  1. The D-Rays have a brighter immediate future than the Cubs.
  2. EPatt makes the Team Photo in BA's Hot Sheet:
  3. All boxes posted! Yeah, Mobile's Drew Macias (no relation to Jose) hit a 2-run HR with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th against Bobby Brownlie (Colt Morton was at third base).
  4. It should also be mentioned that Griese is playing against 2nd team defenses in most cases. I think he's looked fine, but you have to put things in perspective. Bottom line, even if Griese does end up being the guy, the Bears lose nothing by giving Grossman a shot right now, IMO. They need to find out what he is capable of. Plus, Griese actually gets to work with a semblance of a running game. Preach it.
  5. And hopefully Dusty won't ruin your arm like another former Vanderbilt* pitcher. Guzman threw 93 pitches in 3 IP? Rusch threw 55 in 2? Sheesh. *Who transferred to USC before getting drafted by the Cubs.
  6. Jae-Kuk Ryu - not Randy Wells - is starting for Iowa. It's scoreless in the third inning right now.
  7. Just 5 days until the Vols' redemption! This is truly the best time of the year. go Bears! They'll win the Pac-10, they better beat Tennessee. Go Bruins!
  8. Thank goodness Brett Favre didn't retire. :D
  9. Signed out of the Mexican League (AAA), don't know anything else really.

  13. I think the Cubs will more willing to push Pawelek next season than they would with Atkins this season (even though they'd be similar...HS draftees in their second pro season/first in a full-season league).
  14. With today's game, he's at 102 for his career between Mesa and Boise. Here are his stats for this season(not including today's game). If you scroll to the bottom, you can see his stats from last season at Mesa and Boise. I am looking for his totals from last year, plus up to this year so far. Until this season is over, you're probably not going to find his career minor league totals tabulated to include this season. You'd have to do it yourself - are there any particular stats you're interested in seeing? This is another view of this season and last, thanks to Baseball Cube.
  15. He's also 19. You're also discounting any possibility of him putting on any extra bulk/velocity. You're also discounting the learning curve. Right now, I agree, the stats do not support a strong likelihood of him keeping up what he's doing now as he progresses. But your analysis is entirely too one-dimensional. Your coin example doesn't relate to either side of the argument whatsoever, as there's far more variables than what you'll get out of a coin-toss. Your condesencion isn't making you look any smarter either. KC mentioned Taylor's age as a positive in his post - I took it to mean the exact thing you're pointing out at the beginning of your post.

  17. Yes, I'm sure the reason Cedeno didn't throw the ball was because he was protecting himself from another error. Not the fact that Miles was 2 steps away when he was getting ready to throw it.
  18. Chris Walker ties the all-time Jaxx record for hits in a season (142). Jaxx are all tied up at 4 in the bottom of the 6th.
  19. Scott Taylor isn't left-handed.
  20. Heh. Butler sounded solid today.
  21. He came to camp out of shape. I see. Thanks Raisin. :) To be fair, he's come on strong at Boise and has worked well with the pitching coach there (David Rosario) to the adjustments he has needed to. I'm sure the Cubs wish he was at Peoria instead but he's had a solid season. Well, if its not too late, maybe its time to give him one start at the Low-A level ala Gallagher in Daytona last year. Pawelek's out-of-shapeness led to him having an ineffective June going 0-3, 5.06 with 7 Ks and 6 BBs in 10.1 innings. But since the calender turned to July, it has been a different story. In 9 starts (and 11 appearances) Mark is 3-2 with a 1.79 ERA. In 45.1 IP, he has given up just 34 hits while striking out 40 and walking 17. He's been fairly consistent over the last two months. What harm would there be in that? I doubt his out-of-shapeness led to his struggles at his season at Boise. He had a few months to get back in to shape before the season started. He was having control problems, supposedly related to his mechanics and has fixed them. There's no harm in having him promoted to Peoria. He definitely should be able to handle it. The reason it won't happen is because Boise is in first place by 3.5 games and should go to the playoffs. Let Pawelek get his playoff atmosphere at the level and team he's been with all season.
  22. .336 OBP is not pretty darn good for a leadoff hitter.
  23. Ron, you're coming in staticy still. :( --------------------- Scott Moore is starting at first base. According to Ron, Moore will be getting a lot of time during the rest of the season at first base and shortstop, not just third base.
  24. Boise wins it 14-1, scoring 8 in the 9th inning thanks in part to two Yakima errors. It's Mark Pawelek's third professional win.
  25. Tyler Colvin with a 3-run HR in the top of the 7th and Boise now leads it 6-1 in the top of the 8th. Colvin: 1 for 4, HR (6), 3 RBI, 2 Ks Canzler: 1 for 3, HR (15), BB, RBI
