Now do you people see why Hendry WANTED Novoa in the Farnsworth deal? I'm telling people now, Novoa is going to be the games' TOP set-up man before too long.

All I know, this Adam Dunn "is he or isn't he" situation has GOT to end soon, or I might just go crazy.

I seriously DOUBT Junior is going to the Yanks. If there is ONE team Junior holds a grudge against it is the Yanks. I don't know how they treated his father when he was a Yankee, but Junior has stated several times, he won't ever play for the Yanks, and has used they way they treated his father as the reason why. So I highly doubt it will be Junior to the Yanks.

Hey, the A's took two VALUABLE arms, and an outstanding---albeit a few yrs away---bat away from the Cards. I mean imagine if the Cards still had Haren/Calero/Barton, do you think the Cubs COULD HAVE top and offer of Haren/Barton/3rd prospect for Dunn? I don't think so. The A's did the Cubs a favor, by taking away some valuable ammuntion for the trade deadline.

I agree with the poster here. Now everybody knows Dunn is SUPREMELY unhappy in Cincy, especially since his best friend, Austin Kearns was demoted, but in no way would the Reds trade Dunn till after the series, if at all. Would you trade say.....Derrick Lee to the Astros in the middle of a four game set? Of course not. You would wait till the end of the series to make the trade. So, IF this is a DUNN deal, it will done AFTER the series, and not before.

There's still a possibility that trade could end up being a bust for bust trade. Minor league performances are awesome and everything, but, you gotta go with ML performance to evaluate trades. I disagree. Even if Bay turns out to be a bust, the Cubs didn't optimize his trade value - they surely could have gotten more for him than Bartosh (and if not, they should have kept Bear). Yes, I just read the whole thread. :shock: Call me a sucker, but I still believe Bartosh will be a solid pitcher for the Cubs. Here is a listed of pitchers who are on the ML roster who have similar ht/wt as Bear Bay (non-Asian): Ezequiel Astacio 1.87/.357/9.47 Ervin Santana 1.62/.281/5.66 Casey Fossum .245/1.31/4.02 Chad Gaudlin 2.71/.453//12.19 And those numbers are BAA/WHIP/ERA. The ONLY one on that listed who is even having a remotely solid season is Casey Fossum, and he is ALREADY on his third team. Gaudin is 5'11, about 4 inches shorter then Bay. So really there are two pitchers are EXACT some measurement of about 6'3 and around 150-160 lbs. And those two kids have BLAH numbers. Both maybe talented, but like Bay they need to pack on the LBS so that injury doesn't become a problem. And gaining weight has been Bay's problem. I like the kid, but I believe Bartosh will produce more for the Cubs then Bay will for the Indians.

If I am not badly mistaken, but I believe the Padres wear those uniforms once a yr, as a TRIBUTE to the men and women who serve in the military (or as the English would say...Milita-re). But I go with those Astros uni's on the 80's. With the White Sox uni's (don't matter which one in their history) as a close 2nd.

I think what is going to eventually happen is that the Cubs are going to go with a Gerut/Murton platoon for the time being. I mean Murton went 4-5 TONIGHT, and had he been hitting closer to 5th, he might have had a couple of RBI's. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7597 I know it is a small sample size, BUT, it does show the Murton knows how to put the ball in play, and recognize the difference between a ball or a strike. Murton would have to to totally blow in the next two weeks before he would need to be sent down. And I believe the Cubs are intrigue, at least partly as to how a Gerut/Murton platoon would do. I also believe that Cedeno will be the kid sent back down to AAA. I think he INABILITY to switch hit has hender his playing time.< Otherwise, I like this move, it's solid. But I don't believe this is a precursor to another deal. If Cincy like Gerut so much, why not just trade for him straight, and not include the Cubs? The ONLY reason I could fathom, is that the Indians/Reds have that same rivalry like the Cubs/White Sox, Dodgers/Padres/Giants that they are extremely hesitant on trading to the arch rival.

Personally, unless the Cubs job opens up, I don't think Girardi will be interviewing for any jobs as manager....but I could be wrong, but I think Girardi will either be the Yankees or Cubs manager by 2007.

To me it doesn't matter what Prior's contract and arbritration situation looks like, he should be ONE of the few no-brainers for the Cubs to look up long-term, excluding something immensly crazy.

The thing is he basically has treated the Biscuits as an 2nd class organization that didn't deserve his "kind of talent." He felt he should had been promoted from A to AAA. This kid was NOT playing for his teammates, this kid is a me-first player, in the mold of a Bonds. So excuse me if I don't sing the praises of Delmon Young. Being a kid "is not an excuse", imo.

Mike Tankersley of the Montgomery Advertiser wrote this...and he pretty much hit on the nose as to how Delmon has treated the city of Montgomery. Trust me when I say....GOOD RIDDANCE to Delmon Young, and I am glad he is out of Montgomery.

Really? even now? I mean, I remember right before we got Aram, some of us were excited about possibly getting mike lowell. But I would think that his stock is somewhere around that of a new baseball bat right now. I just hoped over to the dodgers website. It looks like they are sharing the time at the hot corner between four guys, none of which are hitting below .285. Do they think he is a change of scenery case? He has too much talent to be this bad. He will never be the premier 3rd baseman in the NL, but he can be good enough to be top 5 or 6. Hoops Lowell in Boston? Man if Mike can't rebound in Boston with the green monster, then there is something wrong with him.

Huh?? We've got plenty in our system, and at the ML level that could be moved for Dunn. I'd be hard pressed to think that we couldn't "out bid" for him. The Cardinals have Wainright and Reyes, two high-level pitchers who are both major league ready and who are scouts favorites. If St. Louis is willing to include both, there's basically no way the Cubs can "outbid" that with prospects. You can put out Hill-Williams-Wellemeyer-Mitre-Guzman-Novoa-Ohman-Marshall-Nolasco-Pinto and let Cinci choose any two of them, but no pair from that group would be comparable to Reyes and Wainright, I don't think. Even if you let Cinci choose whichever three from that pool that you like, I don't believe that would compare to Reyes and Wainright. Personally I don't think St. Louis will offer up both of those guys. They may be reluctant to offer even one. But if they choose to offer both, there's nothing Hendry can do in terms of offering young pitchers (short of Zambrano) that can match, IMO. I don't know if I would call Adam Wainwright a "high level major league pitcher", because he has a 3.71 ERA, with 136 hits in 126 IPs, a 1.31 WHIP, and has 92 k's in 126 IPs in AAA. So the ONLY thing that might intrigue scouts if the fact that he is 6'7. That and the fact that the Braves were more then ready to part him for one yr rental JD Drew, has you thinking, cause the Braves have HARDLY made a mistake in regardless in trading young pitching. So I am sure the CUBS can match that prospect with either Mitre or even Rich Hill. Now, Reyes I would agree he would be consider a "high level major league pitcher. Wainwright just has Jeff Juden written all over him, or at-best Aaron Harang. So the Cubs coud definately OUTBID the Cards for Dunn, if they want to, but that's the question......is Dunn worth it?

I'm torn on getting Dunn. Dunn is a borderline FRANCHISE player, and Hendry would have to do his homework on the kid. If Dunn ever learned to go the opposite field, his average would go up. If Dunn ever decides that a .280/.430/.600/.980(which I can see him doing with the proper motivation) is more impressive then a .240/.380/.550/.935 then yeah he be worth the prospects and the money it is going to take to acquire him. But the problem I see with Dunn, is that he is content on being merely good, instead of being GREAT. And that separates Dunn from the TRUELY greats of the game like ARod, Vlad, and Pujols.

Found this little tidbit over at redlegnation.com, so I don't know how much validity it has, but should be intersting chat. If this is true, this may actually be a smart thing for O'Brien to do. Play off the fear that one of these teams may get him, thus increase a bidding war. But as a Cubs fan, I would be learly of entering a bidding war for Dunn. I like Dunn, and I do feel the Cubs have more "bullets" to trade for Dunn then Astros, and the Cards. I would hate for Dunn to end up behind Rolen and Pujols in St. Louis, or Berkman and Ensberg in Houston, when he could look just as good behind Aram and Lee. Nonetheless, should be an interesting couple of weeks of speculation.

Infact, we do. Earlier this season he came on air and reported "Hendry is finalizing a major trade. It will be completed in two days." If you fell for that line, that you deserve to be made a fool out of. NOTHING is finalize until a deal is announce. Just because some reporter said "a trade will completed in two days" doesn't mean it will happen, and that it is still speculation.

Dunn won't be traded this yr. In the offseason is where I would look for him to be traded, but not right now. And I am split on trading for Dunn. His power and patience is awe-inspiring, but his CRAPPY defense (makes Alou look like a GG winner), and his very limited offense arsenal (homerun, strikeout, or walk) would thin very quickly. So, I guess it would depend on who the Cubs would have to give up.

I actually made this comparasion, but the Cubs already have a Paul O'neill type player on the Cubs...his name is Matt Murton. Finally, why do people still think the Cubs are going to make a trade? There isn't anybody available who would be an upgrade (significantly) over Murton/Hollandsworth. And Nomar is expected back in August (bye-bye Macias?) So again, where would the Cubs try to upgrade at? Manager..... :lol: If Hendry makes a trade, it will be for a middle reliever, like McDougal.

They're not happy with Contreras and El Duque. The consensus seems to be that the Sox feel they have enough offense to win. That's funny, it seems to me, they NEED a bat (ahem at 3rd, and maybe even SS) moreso then they need another arm. Besides I don't believe the current White Sox has what "IT" takes to go deep in the playoffs. For some reason, they don't have "IT". The Red Sox had Curt Schilling. The Marlins had Miguel Cabrera. The Angels had David Eckstein (believe it or not). So again who is the "IT" factor for the White Sox, cause I don't see it.
