  1. Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Randy Wells (WT: 4-2, 1.59 ERA, 62.1 IP, 54/13, 0.93 WHIP) vs. RHP Mike MacDougal (0-1, 9.00 ERA) West Tenn: RHP Bobby Brownlie (2-4, 3.93 ERA, 34.1 IP, 25/12, 1.60 WHIP) vs. RHP Garrett Mock (2-7, 4.92 ERA) Daytona: LHP Carlos Perez (0-4, 5.24 ERA, 46.1 IP, 33/31, 1.96 WHIP) vs. RHP Blake Johnson (4-3, 3.84 ERA) Peoria: RHP Mitch Atkins (6-1, 2.24 ERA, 72.1 IP, 68/25, 1.08 WHIP) vs. RHP Cory Meacham (4-2, 2.74 ERA) Boise: LHP Mark Pawelek (0-1, 6.00 ERA, 3 IP, 2/2, 1 HBP, 1.67 WHIP) Mesa: ?? Randy Wells AAA debut. Derrek Lee will be at Iowa for a weekend rehab. All of West Tenn's starters have a sub-4 ERA.
  2. The Hawks don't get swept and win their first game of the season, 7-3, thanks to a huge game from my boy, DJ Lewis. Jeff Samardzija has been cleared to pitch 2 innings on Tuesday: Quakers, if you go, please tell us how he looks! EDIT: Oneri indicates it will be a start:
  3. Yeah, I had to give up on the game. It was pretty brutal. :(
  4. WT up 5-1 in the middle of the 5th; Gallagher is struggling with his control. Gallagher: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4/6. Daytona still tied at 1 after 7. Peoria is up 5-0 in the middle of the 6th. Yepez: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1/3
  5. I sort of agree with WilliSC48. Murton supposedly got along well with Von. How disappointing. :(
  6. Yeah I am going to ask Goldstein about that for Veal, and especially for Sean Doolittle in his next chat. Is that David Price in your avatar?
  7. I don't know if it's just me but the DJaxx's broadcast is coming extremely choppy right now with some other weird technical issues. :| EDIT: The Jaxx lead it 5-0 now.
  8. WT up 1-0 in the 3rd. Gallagher: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3/3 Daytona tied at 1 going to the 7th. Peoria up 5-0 after 3. Yepez: 3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1/0
  9. i sure hope not!!!!! send him straight to O'Brien Field. I think because Colvin is raw for a college hitter, he might start out in Boise. I definitely think he'll end up in Peoria this season - at the very least so he can get some playoff experience.
  10. I'm 99% sure that was on the road.
  11. 93 the highest I saw all season.... The Daytona announcer said he put something extra on that particular pitch, so I'm guessing he was consistently in the lower 90s. Veal's night is done, he doesn't make it out of the 6th. He gave up 2 walks, an unearned run and had a costly error on a pickoff in the 6th. Veal's final line is: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3/3, as Weber came in and got the job done.
  12. Interesting read, thanks. I'm shocked Veal would be top-3 worthy considering his control problems and the number of flyouts he has surrendered.
  13. Peoria puts up a 5-spot in the first inning. They lead it 5-0 after 2. Yepez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0/1 West Tenn leads it 1-0 in the second inning (thanks to a Chris Walker triple and an EPatt RBI single). Gallagher: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1/2
  14. Donald Veal's debut going well so far: 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2/1. Heck, he has more grounds outs than fly outs (7 to 5)! Daytona leads it 1-0, thanks in part to a catching error by Vero Beach's pitcher. I would like to once again point out that VB's pitcher's name is Bastardo. :mamoru:
  15. I've always wondered why things like that don't happen a lot more often in sports. The Cubs could have got Soriano for Sosa and resigned him if they did that. I'd just throw in an extra 2 or 3 mil to the contract to get the player to do it. If he liked playing for your team and wanted to win, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. He might even get a ring out of it with his temporary team. I think an NBA team attemped something like this, the raptors come to mind. I beleive the league forfeited their draft picks and fined them as a penelty for it. Does this ring a bell for anyone else? Either way I bet its a no/no in baseball too. I think you're thinking of the Joe Smith situation with the Timberwolves.
  16. Correct.
  17. I know! I don't get it? Once he gets to the majors he can't pitch a strike to save his life. His fastball is average at best as is his change. How's he doing it in AAA? Does he look different? Little known fact. Major league hitters are better than minor league hitters. When players move up a level it takes time to adjust. Most guys struggle, and many even look awful while going through that adjustment period. And most adjustment periods take longer than a handful of starts. I can see struggling meaning he's getting hard, but struggling to throw stikes is what's the strange part. In AAA he doesn't walk anyone but in the majors he walks the world. Major league hitters are more patient.
  18. LHP Mark Pawelek RHP Billy Petrick RHP Jeff Samardzija SS Sammy Baez OF DJ Lewis Eventually Tyler Colvin should end up in Boise too. Other intriguing names are LHP Jeremy Papelbon, RHP Billy Muldowney and 1B Russ Canzler.
  19. Probable Starters: Iowa: LHP Les Walrond (7-2, 3.46 ERA, 80.2 IP, 60/38, 1.48 WHIP) vs. RHP Seth Etherton (3-3, 4.70) West Tenn: RHP Sean Gallagher (1-0, 3.60 ERA, 5 IP, 5/4, 1.80 WHIP) Daytona: LHP Donald Veal (Peoria: 5-3, 2.69 ERA, 73.2 IP, 86/40, 1.14 WHIP) vs LHP Alberto Bastardo (2-3, 3.99 ERA) Peoria: LHP Jesus Yepez (2-3, 3.50 ERA, 61.2 IP, 32/35, 1.44 WHIP) vs. RHP Kyle Sadlowski (4-1, 3.99 ERA) Boise: RHP Jose Pina (2005 @ Mesa: 3-5, 4.83 ERA, 52.2 IP) vs. RHP Aaron Breit (0-0, 16.20 ERA, 1.2 IP) Mesa: ?? Veal makes his Daytona debut.
  20. Holliman's start was the longest by a Daytona pitcher this season - longer than any start by even Sean Gallagher. Boise lost 7-3 and are off to a 0-4 start. Deryck Lewis went 2/4 with 2 RBI and another walk. Jeremy Papelbon made his professional debut with 2 shutout innings of relief work.
  21. Oddly enough, Samardzija is listed on Boise's roster on the MiLB.com website. I saw Samardzija interviewed in a Hawks cap from Boise on ESPN 360 this morning. He's with the team and has been working out with them. But his contract hasn't been approved by MLB, so he can't officially be on a roster.
  22. It's gotta be for more than just Barrett suspension since the big league squad didn't call up Reyes or Soto.
