    I hear there's some sort of football game going on next Saturday at the LA Coliseum. Might even be an important one.

    How would UCLA get screwed. They would win the PAC-10 and get an automatic berth, right? I'm still unclear on this. I thought I read that USC could lose and still win the PAC-10 If UCLA defeats USC, there would be a 3-way tie for first place (Oregon, USC, UCLA). Then they'd go to losses against common opponents - losing to a worse team is worse. Obviously, UCLA will be eliminated there. Obviously it's their fault for losing to a bad Arizona team. But that 1 loss has more than likely eliminated UCLA from a BCS game, which I think is a screw job.

    Pathetic might have been harsh. But they are a BCS shoe-in after beating one currently-ranked team all season and losing to a 5-6 team along the way. It seems like they'll knock out one of OSU or Oregon, both of whom are more deserving of going to a BCS game, imo. Oh, and if ND went 11-0, they would have beaten USC and there would be no doubt in most people's minds that they're deserving of playing in the national championship.

    I'll concede that this does indeed happen with a lot of guys, especially power hitters. Sometimes, you have to make certain sacrifices in order to gain the benefits of that kind of player (see: Adam Dunn, BBs, Ks, and HRs). However, in other cases, sometimes the light goes on for guys. Pie is still quite young for AA as it is, so this isn't like we're dealing with a guy who has little to no room for growth. There still is plenty of time for the Cubs to at least wait for him to develop better pitch recognition so that he can walk more often than he does. We'll see on this front. For now, I'd just like to see him get back to 100% at the plate and on the field. Plus, Pie has shown improvements in other weaknesses in his game (most recently, the increase in power).

    The opposite. Several reports(including Hendry himself I believe) said that Pie would have been up last year if not for his injury. Yeah, I heard that too. But I saw a quote within the last week that said he isn't slated to get called up during the '06 season. I wish I could recall where I read that, because it stuck out so much to me because Hendry said he would have been called up this last year had he not gotten hurt. Yeah, I read that somewhere in Transactions recently too.
