    I really think Lugo--if they are tryin targeting him---would be playing SS, and ot CF in 2007, regardless of Lugo agreeing to play CF. To me, there are better CF stopgaps available (Lofton/Payton, ie) then there are for SS (Clayton/Counsell, ie) in FA. I rather sign Lugo for SS, and add Lofton, then sign Lugo to play CF, and have Izzy/Cedeno at SS. At worst, I rather have Theriot at SS, over the other two in-house options.

    Just because Grossman doesn't put up "video game numbers" like Petyon Manning, doesn't mean Grossman isn't as valued to the Bears as Manning to the Colts. Manning is asked to CARRIES the offense, Grossman is asked to run and execute the offense with minimal of mistakes. Big difference. But I will say it again....Grossman is as VALUABLE TO THE BEARS, as Manning is to the Colts. Stop believing in the hype of Peyton Manning, cause even Peyton isn't THAT good. From 1998-2001, with the help of James/Dilger/Pollard/Harrison, etc, etc, the Colts were 32-32. The Colts ascension to the "elite" came when they hired Tony Dungy. In fact, I think you can make the case that without Dungy, the Colts are a consistant 9-7, 10-6 team. So, IMO, I think Peyton Manning is about as overrated player in the game as anybody, but the difference with Manning is he has the stats to back him up, unlike other overrateed players. But let's face it...Manning DID NOT save the Colts franchise by himself. If you think he did.....there is no excuse. Football is the cinsumate team effort sport, and if Manning didn't have Edge/Harrison/Pollard/Dilger etc, maybe he would be the former #1 overall pick who is underachieving badly. Manning is good, but not THAT good.

    I do think Floyd wil end up a Cub, I just think the timing is "odd." I mean, the Cubs haven't even had an "oofficial press conference" (ie holding up his bring new Cubbis home unni) to introduce Alfonso Soriano. So why announce the signing of Floyd now? If Floyd wanted to be a Cub, wouldn't a deal be better off announce on Tuesday or Wednesday, which would allow Soriano his "moment in the sun" about his contract? Again, I do think Floyd is going to end up with the Cubs, I just think if it happens, it will Tuedasy-Thursday time table, and not Monday.

    Did anybody else there, cause I don't know? Wish Bruce was on to give the real story. That sounds like a recycle of the same rumor supposedly coming from Kaplan on Wednesday or Tuesday. Which Bruce subsequently pooh-poohed. The difference....the original post had it "closing in on a deal", and this one has it that it will be "official" on Monday. Not saying it will, BUT....could it be that maybe Hendry hasn't told Mr. Miles everything about what he plans to accomplished?

    What do you mean? How does signing a new leadoff hitter mean that they have to sign Bonds? Because it means that they are going to actually try to compete. And in order to do so, they absolutely have to have Bonds back. the fact that the Giants have sign Rich Aurilla to a 3 yr deal, and are interested in signing David Weathers as set up. Those two moves/potential moves tell me that the Giants (or should I say Sabean) have no intention of trying to rebuild RIGHT NOW which says to me, they're prolly going to bring Bonds. I don't think they necessarily wanted to do that at the start FA, but losing out on guys like Pierre/GMJ/Leecan really change a teams perception. So I expect Bonds to be back in SF for 2 yrs.

    Those statistics aren't very important at all, especially RBI and R which are almost completely worthless. SB has some value, but Soriano gets himself out on the bases so much that he doesn't exactly provide a ton of value with his baserunning. But to be fair, Soriano's speed allows him to take more chances on the basepaths, then most players can't or won't make. Not to mention, all it takes is to be "smarter" on the basepaths to improve in those areas. You can teach players to be "smarter" on the basepaths, but you can't teach speed.

    Does it make me stupid that I played the game for 16 years of my life and don't have a clue as to what the hell y'all are talking about? What the crap is WARP?? no, but using the term y'all does. I kid, I kid. Ya right. You probably think I walk around barefoot and use corncobs and the sears catalog when I go out to my outhouse. Well, you ARE an Ole Miss fan, so anything's possible..... 8)

    I still wear my Mark Prior jersey, with pride. One of these days, Prior is going to make it a popular jersey again. But you can't go wrong, with an Ernie Banks jersey, which I did.

    I'm sorry, they don't get worse than Angel. What would make the worst crew? Hernandez, Froemming, Bucknor.. who else? That guy everyone hates in Anaheim? Doug Eddings. I raise you Hunter Wendelstedt. I raise that to the umpire he "Gave" Jeter a homerun even tho that little cheater, Meier clearly interfered.

    Soriano's speed is NOT a threat to the Cubs offense, just like Pierre' speed wasn't a threat to the Cubs offense. But what was Pierre's threat to the offense, was his "decision making ability" on when to run, is what hurt the Cubs. If Soriano's makes bad decision on when to steal, THEN it hurts the offense. Speed is only an threat if it is misused. Imagine Berkman and Lee (I know Lance will be at first base) in the outfield. The hilarity that would followed, would be "Three Stooges" esque.

    Yeah, but if Lee deal keep the Stros from picking up even remotely SOLID pitching, then it's a good deal for the Cubs and the Cards. Astros with Lee and no Clemens/Petitte is worse then an Astros with Clemens/Petitte and no Lee.

    I would give Padilla 4/36. folks are just going to have to come to terms with the fact that league average starting pitchers get paid $9M/year. Padilla is as much of a lock to be league average as anyone, and at 28 has a chance to be a pretty good number two type pitcher. I starting to buy into getting Padilla.

    I don't want Jeff Suppan, not because of political views, or his personal likes or dislikes, I don't want Suppan because he is about to get a VERY, very ugly contract. He is about to be paid #2 money, when in reality he is a #4. That is why I don't want Suppan.

    If Floyd "truly" wants to play for the Cubs, then it shouldn't take "$9 mill" to get a deal done, especially with his injry concerns. Once and for all, the rumor didn't state that it would take 9 million guaranteed to sign Cliff Floyd. Go back and read the original post if you have to. It talked about incentives that could reach 9 million. There was no mention of what the base might be and no mention as to what the milestones would be that Floyd would have to reach in order for the incentive money to kick in. Nonetheless, that is way too much IN INCENTIVES to a guy who might play in 100 games.

    I know alot of people don't like the idea of a platoon, but I definately see the benefit of having a Floyd/Murton LF. In fact...a Floyd/Murton LF would be very productive, not to mention the Cubs are guarantee to have a solid hitting option off the bench LATE IN THE GAME that improves the chances of winning the game. So if the Cubs can sign Floyd a 1 yr say $4 mill deal (with incentives), I can't see that CAN'T help the Cubs.

    Unforutnately, it will come down to the Dodgers and the Cubs, and UNLESS Hendry can knock Schmidt's shoes off (like he did with Soriano), I see Jason staying in Cali.

    Thomas and Bagwell was forever be link. The same birthday, the fact that both won MVPs the same yr. Interesting enough, according to Baseballreference.com, on the list of "Similar Hitters" Bagwell top comparasion is........Frank Thomas. And believe it or not it is vice versa Frank Thomas top comparasion is Jeff Bagwell.

    Just out of sheer morbid curiosity, which first basemen do you see as being better than Bagwell? Lou Gehrig wasn't too bad. Jimmy Fox won back to back MVPs though I don't know too much else about him. Orlando Cepeda and Willie Stargall, I hear were pretty good, themselves.
