  1. Thanks, Ron. Is something wrong with Randy Wells? I have him slated for tomorrow.
  2. Sounds like BA is really down on him compared to the rest.
  3. Awesome. How crazy would Lee get if Corey screwed up?
  4. To summarize BA: Marrero came into this season as the top HS hitting prospect and didn't live up to the expectations. He has average to plus tools, and his best tool is power (which rates as a 70 on the 20-to-80). He has "adequate plate discipline and good pitch recognition." Has struggled to make consistant hard contact but he remains high on draft boards due to projection and power. Might have to move to first base or left field. It doesn't sound like he's as good as Rowell. BA seems to like him a lot less than MiLB. So yeah, uhh, he sounds like someone the Cubs would draft. I say go after a pitcher since that's the obvious strength of this draft and a projected top-10 pitcher should fall to the Cubs.
  5. Next Tuesday and Wednesday. The draft pool added three more pitchers: Luke Hochevar (formerly Dodgers' property) is officially back in the draft, as are two of the top draft-and-follows: Pedro Beato (Mets) and Bryan Morris (Devil Rays). The first two are sure-fire first rounders and Morris has been projected to go late in the first round.
  6. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Ryan O'Malley (3-2, 3.05 ERA, 38.1 IP, 31/3) @ RHP Dennis Sarfate (2-2, 3.26 ERA) West Tenn (game 1): LHP Chris Shaver (2-3, 2.96 ERA, 45.2 IP, 44/17) @ RHP Travis Phelps (0-2, 2.81 ERA) West Tenn (game 2): LHP Paul Schappert (3-0, 3.77 ERA, 28.2 IP, 11/14) @ TBD Daytona: RHP Sean Gallagher (4-0, 2.43 ERA, 59.1 IP, 62/14) @ LHP Manny Parra (0-1, 5.63 ERA) Peoria: LHP Donnie Veal (4-2, 3.02 ERA, 53.2 IP, 65/34) vs. RHP Vince Mazzaro (4-4, 4.64 ERA)
  7. I need to get out to Malibu on Friday. GO BRUINS! (And go Lady Bruins in softball! Bring home #100!)
  8. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Rich Hill (1-1, 2.93 ERA, 30.2 IP, 40/8) @ RHP Ben Hendrickson (2-0, 2.08 ERA) West Tenn: LHP Chris Shaver (2-3, 2.96 ERA, 45.2 IP, 44/17) @ RHP Travis Phelps (0-2, 2.81 ERA) Daytona: RHP Justin Berg (2-4, 4.24 ERA, 51 IP, 45/26) @ RHP Josh Wahpepah (3-1, 2.27 ERA) Peoria: RHP Mitch Atkins (3-0, 2.01 ERA, 49.1 IP, 49/17) vs. RHP Jared Lansford (4-1, 0.90 ERA)
  9. Here's a box. Prior's line: 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 K, 0 BB
  10. He really hasn't done anything to justify his spot in the pen. Then again, we have a boatload of players who are not justified to be on this team. You mean, besides being a decent reliever(with peripherals that suggest improvement) in 75 innings at the major league level last year and completely dominating AAA this year? He's had 4 outings this year for crying out loud, and only 2 of them were bad. The latter part of your statement is hardly a ringing endorsement. The point is that his two demotions were kneejerk reactions to poor outings. Every reliever has poor outings, and this year we've been sending the message that one bad performance gets your bags sent to Des Moines. Wuertz was a good middle reliever last year, and his strikeout rates and lack of contact made on him in general made him a good candidate to be even better this year. He's been great at Iowa, we should just let him pitch out of the pen instead of rotating him through with the likes of Novoa and Aardsma. I agree. What kills me is that Dusty is known to give guys every opportunity to pitch their way out of ruts like Wuertz was in during ST and his mere pittance of 4 appearances he's gotten this year. For some reason, he has not extended the same opportunity to Wuertz. Consider the fact that we've had several blowout games where he could have gotten some work and could have gotten his confidence back and he never got the opportunity, it just boggles the mind. He is having a similar year as Ohman, but for some reason, Ohman's getting the chance to work through it but Wuertz isn't. Must be that left-arm mystique... You answered your own question.
  11. Yes. I'm thinking David Cash may have been the other, but I'm not sure about that.Cash definitely came from SF -- I believe as part of the deal for Mueller, but I'm not sure about that part. Technically, the Cubs traded Bill Mueller for Jeff Verplancke. A year later, they traded Verplancke (as a PTBNL) back to the Giants (with Gerard McCall) for Dave Cash. Besides Rohlicek, the Cubs got Mike Nannini and Travis Anderson for Gordon. As you referred to, Nannini went to the Marlins in the Derrek Lee trade.
  12. I changed the thread title after wolf posted his link, which said Carpenter was headed to the DL on Tuesday.
  13. Ditto. I'll be concerned a few starts after he's returned to the big leagues.
  14. :(
  15. Yeah, he's shown that he shouldn't have been demoted.
  16. Possibly. The Cards seem hesitant to put him on the DL, though. Ponson was also just activated.
  17. That's 24 creative losses in 32 days. Fixed. Hey now, not all of them were creative. Some were just boring old blowouts.
  18. I'll take the Dodgers, and if I need a second team, the Angels.
  19. I just keep watching the Aramis error. It's too hysterical.
  20. I gotta say I'm impressed with how many folks are in here today.
  21. THIS MAN CAN SEE INTO THE FUTURE! LaRoche walking takes some hard work.
