  1. Well, thePenguin isn't off-base with Hill's fastball as JJ Cooper of BA.com said about Rich Hill: So I do believe that thePenguin is OFF with his "scouting" of Rich Hill, maybe because he has delusions of trying to get the megaoverrated Austin Kearns. BUT, Rich Hill, IMO, does need a third pitch if he wants to become a starter, otherwise his stuff maybe that of a lefty setup.
  2. They NEVER said you have to be "purty" to play the game of baseball, the RIGHT way.
  3. On Farnsworth: He HAD to be dealt. If for not other reason, was his ACT was getting OLD, very quickly. And the fact that Scott Moore is having an OUTSTANING season. And Novoa is still young enough that ANOTHER team may like his arm in a trade. On Patterson: I can safely say, he won't be a "Lou Brock" player after he leaves Chicago. I'm willing to bet that Corey ends up being a Jacques Jones type player.
  4. Willis I could you see your point, but Garland? http://baseballreference.com/g/garlajo01.shtml This JON GARLAND? This season is SO OUT OF WACK for Garland is not even funny. I don't miss Garland.
  5. Pagin Dr. "Snot" Dempster, you're needed in the emergency room, er...mound. Dr. Dempster you're needed in the emergency room. The Cubs WILL NOT lose this game.
  6. I think it's blatantly obvious that this was forced on him from above. God, or Jim Hendry?
  7. Hey, if they want Matt Murton, all they have to do is give up Billy Butler, that's all.
  8. Dubois on being sent down: Corey on being sent down: I believe that those two quotes shows you the difference in maturity level between Dubois and Patterson. Dubois is looking at it half-full, and WANTS to improve his game to get back to Chicago, whereas Corey Patterson is looking at it half-empty, and he prolly feels he doesn't "deserve" to be sent to AAA. I honestly believe Corey is in AAA for quite awhile, to be honest, or he won't be with the organization after the trade deadline. His attitude, right now, STINKS to high heavens.
  9. Right now, I rather have a ROOT CANAL then watch the Cubs. I rather do my taxes, Listen to Kato Kaelin speak politics, Filmed John Goodman doing a lapdance, (is that normal?) Watch Glitter till my eyes bleed, And listen to a duet of Snow/Vanilla Ice Then watching the Cubs, right now. I love them, but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
  10. Here's a philospohical question for everyone. Was Dusty starting Macias over Hairston ?...... or was Dusty starting Patterson over Hairston ???? Right now....is Macias and Patterson....INTERCHANGEABLE?
  11. I still go to that board, but everyday another loser like chumps97 (or JasonHart, cubsstink, or whoever the heck he is going by today) is driving me away from that board, and I am finding myself more and more on this board, lately. Sometimes over at cubs.com, but mainly here, when I am on.
  12. I'm a little slow so forgive me, but I just realize that I saw Wednesday's "proposed" lineup, and it had Macias in OVER Hairston. I'm thinking is this....was starting Macias of Hairston a punishment towards Jerry and his "displeasure" over the lack of playing time, he mentioned through the media? I mean, other then that, I can't see a LEGIT reason to ever start Macias over Hairston, unless your trying to tank. So again, was this a punishment towards Jerry for running off the mouth about playing time?
  13. What the Cubs need to do is quietly send Baker over to the Cards.  With Jose Macias, and Nefti Perez.
  14. Personally, I don't believe Cubs/Nats are a right trading partners for Corey. WHY? Because 1: Washington would first try to sell the Cubs on somebody like Marlon Byrd. Anybody who knows Byrd knows that he is then-Phillies version of Corey Patterson. Why even go into that. Or they would try and use Brendan Harris as bait, and the irony would be duely appreciated. 2: The Cubs would try and ask for Ryan Church, which they would politely decline, for obvious reason. So if I am the Cubs, and the Nats are wanting Patterson, I would ask for Tyrell Godwin. Granted he isn't as toolsy as Patterson, but maybe as fast (even tho, the SB/CS is horrible) but he does have a 43-38(k:bb), which means he knows how to take a walk. Now Godwin is the same age as CPatt, but seeing as Godwin is more of a leadoff hitter then CPatt, he may be a better fit then CPatt. But again, that's me.
  15. I'm not trying to hate on the Cards, but I seriously don't see them acquiring an EVERYDAY OFer before the deadline, mainly because you still have Walker. Walker can still be productive in a PLATOON situation. So acquiring somebody like a Wells, who is a starter, just to platoon him, MAY not sit well with that person. I fully believe the Cards will end up with an Eric Byrnes/Matt Lawton type player. Disappointing if I was a Cards fan (but the Cards are not getting a BIG time OFer this deadline, cause I don't see any available). And would it really be dissapointing if you Walker/Lawton/Sanders platooning LF/RF?
  16. Abou 10 games, or so. I think the Cubs should FORGET about trying to acquire anybody at the deadline, especially if they lose the series in Atl and Florida, which I should suspsect will happen. This team ain't making the playoffs, heck the Cubs goal in the 2nd half, is to make it look like they give a darn.
  17. Their motivation would be to get young pitching. I don't mean necesarily those three players. I was using them as examples of the kind of impact players that Walt might get. Those just happen to be the three players I would most like to see in a Cardinals uniform. If you were talking Kaz Matsui, then I would tend to agree. But seeing as you are talking about Hedeki Matsui, then I would disagree. The Yanks ARE NOT known to have either patience for young player (with exceptions), nor is Steinbrenner going to sign off on a "white flag" type deal. And any move that requires trading Hedeki Matsui, would be consider "white flag." And if Steinbrenner were interested in trading Matsui, the Cards would have to give up both Wainwright, and Reyes, something I know the Cards won't do. On Mench: a productive, CHEAP, 27 yr old OF, will not be cheap, thus, he would prolly would cost the Cards; Wainwright and Hawksworth. I personally believe the Cards may target a platoon player to go with Walker---who has officially broken down. And then look at OF options after the season. Or the could take a look at Rick Ankiel for RF, if they want to be cheap. :-#
  18. If the Cubs can't move him, they need to change his role on the team. I personally, would---until further notice---take Corey out of the starting lineup, and make Hairston the FULL-TIME starter. I would then make Corey the 4th OF/defensive replacement, until he can show he should be trusted to start again. He is a LIABILITY out there. He hasn't EARN the right to continue to work through his slump, which is now going on 5 yrs. When Matt Clement struggled last yr, Baker had NO problem from pulling him from the rotation, and inserting Glendon Rusch. So why is he hestitating pulling CPatt for Hairston?
  19. Eric Byrnes Bobby Kielty Jeff Conine Preston Wilson Jacque Jones Shawn Green Jody Gerut Laynce Nix Jason Michaels Matt Lawton David Dellucci Juan Encarnacion But on that list, I bet these are the ONLY legit OFers they could land. Whether teams are not ready to sell (TB, Oak, NYY), or propsects to move for an OFer (Kearns,Dunn,Huff), or whatever the case is. Personally, it wouldn't surprise me if they ended up with Jody Gerut or Matt Lawton.
  20. Gut feeling time, but the Cubs are going to win it here.
  21. he will wait until the deadline like always. However, I don't think we are good enough to try that ths year. We might have to be sellers this year I'm all for that. I don't think Cubs should look into trying to make moves for a mediocre run at the playoffs. This team isn't good enough, nor should the Cubs try and "put a bandaid over a broken bone," and try to sell a loser team as a "playoff" team.
  22. Now the REAL question is, would it be too late?
  23. With the way the A's have been playing---8 in a row, and 12- of 13---I SERIOUSLY doubt Kotsay is going to be available. IF he is, Beane is undoubtably going to shoot for the moon (Pie AND say one or two of the following Gallagher/Hill/Harvey/Dopirak) and demand that kind of pacakge. So, right now, I think you should look in other directions for a leadoff hitter. And Lawton, I think Littlefield, would try and make up for the ARam debacle, and ASK for more then he is worth from the Cubs.
  24. The question is.....what would you do if the Cubs won the world series? Hmmm...that's a toughie. BUT, I would give up the secrets that has haunted mankind over the past 100yrs. You know "who shot Prez Kennedy?" Where is Jimmy Hoffa? What is ESPN's fascination with the Yankees/Red Sox? Is Hillary Clinton a man or woman?  Just kidding. For real: in monotone voice I would get down, get durty, get naked and shake my manly boobs around like I don't care, cause I would be WAY past drunk. The level that would be approaching the White Sox fan level of rowdiness. And after I am release from jail for disorderly conduct, and being "wrongfully naked", I would go home and repeat step #1. Then I would "Fly like an eagle" to Wrigley and scream at the Cubs management "WHAT THE WORLD TOOK YOU SO LONG?" And then I would go over to the White Sox fan, and just TAUNT the ever crap out of him/her. That is what I would do. \:D/
  25. NOW imagine if he had SOMEBODY on in front of him.
