Seasons over .500: Johnson 12 (86%) Seasons over .600 Johnson 3 (21%) - very impressive. Seasons with 100+ win teams Johnson 2 (14%) World Series wins Johnson 1 First Place Finishes Johnson 4 (29%) Johnson also finished under 3rd or lower twice (14%). Those are also the only seasons he managed an under 500 team. Johnson wins. He has the ability to relate to players and talk the game in a language they understand, but he isn't opposed to using stats and computer print-outs, yet he isn't quite viewed as a "sabermetric" guy. Johnson would be an excellent choice as manager and probably better than most choices out there. It's a shame he's no longer available. Well, look at Buck Showalter. He put the championship foundation into place at both NY and Ari, does that mean you want his micro managing, overbearing, style on the Cubs? Of course not. I just feel DJ is also not a good fit for Chicago. I'd prefer Dierker or Valentine, anyways.

The bottom line is all of this is Hendry is not going to trade Jones, regardless of how he plays. Agreed. People need to stop thinking about how to trade Jacques Jones for the time being. JJ will be a Cub for at least 2 FULL years. How do you know some dumb desperate GM won't make a great offer in hopes of contending this year and saving his job? First: Steve Phillips is in the ESPN studio, so there goes your theory of "desparate GM trying to save his job." Second: Because JJ in his first yr of the contract, and not to many teams are going to look to acquire a player at the begining of his contract. Besides, JJ is a Hendry target, and he wouldn't trade him, just yet. His value is too high, in Hendry's mind. Third: If a desparate Gm is looking at JJ as a player who could save his job, then perhaps, said GM should be updatinghis resume, cause he will be fired, anyways. There are some teams where money is not going to be an object and the contract will not be a huge hurdle, especially if the Cubs send some cash. The Yanks, Red Sox, etc.... if they need a left handed bat headed down the stretch they will do what it takes to win no matter what. Most of the "big money teams" already have their OF set. So, the Cubs would have to eat some of the contrct to move Jacque to another team. To which, I just don't see JJ being moved this season.

Hill and Guzman, I agree. But his sample size isn't worth really comparing Marmol to Marshall. Marmol as of right now is a reliever, and Marshall is a starter. With that said....if Marmol is a starter in future, I would like to see the Cubs bring him along like the Astros did with Oswalt, and keep him in the bullpen, till he if/is when he ready to start. If not...Marmol is looking like a dominate closer in training.

Everything I've heard has him in the 10-20 range of the first round. If he drops into the 2nd round, Mark Bradley got about $2 million in guarantees. If he gets taken in the first 20 picks of the NFL draft, I will piss my pants. He's far and away the No. 1 WR in the draft right now, so I'd have to think he'll be a top-20 pick. He's not really fast, but could be a very good possession receiver a la Keyshawn in the League. How does Sammy chose to play WR, and pitcher in the two sports? Most pitchers who had played football, ended being the QB. Him choosing WR over QB, would be an interesting story. There is no way that he can or will play NFL and MLB at the same time. It's simply impossible for a pitcher. And no, I haven't heard anything about his ultimate choice either, but my gut feeling is he sticks with football. We'll see though. It'd be exciting to have my favorite college baseball player with the Cubs. Most of the people switching from baseball into football as a QB weren't pitchers. Quincy Carter, Matt Mauck, and Drew Henson were all 3B. Chad Hutchinson is the only P that converted into a QB that I can think of off the top of my head. Farnsy and Sisco never played pro or even college football for that matter...they just happened to have the build to do so. Both Sisco (who was RECRUITED by the Pac-10 as a DE) and Farnsworth both did play football in high school. ----- YearofDaCubs; Quincy wasn't the only one drafted by the Cubs. Matt Mauck, LSU QB on the NT team, was drafted by the Cubs in 1997. And even Antwaan Randel El was another drafted by the Cubs. Point remains, the Cubs have an unnatural love for athletes, instead of players.

I think Sammy days as a ND baseball player are over. The quote seems to me that Sammy/ his advisor and the Cubs might be closer to a deal than what most people think. And it does suggest, Sammy (I can't spell his last name) will give it a go for both sports. But, my fear, is that he is one injury away from having to choose one or the other. And IF he signs, does anybody think they will try and room Johnson and Sammy together, and see if they can't push each to becoming better pitchers?

That was the first thing I noticed. Only 3 more walks in 2005 in almost twice the at bats. Maybe Colvin might become a better PRO, then he was a college player. I think, Colvin could very well be a very good---not a superstar---player for the Cubs inside of 2 1/2 yrs. I think he is going to progress that fast.

I have to assume the odds are very high. They wouldn't have wasted their 2nd pick on the guy if they didn't plan on signing him. I just don't know why you'd sign a pitcher and then let him go play football. Huge risk. The only way this makes sense is if they believe he will quit football. My guess is they'd offer him 1st/2nd rd type money if he would quite football. He would say, I promise ND I would return for my senior yr, and the Cubs agreed. But after his senior yr at ND, he would have to give up football, for good. That's my guess. What's with the Cubs drafting football/baseball players? They did jump into the Cubs/Stros game last night when Z was pitching in the 8th. I must admit that I was impressed with that. Only because Kruk threatening to eat Karl and Harold, if they didn't show Z's potential no-hitter. I believe Kruk call Z for his cy-young winner this yr. He want get it, but atleast somebody acknowledge Z's ability.

I told you SLO had a good team this year. I was accepted to Cal Poly SLO out of HS without applying. I should have gone and walked-on to the baseball team. I could have been drafted by the Cubs! I don't know do you have a concept of the term "OBP?" If you do, then no you wouldn't have been drafted by the Cubs. I did have a good eye in HS. But I played CF! And I run really fast! You never know... :lol: Then, you would be have a perfect fit for Oakland. You know the Cubs don't need "basecloggers", and you sir would have been a "baseclogger."
