  1. Maybe NOT officially, but cheating is a part of the game. Or why else do you see the catchers having to go to the mound, when the runner reaches second, and change their signals with the pitchers?
  2. You're being naive. Cheating is a part of the game, so players/teams hide is better, and there is alot of cheating that goes unnotice. But to think "is not a part of the game", you really are being naive.
  3. I completely agree. No team will trade a 25-27 year old top of the rotation pitcher for Crawford. They will be willing to trade a 20-22 year old pitcher who is still in the minors that has the potential to be a top of the rotation guy. With that said I think Veal, Mateo and Marshall would get the job done in a heartbeat and if I were Hendry I'd offer that as soon as he can. Side note: The more I think about the more I like it. I'd love to trade for both Crawford and Burrell and then sign Lugo. Lugo, Crawford, DLee, Ramirez, Burrell, Murton, Barrett, Theriot/Izturis has me salivating. I rather keep the young pitchers, insread of trading the for Crawford. I especially want to keep Veal.
  4. Why go after Lilly when the Cubs have two lefties already that COULD HAVE similar numbers for considerably less already on the roster? Lilly would make a decent Deadline deal pitcher, but I wouldn't sign him, unless it was a "last act."
  5. Fixed. :D Moyer will be heading to Social Security with Pujols, talking about how "the elderly" get no respect.
  6. First: Anybody who is bidding for Matsuzaka, is MORE then likely going to sign him to play for their team. Or why bid? Second: As mention, I think that would be a HORRIBLE manuever to "spend $50 mill" on a player who said team had no interests in signing. Third: If said team was going to waste said money, why not use the money to acquire players that can ACTUALLY help you, instead of using the money to block a player from a team you don't want him to go to? I doubt a situation you "mentioned", KCtigers, will happen.
  7. If i requires Zambrano to get ARod, then move on. ARod is a pipedream. A fun pipedream, but one nonetheless. I rather keep Z over acquiring ARod, anyday.
  8. Sure he does. A walk is a leisurely stroll, sometimes outdoors, sometimes indoors (such as at a mall). A longer walk is called a hike. :D Of course, he knows what a hike is. I mean he hiked it back to the dugout from second, MANY a times this past season.
  9. So, if the Trammel rumor is correct, we have: Bench Coach: Alan Trammel Hitting Coach: ? Pitching Coach: Larry Rothschild Firstbase Coach: ? but believed to be Quade. Thirdbase Coach: Bullpen Coach: Matt Sinatro. All right....I'll take the hitting coach job then since nobodys taken it yet. Those last 2 openings are pretty important IMO and may distinguish what idenity this team is going to have. No way, man. I've heard rumors that you preached swinging at a curveball, no matter the count, is a good thing. That's why it's called hitting and not walking. Johnny B, is that you?
  10. Mark Prior's "salary" won't prevent the Cubs from going after Matsuzaka. And the two salaries are not mutally exclusive. This is going tosound classless---thus I apologize---but I rather wait till Prior is just about done as a pitcher, before I let him go. I don't want to see Prior go and pull another Maddux. That's just me. No way do the Cubs let Prior go, until they know for sure he won't come back and haunt the Cubs.

  12. He's also one of, if not THE best shortstop not in the HOF. Agrred. And then you take in account the numbers of 2 current HOFers who play SS, and compare them with Trammell's: .260/.299/.367 .262/.337/.328 .285/.352/.415 First line is Bill Mazeroski (yeah, a REAL HOF statline, ain't it) Second line is Ozzie Smith (HTH do you have a higher OBP then slg?) Third line is Alan Trammell. Alan is CLEARLY better then both Ozzie and Bill, and those two boneheads are in the HOF and Trammell is not? Apparently Alan Trammell has what Sandberg had, and what Santo currently have, the disdain of Joe Morgan. Becuase if Maz and Smith are HOFers, then according to that logic, Trammell would be an elite of the HOF. I thought Mazerowski was a second baseman? Does it matter? He's still not a HOFer.

  14. But hey. Luis does have a HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT sister.
  15. Do we have to hear that song every 7th inning stretch? Why can't we just honor America before the game with the National Anthem and baseball during the game with Take Me Out to the Ballgame? I think there are much better sounding patriotic songs (such as America the Beautiful) anyway, if we're going for the patriotism during. Why do you hate America? Hahaha. Not America, just its most overrated song. It's based on another country's national anthem for God's sake! Forgive my ignorance what song is "God Bless America" based on?
  16. Touche, Giles. Besides, I rather Pierre leave RUNNING, instead of walking....but then again...he prolly be caught trying to leave Chicago, but oh well...
  17. Am I the only one who is bother by the elimination of the "draft pick compensation"?
  18. I agree that this series "won't be close" at all. I hate to use this term but the Tigers seem to me like they are truly a "team of destiny." Which is funny cause the Cards have used the ole "lightning in the bottle" strategy to reach the series. Man, the Cards are going to be embarrass so bad, it ain't funny.
  19. He doesn't. History suggests they won't be, though. Who else did we actually bid on and lose? No one. That's the point. Name one previous Japanese player playing in Japan the Cubs have pursued. Maybe just maybe, Hendry now recognizes that he needs to widen his search for players who can help this club. I, for one, wouldn't be surprise if the Cubs ended up with the highest bid.
  20. You're right, Cashman isn't stupid. He also knows there are FEW teams that can take on ARod's contract; excluding Boston for obvious reasons, you have the Cubs/Dodgers/Angels/White Sox. Arod has already said HE WON'T play for the White Sox and Ozzie Guillen is the MAIN reason. The Angels/Dodgers have the prospects, but would the be willing to trade said prospects, even tho both need another major bat? Stoneman definately is man reluntant to trade his prospects. The Dodgers, have Furcal at SS, and that is where his value is, not 2B, or 3rd, but SS. So, Cashman is definately going to have to get creative if he plans to move ARod. And a 31 yr old ARod is not worth Z and a couple of prospects.
  21. So how does Alan Schwarz know the Cubs won't be the winning bidder for Matsuzaka?
  22. You guys are vultures today. A little patronizing, eh? Well, if you wouldn't have come in with your "guns a blazin" with the aforemention post, maybe you wouldn't be pick on. You created the vultures like atmosphere, so don't go crying when it comes back and bite you on the butt. With that said, back on target of Juan Pierre. Considering the production that Pierre gave the Cubs, the Cubs don't "HAVE" to re-sign Pierre. Pierre was pretty much crap when the Cubs needed him. He only turned it on, when the pressure was off. And considering the pricetag that Pierre is going to want....re-signing Pierre is low on the priorities. Besides, I think somebody like Murton or Theriot can give the Cubs similar or better production out of the leadoff poistion then Juan Pierre, and DO IT SIGNIFICANTLY CHEAPER. So, if you are such a fan of Juan Pierre, you going to be rooting for another team in 2007.
  23. Difference is...the Cards signed Carpenter on the cheap, with the hope that once he got healthy he would reward them for their patience; which he has. Meche, IMO, will not be cheap to sign. Quite frankly, he won't be worth the bills he might get.
  24. I said it before, and I will say it again, ARam will be a Cub in 2007. No rhyme, no reason, just a hunch. Hendry isn't stupid (regardless of what some people think) and he knows how important ARam is. My guess will be they will come to a new contract (or extension) before November is out.
