If we start patterson in RF and he flops, there will be no deadline deal. You don't broker big deals in a push for 4th place. But you do postpone Kerry Wood's surgery to get him some set up work.

The LA Daily News is reporting Reggie Bush will turn pro. Pete will be meeting with his juniors next week and USC will probably have a group press conference like Lofa Totupu, Matt Leinart and Tom Malone had last year. From what I've heard, RB Bush, RB LenDale White and OT Winston Justice are definitely gone. S Darnell Bing is also likely to turn pro, but WR Steve Smith is unsure.

UCLA beat Michigan 68-61, even though a certain NSBB poster IMed me last night while I was away to inform me that UCLA would lose. :P UCLA is now 8-1, their only loss was by 8 points to #5 Memphis.

The Mets need to actually make the playoffs before anyone can say they have anything on the Yankees. And even then, NY will be a Yankees town. The Cubs will still outdraw the White Sox, but the Sox should definitely make Chicago less of a Cubs town after the World Series. Now, if you want to actually see an example of a big name team start losing out in a two-market region, look at LA. The Dodgers are starting to play second fiddle to the Angels here, especially when you consider attendance and recent success.

In order for that study to be of use, seems to me you'd have to figure out a way to account for the times a strong arm kept an outfielder from having to make a throw. On a shallow sac fly, I suspect a runner on third is a lot more likely to run on Manny than Ichiro. You're absolutely right... however, you could account for that by simply changing the number of throws to number of opportunities. Runner on first, see how many times a ball was hit to right vs. the number of times it was hit to left. I might be way off base, but I'm willling to bet that my theory is pretty accurate. That assumes all hits to the OF are the same. A harder-hit-than-normal single isn't as likely to advance a runner as a weaker one. And the odds are higher that a blooper with less than 2 outs will keep things station to station, regardless of where in the OF it was hit. -
