  1. The final is 15-3. Daytona got 23 hits. The announcers were talking about getting Craig some time at C since it was a blowout, but that did not happen. :|
  2. In regards to 2003/2004 and 2005, if Clines is to blame for screwing Patterson up in 2005, then is the reason for his success in 2003 and to a lesser extent 2004 attributed to his work with Gary Matthews? I believe he has primarily worked with Clines since Dusty arrived. Of course, it was also certainly tied to Hendry and his love for the Pierre prototype. Well, then it seems like he did a pretty damn good job coaching him in 2003 and 2004 because he made a really huge jump in productivity. And yet, they decided to try to convert him into a slap hitter in 2005.
  3. Daytona now leads it 15-2 in the 7th. Holliman's night is over. His line: 6 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 8/2
  4. McHenDust. Nice, I like it.
  5. 13-2 after 5. Holliman gave up a run in the 5th like this: 2-out walk and then a 2-base error on Spearman that allows a run to score (Spearman dropped a flyball that at the wall). Holliman: 5 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 7/2
  6. Holliman gives up a leadoff triple, gets a K looking, gives up a grounder/E6 on Simokaitis which allows the run to score and then gets 2 more Ks. Through 3, Daytona leads it 13-1. Holliman: 3 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 5/0
  7. Sorry, I'm having some technical difficulties and just got back to listening to the game. Daytona is up 12-0 and Jake Fox is batting for the third time today...in the second inning. Fox with an RBI single, runners at the corners. Fox is now 2 for 2 with a single, double and a BB. 13-0, Daytona. Craig HBP to load up the bases. Another pitching change. Brandenburg (sp?): 1.1 IP, 6 ER (bases loaded are his responsibility)... Harvey Ks to end the inning (after almost hitting a GS earlier in the AB, but it went foul). Daytona leads it 13-0 after 2.
  8. wow seconded I think that the biggest surprise for Randy is that he walked someone.
  9. Holliman with another 1-2-3 inning (after having to long-toss during the 30-minute bottom of the first inning to keep warm). Holliman: 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2/0, 21 pitches Fox leads off the bottom of the 2nd with a LONG double to LCF (just missed a HR). He's 1/1, double, BB. Craig singles, runners at the corners. 10 hits for the D-Cubs now. Harvey hits a hard single to second base (coulda been an error), Fox scores. 8-0, Daytona.
  10. I think his success this year says a lot about his willingness to learn. I only wish that Corey really was stubborn last year and could have blocked out everything Clines and company were telling him about changing his swing instead of focusing on strike zone recognition. That's great, but what are the reasons he was so horrible in about his first 800 ABs/830 PA's, had a pretty good half season when Dusty and his crew first arrived, slipped back to around average in 2004 then all of the sudden reverted back to his rookie form? There is a lot more to his career than just last year. He was rushed/had major flaws early in his career (still has flaws, of course). Had a great 2003 before the injury. Came back early from the injury in 2004 and had a good season until he tired in September (he had been working out for 9 consecutive months between recovering from the injury and the season).
  11. Holliman with a 1-2-3 top of the first on 10 pitches (with one K). Daytona's offense has exploded in the bottom of the first: Fuld doubles down the RF line. Culpepper lines a single, Fuld to third. Weston singles, Fuld scores, Culpepper to second. 1-0, Daytona. Fox walks, bases are loaded. Craig lines a singles, Culpepper scores, bases remain loaded. 2-0, Daytona. Harvey singles, West scores, bases remain loaded. 3-0, Daytona. Speaman sac flies, Fox scores. Runners at first second, 4-0, Daytona, 1 out. Spears singles to load the bases. Simokaitis singles, Craig and Harvey score. 6-0, Daytona, 1 out. Brower's night is over. His line is 0.1 IP, 7 ER, 7 H, 1 BB. Fuld singles, Spears scores, Simokaitis to second. 7-0, Daytona, 1 out (run charged to Brower). Culpepper flies out to the wall in LF. 7-0, Daytona, 2 outs. Now a balk advances Simokaitis and Fuld. Weston lines out to first base, robbed of an XBH. After 1, Daytona leads it 7-0.
  12. I blame Patterson. CPatt was making stupid swings at some really bad pitches, and looked worse than most rookies. Doesn't matter if you're batting 1st or 7th. I can't blame the coaching staff for his stubborn attitude. If Pie is trying to learn patience at the plate at age 21 in Iowa, what does that say about Corey's willingness to learn? That stubbornness has sure shown this season with what Corey has done with Lee Elia. Oh wait... EDIT: Jon, I let you get that one first since it's your birthday.
  13. Marmol and Marshall are not unknowns (just look up some of mine and other folks' posts the past two years). Guzman was not ready the first time he was promoted, he was still rusty and recovering from not pitching much for 2.5 years. That wasn't overcoaching, that was promoting a pitcher who hadn't shown he was ready. Hill certainly has struggled, especially with his control in the big leagues. I'm not sure if that has to do with coaching. None of them should be untouchable.
  14. Not true of those folks who actually followed the minors. Mind you, outside of Guzman (and maybe Hill), most of the guys on your list have been rated below Marshall and Marmol in the last year and a half. I think only Hill, Guzman and Marmol have received any fanfare too.
  15. No problem. And don't worry, I'm not gonna steal your job. :^o
  16. I really don't see the Milton-Ethan comparison, Uber.

  18. So you don't want to fleece, say, the Diamondbacks in a trade? Just the Sox and the Cards? You come off as a Sox-hater first, Cubs fan second.
  19. A lot of Twins fans take exception to the fact that they took Mauer as a way of saving money or gauranteeing signability. I got lambaster by a barage of Twins fans on Twins.com(this was before I realized there were good baseball websites outside of the MLB ones) for bringing that up. They argued that they wanted Mauer from the get go and that Twins management would have been chastised for passing on Mauer, local kid. I thought I would throw this in here because it came quickly to mind when I read your post. One Twin fan in particular has made a point to yap at me constantly about how Prior refused to pitch for the Twins...despite having no evidence whatsoever to back it up beyond hearsay. He's the only Twin fan I know who's said this, despite knowing a number of guys who have never heard anything about it. He's been quite thrilled about Prior's injury problems. He's also a Jock Jones fan. I'll just leave it at that. I think I know who you're talking about.
  20. Don't forget Wells at AA. Iowa leads it 2-1 going to the 7th - Hill has given up 1 in 6 with 9 Ks to 2 BBs. This will be a 7 inning game.
  21. I'd be a week off if that happened - I thought Gallagher would be like Marmol and Marshall last year and get promoted after the FSL All-Star game. Hill with his 4th K through 2.1 innings, Iowa leads it 2-0. The Iowa broadcast crew are talking about the country of Bhutan. Don't ask me why.
  22. Please don't. Outshined would prefer if you rub it in. :P
