    The feeling I got was that Girardi was going to wait for the Cubs to open up, but seeing as he is gonna take the Marlins, he feels the job in Chicago won't be opening up soon. :x I don't blame him for taking a job like this when it's offered. The Fish have a pretty good team and organization so it isn't like he is taking a job with the Royals. I think it's a decent opportunity for him and there is no guarantee that he would get the Cub job. Add to that that it might not just be Baker that gets canned. I don't either, but he doesn't know what kind of team he's going get in 2006. Guarantee to be back in 2006: Willis/Cabrera/Pierre/Beckett/LoDuca. Most likely gone: Lowell(with Castillo), Encanracion, Gonzalez, Jones. GONE: Burnett. Delgado is on the brink of either staying or going. So, it's going to be a rough winter for Marlins, and I hope Girardi knows what he is doing.

    I think that anyone can see that the White Sox's success this year is due almost entirely to their lights-out pitching staff. Every pitcher on that team - starters and relievers - has pitched better than expectations (some more drastically than others). I think (read: "hope") Hendry sees this as clearly as we do, and if he does try to emulate the White Sox, it will be their pitching, not their batting, that he goes for. The media folks seem to be saying it's because of small ball. And we ALL know the media is baseball savvy. :roll: This---in order---as to why the WS played well. 1: The starters 2: playing in a weak division (only Cleveland worried them) 3: small ball.

    I'd rather sign a guy like Randy Winn (who is a FA, IIRC) who will provide a little pop and get on base than another windmill like Wilson. I don't think Winn is a FA. I believe the Giants picked up his option for 2006, already. The traded for him with 2006 in mind, not 05. So cross off Winn.

    Not saying Jones is that sensational or that he should be a #1 priority but there's not any guarantee that Giles or any other names floated on this board are dying to come to the Cubs. Point = Cubs fans need to be flexible and realistic. Jacque Jones SPLIT OBP SLG OPS Season 319 .438 .757 Career .327 .455 .792 Don't we already have somebody like that already on the Cubs? Oh yeah......it's Corey Patterson. No thank you on JJ. If the Cubs can't land Giles and other good RF in trade, I would prefer going with either Burnitz or trade for somebody like Craig Monroe, instead of siging Jones. Second: On Giles, St. Lou is gonna be a attractive place to sign, and I would be hard-pressed to compete with a team that has been to two straight NLCS, and a World Series, in the last 2 yrs. But if I was the Cubs, when FA opening, I would call up Giles and his agent, and tell them a "plane ticket for Chicago" is ready for them, and start the "process" of luring him to Chicago. The sooner they do this, the better the chances. Don't rag on St. Lou, but convince him, that the city of Chicago takes care of it's players.

    The thing that keeps my eyebrows raised (If ya smelllll....) is the fact he was was born in the Domican Republic, and yet I haven't heard one time he has gone back to his home country. Sammy, Pedro, Moises, Papi, etc, etc...always seems able to get back home, but not Albert. Now unless I am wrong, I think he doesn't leave the states, cause that would require a background check on his passport (if he has one), and with the crackdown on "phony" passports, you know.......I think Pujols is actually closer to 35, then he is 25....he just won't "risk" leaving the stats. But...until the age is "verified" (come on....he ain't 25) people will take it at his word. But IMO, he is the greatest hitter to ever lied about his age. :twisted:

    There's Mazzone, Mike Maddux and everybody else. You half correct, USSoccer, you forgot Rick Petersen and Bud Black. I would Mazzone, Maddux, Petersen and Black and then there is everybody else. But Rothschild, is like Baker, he doesn't hold his pitchers responsible.

    First: I don't care what has been said about, but CHEMISTRY is an important factor in baseball. The White Sox have chemistry, the Cubs don't. The Cardinals have chemistry, the Cubs don't. Etc, etc...Don't convince me otherwise, but chemisty is vastly UNDERRATED. Second: The White Sox is legitmately a "Lightning in a bottle" formula, hmmmm. don't that formula sound familiar. They have gotten NOTHING for Crede, Uribe, Pierznyski, Hermansen, Marte, Rowand, and look where they are at. This team rode the pitching staff, Konerko, and Dye to the WS. To me, that doesn't sound like a formula this will last very long. Kenny Williams is still an idiot. The Sox having a great yr is overshadowing that little tidbit.

    Not a chance. Mazzone and Cox have been friends for a long time. When Bobby hangs 'em up, so will Mazzone, but Leo will not leave Atlanta, period. Even this is out of Steinbrenner's reach.

    are you saying you want Burnitz back? I love Milton Bradley's game (especially Monopoly, had to do it), cause how many switch-hitting OFers can put up .300/.350+ with 20-25 homeruns, and 30-35 SB, with gold glove caliber plays? How many are there in baseball? This is one of the few players that Corey has been compare to as a ballplayer. I understand the mental risks that come with Bradley, but this is low risk/high reward type deal that the Cubs should invest in. This kid is a competitior, maybe too intense, but this kid plays the game hard. That's the kind of player we need.

    Didn't they signed Sheets to BE PART OF THEIR YOUTH MOVEMENT? I seriously doubt they sign him to a generious 4 yr deal to move him. And even if he did, I think they would Varitek over Posada any day.

    My thoughts exactly. Sounds crazy, but I think I'd pulled a Bobby Cox a la playoffs in 1985 and maybe intentionally walked Pujols to keep that from happening. I'm shocked they pitched to him. I wouldn't let their best player beat me if I had a chance to clinch. I would have taken my chance with the next batter. I knew if Edmonds was going to get on base, that Pujols was somehow going to either tie up or hit the home run. And that being said, I would had pretty much give him a IBB and take my chances on a iffy Sanders. (his back injury that is, since I'm not sold that he's back to 100%) Pujols is the person you do not want to mess with during clutch situations. Albert's the guy you don't want to mess with in any situation. Until he comes "off the juice." :-$

    First: From my experiences, I actually enjoy chatting with Astros fans, then Cardinals fans. The Astros fans are very much like the Cubs fans, in that they believe their team is curse, and they ALWAYS think the negative instead of the position. Whereas the Cards fans have the unbearable arrogance, this makes me :evil: . If I had my choice, I'd root for the Stros, as, IMO, they have classier fans, then the Cards. Second: Pujols is the most talented hitter on the Cards, but we know who is the player they want up at the plate......David Eckstein. Say what you want, but David is one heckuva "old school player" and you KNEW he was going to start something. (Call it a Cub gut-feeling). Everybody is kissing Pujols' bottom, but the real hero was David Eckstein, plain and simple. Third: So the Cubs aren't the only team to be burned by the Eckstein." Hmmmm...good to know.

    yes He's finally living his childhood dreams that were forged as a young, penniless baseball fan on the streets of New York. It's totally disgusting. I wonder if Ozzie is going to keep his word about "retiring" if the Sox do when the Series?

    I'd like to believe that with every win in the playoffs, Dusty and Jim's seat is getting abit hotter. Imagine if the Sox win the series? Dusty WOULD HAVE LITTLE room for error to begin the season.

    It didn't last yr, when the Cards may the playoffs, after making winning the division an "EASY" chore. And I AGREE with Soul, I'm rooting for the Sox, not because they are from Chicago,, but because EVERY WIN, pulls the noose tighter and tighter, every win, makes Dusty Baker (and to a certain degree Hendry) seat a little bit hotter. If the Sox won the World Series, could you imagine the ridicule Baker and Hendry would face heading into the postseason. There would be literally a RIOT. All I know is...the Cubs organization needs a kick in the butt, even if it's from the "Lightning in the bottle" White Sox.

    That's the thing, there is one team every yr (or every couple of yrs) that surprise people about who they sign. A couple of yrs back, Colorado signed BOTH Hampton and Neagle and was on the verge of signing Dreifort (granted THAT didn't work out, but it surprise alot of people). More recent the O's signing Miggy Tejada---best SS in the game bar none-unless Arod moves back to SS--Javy Lopez, and Raffy Palmeiro, so it can be done, signing a couple of the season's best FA. The only problem, is neither the Rockies, or the Orioles did their homework. Signing Miggy was a no-brainer. Palmeiro was broken down before the steroids, And Lopez was overrated to begin,. Rockies should never sign finesse pitchers to big market contracts. So, do I think the Cubs could land Lofton/Giles/Furcal/Howry/Seanez/Sweeney, yes, but if I am the Cubs, I would do the homework about each player, before making the offer, tho. For example, would Furcal be tempted to start drinking again, or will arm problems resurface with Howry, or would Sweeney revert to pre-Colorado crappiness.

    Come on guys, this is a direct slap at Dusty. How can you NOT like a guy, who complains openly that fans are being overcritical? Or can you not like a guy, who runs his team like a Chuckie-Cheese? How can you not like a guy who has the player's respect, yet can't lead them anywhere. Dudes, the "Dustman" is popular with the players, and that matters, don't it? Ok, enough sarcasm. I would love to get Sciossa of the Angels, and to a certain degree, Tom Kelly of the Twins, but seeing as neither are available, I would try and sign the trained money that works in fairs. Heck, let's see if Marcel the monkey (Friends, famous monkey) is available. I'm sure he would work for peanuts. Hehehe.

    I don't. 1: Torre still has atleast 2 yrs left on his contract, and Girardi is gonna be a candidate for just about every opening until he gets the opprtunity to manage. 2: Lou Piniella is a Steinbrenner favorite, always. And seeing as Steinbrenner's healthy isn't nearly as strong today, as opposed to say even 5 yrs ago, and the fact that Steinbrenner is NOT a patience man. My guess is....if Torre is fired, seeing as Girardi is a loyal man, he wouldn't take the job in NY. The only way he would is if Torre recommended Girardi to Steinbrenner. I honestly think he is waiting for the Cubs job to open up, before he makes his choice as manager.....UNLESS TB or Florida gives him an offer he can't sit on. And tot he person who don't think so....Girardi is a CUB, through and through. Girardi best yrs weren't ONLY in New York. He had a couple of decent yrs there, but he also had a couple of decent yrs in Chicago..http://www.baseball-reference.com/g/girarjo01.shtml He's a cubbie, through and through. NO DOUBT about it.

    Knowing Dusty it would be Matt Williams. Nah, dude, it had to be Charlie Hayes. I mean he did SAVE the Yankees with that catch to end the 1996 World Series. He could bring that magic to the Cubs.

    If that's the case, then we need to trade him to the ChiSox pronto for their minor league version of Carlos Lee. First: I meant that Greenberg could provide the spark that Pods did for the Sox. Second: the Cubs already have their "Carlos Lee" in Matt Murton.

    My question is: Where the heck is Bud Selig, or at worst his second hand man? Unless someone can prove either were at the game, this is a bullpoppy call. But then, this is the SAME president who allow a tie in the AS Game. If I was Arturo (owner) and Stoneman, I would demand to see Selig immediately to discuss a "mulligan" on the decision. I mean, the UMP clearly call him out, and the BALL didn't hit the ground. The loser was out, plain and simple. I don't want excuses, I want a game played fair. It's bad enough they didn't overturn the Hrabek "wrestling manuever" on Ron Gant in the 91 series. It's even worse not overturning the "Meier" incident. But this DECISION needs to be overturned for the sake of baseball purity.
