  1. I don’t see the downside right? Maybe pisses off their club teams a little but at the end of the day we haven’t clinched however unlikely it is for Costa Rica to score 6 times on the US. They get 5 subs so they could always start a first team defense and then bring on attackers as necessary.
  2. Pels play the Lakers tonight. And as an extra bonus, if the Lakers finish with one of the ten worst records in the league (currently tied for 10th worst) NO gets the pick as part of the AD trade. Go Pels indeed. Lakers blow a 23 point lead and lose to NO. I’m a Lakers fan and at this point even I think it would be hilarious if the missed the playoffs. The Westbrook trade was awful when it happened and it’s played out as poorly as possible. They deserve to miss the playoffs for that stupidity alone.
  3. If that happens do you play the game in Costa Rica with a neutral strategy and then go uber conservative if they go down by a goal or two, or do you bunker from the start? I think you just play. The US's defensive excellence comes from squeezing opponents well before they get to the goal so you don't need to bunker or go to 5 in the back, but you also don't need to try to press a bunch of goal kicks either. Once you get into the 2nd half or so maybe you drop lines a bit or add another CB, but even if the US is uncertain to win @CR in neutral circumstances, they are abundantly good enough to not lose by 6. And there will be plenty of chances to hit CR on the counter if they’re really going all out to try to beat us by 5. We should be able to get some good chances on that alone and I’d bet on us finding the net in that scenario.
  4. YES! 3-0! Pour it on!
  5. Good to know two hands to the neck, shoving a player over and the ball hitting the arm is actually a penalty in CONCACAF, even if VAR was needed to give it. Glad to get an early goal.
  6. Obviously just winning is fine, but it would be nice to win by 2 just to get an extra goal on the GD buffer.
  7. That one is going to sting for a while for Houston. They only lose by 6 despite going 1-20 from 3.
  8. It would be a semifinal game.
  9. LOL Purdue. Also, I'm pretty sure there's never been an Elite 8 without a 1 seed so if Kansas goes down, that would happen this year.
  10. Well, Mexico City is higher in altitude than any major American metro, and by a fair amount. I have to assume they train there. And yeah, training at altitude is basically legal blood doping. Your body creates a bunch more hemoglobin to compensate. Wouldn’t that only matter to the guys who live there though? All the guys playing in Europe for 9 months of the year all of a sudden aren’t going to be used to the altitude when they’ve been back for 3 days.
  11. The later game time is good for us from a GD perspective also in this scenario. I know we’ll want to win by a bunch anyway, but the necessity for a big win is greater if CR wins by 4 vs by 1. If CR wins by 1, if we can even win by 2 that puts us at +8 over CR. And we’re currently +7 on goals scored over CR which is the next tiebreaker so if we finish tied on GD, we’d still have the goals scored tiebreaker. So being at +8 on GD going into the last game would mean CR would have to beat us by 5 to pass us.
  12. There are only 3 of the top 8 seeds remaining. Only three combined 1's and 2's in the EE has happened before, though it's fairly rare. But if Kansas loses to Providence, it will be the first time there have only been 2 of the top-8 seeds in the EE since 2000.
  13. Well a draw isn't awful for either team, especially with Panama tying. If the US beats or ties Panama, they're guaranteed 4th. If they beat Panama, Costa Rica has to make up at least a +8 GD in their last two games, so realistically, we'd just have to keep it close there. Mexico is essentially in the same boat knowing they have Honduras and El Salvador left, who are both eliminated. One win and they get 4th at least. Win and a draw and they get 3rd at least.
  14. [tweet] [/tweet] I mean, this is a little soft, sure, but you're on a yellow card already. Got to be smarter than that.
  15. Do you not have CBS Sports Network? Unfortunately not.
  16. Alright I’m out. The stream is awful, I’m not going to watch the Spanish language station and college basketball is on. Those of you streaming tell me if it gets any better.
  17. Trying to stream through CBS Sports Network and it’s awful too. Won’t go a minute without getting the spinning circle.
  18. And the last two World Cups they did qualify for they had 1 total win in 6 games. Also, the dream of both Italy and Portugal missing the 2022 World Cup is alive! you'd rather watch north macedonia? Anyway, in between they won euros. Wonder if that's happened before. Same as US . . . Than Portugal? Yes. Never liked them much and glad there’s a chance both them and Italy miss out.

  20. I was going to replay differently but then I realized I missed the “if they beat Panama” part the first time I read this. Costa Rica’s been playing well but it’s pretty likely they don’t beat both Canada (who still has something to play for) and the US (who, in your scenario, would also still have something to play for). I mean, anything is possible. We didn’t expect to lose to T&T four years ago either. But I’m not going to worry about that until Costa Rica beats Canada and El Salvador and we lose to Mexico.
  21. Hmm … that’s a tough one. Though considering the Ricketts don’t seem to give a shit about the Cubs being good, might as well take Chelsea down with them.
  22. I saw his right foot touch the center court line before he fell down. That's why I thought it was a violation. The lack of a whistle actually ended up helping TCU though since the clock ran out before the ball was dunked. Had the call been made Arizona has the ball side out with a chance for one last shot. Yeah, one or the other should have been called. Of course, TCU still had a timeout that they should have called once the guy got trapped in the corner. And it didn’t end up mattering, but the clock briefly stopped at 2.2 seconds also. Would have been interesting had he got the dunk (or another shot) off with a couple tenths left.
  23. When exactly is the backcourt violation called? You don't usually see it when a guy is falling down which is why I ask. He clearly didn't have control of the ball when he went into the backcourt so were the refs right in allowing play to continue then since Arizona picked up the ball? Or do they just say he touched the ball in the backcourt therefore it's a violation?
  24. I know it's the end of the game but if that same play happened with 10 minutes left in the game, the refs call a foul. Good thing TCU didn't lose because of that.
  25. This round has been really good so far. Not many bad games.
