing any other job in life other than playing baseball. Good to know. I have no idea what this means but okay, it's still ridiculous. I wasn’t clear on what I was referring to here, so that’s my fault. It means it’s ridiculous that the culture of baseball is such that a player can’t speak out about other players blatantly cheating without fearing his career probably ends if he does so. This is obviously a much bigger issue, and is something that isn’t just limited to baseball. Fiers shouldn’t have to choose between doing the right thing and losing his job. That needs to change.
  11. To be fair to Ortiz, he specifically called out Fiers for not saying anything while he was on the Astros and waiting until after he got the title to do so. Fiers shouldn’t be criticized for speaking out (better late than never) but I at least understand what Ortiz is saying here. Any other pitcher or the hitters who didn’t participate could have spoken up but didn’t so credit to Fiers for doing so. This is a ridiculous take, imo. If a guy actually called out the team while he was on it, even more people would cite his snitchiness. It's ridiculous to expect some mid-roster nobody to make that move while on the team.
  12. David Ortiz played the 'snitches' card with Fiers, too, so horsefeathers him.
  13. So again, why should the Cubs make this deal? They're pretty certain Bryant is leaving in FA in two years and either don't want to trade him for prospects or they think this is the best deal they'll get for him? Obviously we don't know the answers to any of these questions.
  14. I'm going to preface this by saying in no way at all do I feel bad for City... That being said, the fallout from this could affect them for more than just the two years they're out of the UCL (assuming the ban doesn't get reduced).
  15. Man City got a two year UCL ban for FFP violations. Have to think Pep is gone after the year now.
  16. Yep, especially coupled with bringing him in for game 6 in the 7th horsefeathering inning with a 7-2 lead because there were two on with two out AND THEN sending him back out for the 8th inning. Just a slow motion train wreck that Schwarber, Zobrist, etc bailed out. That was what really pissed me off. Chapman had just come off like 40+ pitches and almsot 3 innings in game 5 and he's bringing him into a 5 run game? And then leaves him in for the eighth. And then leaves him in for a batter in the ninth because he waited too long to get someone warmed up after Rizzo homered to make it a 7 run lead.
  17. My favorite thing (other than the obvious WS stuff) to watch from that run is the comeback in SF. I LOVE the comeback against SF. Javy, Zo, and Willy were so swaggy. Almost certainly my favorite sporting event I've experienced live. I mean, it was really only a great half an hour but it completely erases the largely crap 3 hours before.
  18. Extremely, six anonymous '17 Astros talked for this one and it made it sound like several players were a little leery of this scheme and Beltran basically ignored them and eventually everyone else followed like sheep because he's a 'respected veteran' or whatever. I’m judging this based solely on your summary, but it sounds like players trying to cover their own asses by throwing Beltran under the bus.
  19. Until he’s dead, yes. It’s not just the fact that he did it but the fact that it lied about it so many times and didn’t come clean about things until proof came out that he did what he was accused of. All he wants at this point is to be inducted into the HOF at this point so he can enjoy it. He wouldn’t have admitted to anything had proof not come out and I don’t think he’s the least bit sorry for doing it. He doesn’t deserve to enjoy getting into the HOF. horsefeathers him. Interesting. Do the feel the same way about the steroid guys who haven’t apologized? Or I guess even the guys whose apologies you felt were just aimed at them getting into the HOF? I don’t care about the steroid guys really. There’s a big gap to me between steroid guys and Rose.
  20. You think Pete Rose should be banned from the HOF? Until he’s dead, yes. It’s not just the fact that he did it but the fact that it lied about it so many times and didn’t come clean about things until proof came out that he did what he was accused of. All he wants at this point is to be inducted into the HOF at this point so he can enjoy it. He wouldn’t have admitted to anything had proof not come out and I don’t think he’s the least bit sorry for doing it. He doesn’t deserve to enjoy getting into the HOF. horsefeathers him.
  21. This is the least excited I've been for a Cubs season since probably 2013. At least 2014 had the excitement of Javy and Soler probably getting called up at some point.
  22. Someone (USA Today??) pegged them at 82 wins and 4th place I mean I haven't seen a betting line that low, I'm sure individuals will predict lower. That's a different story. Bovada was 85.5 earlier today. They took the over unders down now though, I assume because of the Betts trade.
  23. I suppose I’ll start the third game of the year.
  24. I just lost my work’s squares pool because that guy didn’t go down. I am not happy right now.
  25. Heard today that before Mahomes, the Chiefs hadn’t won a game started by a QB they drafted since Todd Blackledge in 1987. That’s not just playoffs. That’s regular season also. That’s nuts. Of course, it makes a little more sense when you find out that between Blackledge and Mahomes, they picked 11 QBs but didn’t pick any in the first round and only two in the second round.
